Lake Forest is Royal Ascot-bound after pleasing weekend return
Lake Forest has the Queen Anne in his sights after limbering up for the season with a fourth-placed run at ParisLongchamp on Sunday.
The William Haggas-trained four-year-old won the Gimcrack as a juvenile and was second in both the Commonwealth Cup and the Hackwood Stakes last term.
He ended the year with a trip to Rosehill for the Golden Eagle, where he enjoyed a huge payday when prevailing by half a length to take home the £2.8million prize.
It had been the intention he would start his year in Hong Kong for the Champions Mile at Sha Tin, but a minor setback put paid to that plan and instead his first run of the year was the Prix du Palais-Royal in France at the weekend.
Ridden by Cieren Fallon in the seven-furlong Group Three affair, the son of No Nay Never made eyecatching late progress from the rear on what was his first start for 204 days.
Royal Ascot now beckons, where the one-mile Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of the meeting awaits him.
'It was a very good race and I think the winner (Topgear) goes for the (Queen Elizabeth II) Jubilee at Royal Ascot,' said Sean Graham, racing manager to Tony Bloom, who owns the colt together with Ian McAleavy.
'We were always worried going out there that there wouldn't be a strong pace in the race and that proved to be the case.
'It was also his first run back after having a slight setback before he was due to run in Hong Kong.
'He was a bit rusty and he will definitely improve for the run, the plan is to go to the Queen Anne now.'

Royal Dress booked in for Epsom return
The five-year old ran into the impressive Andrew Balding-trained See The Fire in the Middleton Stakes but Royal Dress only lost second in the dying strides. She will now head back to the Surrey Downs for another crack at a race she was only beaten three-quarters of a length into third in last year. Tate said: 'It was her first run back and it's the first time she's tried the mile and a quarter. She tried to beat the Balding filly who seemed to be on exceptional form that day and probably suffered a little bit because of that in not hanging onto second place. But third was still a decent comeback run. 'I would think we'll go to Epsom on Saturday for that Group Three, the Princess Elizabeth. She was a very unlucky third in it last year.' Majestic Warrior is likely to head for the Knavesmire and the Ebor after returning from a 698-day absence with an impressive victory at Thirsk in April. Tate is giving the son of Churchill time to recover but is wary of the lack of experience of the five-year-old who has only raced four times, winning three of them. He added: 'The Ebor is probably the long-term plan. We're just plotting what to do between now and then really. We'll give him plenty of time off after his win and then we've just got to consider our handicap mark don't we. 98 gets you into the Ebor, and 108 probably gets you beat in the Ebor. 'He's a good horse but he probably lacks is a little bit of experience. That's the only thing that puts me off sending him straight to a big handicap. We're pretty sure he has the engine for it but he's still a little green.'

Bay City Roller handed possible Eugene Adam date
The George Scott-trained three-year-old surrendered his unbeaten record at the Esher track when carrying a 5lb penalty for his Champagne Stakes victory and was caught out for pace over a mile by Charlie Appleby's 5-4 favourite Opera Ballo. Billy Jackson-Stops, racing manager for owners Victorious Racing, is keen to see the New Bay colt step up to a mile and a quarter with Saint-Cloud the target later this month. Jackson-Stops said: 'We kind of knew we were going to get done for gas over a mile with the way we've been working this year. 'We've been working very well, showing that he was going to be a 10-furlong horse. 'We got stuck between a rock and a hard place. The French Derby was always going to come up quick. 'So we had to go to the Heron and carry a penalty and we thought he ran superbly. He ran through the line and we'll step him up to 10 furlongs now. '(We will) possibly have a look at the race in France called the Eugene Adam, a mile-and-a-quarter race at the end of the month and go from there step by step.'
