IndiGo flight suffers bird hit, lands in Ranchi
RANCHI: A major accident was averted as an IndiGo Aircraft on its way to Kolkata via Ranchi from Patna had an emergency landing at Ranchi Airport after being hit by a bird on Monday afternoon. The passengers were unhurt.
According to reports, IndiGo's Airbus A320 craft was en route from Patna to Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport with 175 passengers when it collided with a vulture, which was flying at around 4,000 feet, just before landing.
'An IndiGo flight suffered a bird hit near Ranchi. It was approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles away from here, at about 3,000 to 4,000 feet altitude, when the incident occurred. The IndiGo flight was coming from Patna to Ranchi, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing here,' Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, Director R R Maurya said.
At that time, the plane reportedly was 10-12 nautical miles away, at an altitude of 3,000-4,000 feet. The aircraft suffered a dent in the front.
The aircraft remained airborne for approximately 40 minutes after the hit, before the pilot made the emergency landing. The pilot kept the plane in safe flight till the landing. Sources say the pilot followed all protocols after the bird hit. Engineers are assessing the extent of the damage.

Bhubaneswar: Direct flight services from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam will begin soon, private carrier IndiGo has announced. It will be fifth southern city to be connected to the state capital after Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Hyderabad. The airlines, however, has not announced the date of commencement of the flight. The expansion follows IndiGo's maiden international service from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi, scheduled to begin on June 12. Two destinations in West Asia opens a gateway to Gulf countries, Europe, North America and Canada with just one stop.

Patna-bound flight gets hoax bomb threat
Patna: A bomb hoax threat was reported on Ahmedabad-Patna IndiGo flight (6E 921) minutes before its landing at the Patna airport on Wednesday, triggering panic among the passengers and authorities. The threat message was received by the IndiGo station manager via WhatsApp just a few minutes before the flight's scheduled landing at the Patna airport. The flight landed safely and was taken to an isolation bay for a thorough inspection. Bomb disposal and dog squad teams were called to search the aircraft. After a comprehensive search, no explosives or suspicious objects were found. The IndiGo flight 6E 921 departed from Ahmedabad at 10.55am and arrived at Patna airport around 1pm. Before the arrival of the aircraft, the airline's station manager, Shalini, received a WhatsApp message containing a photograph of a tissue paper with the word 'bomb' written on it. An Airports Authority of India (AAI) representative said, "The IndiGo official immediately informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) about it, which in turn alerted the CISF, which provides security cover to the airport." Following safety protocols, all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft approximately 40 minutes after landing. The CISF personnel, along with sniffer dogs and explosive detection equipment, conducted an extensive search of the aircraft but found nothing suspicious. The evacuated passengers experienced an additional hour-long delay in collecting their luggage. Airport authorities are probing the origin of the hoax message.

Bomb threat on IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Patna
A bomb threat on an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Patna (6E 921) triggered a massive search on board the aircraft after it landed at the Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) airport in Patna around 1pm on Wednesday, said officials. All 192 passengers on board the aircraft were evacuated safely around 40 minutes after the aircraft landed and it was parked in the isolation bay of the airport in Patna. Later, the aircraft was taken to bay number 1 where passengers were allowed to disembark. CISF personnel, with sniffer dogs, initiated a search of the aircraft cargo area at the time of filing this report. A similar search was to be carried out inside the passenger area of the aircraft, said officials. A meeting of officials, including those of the airport, security, the district administration and the police was conducted, as part of the standard operating procedure in such cases, after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) informed the administrative and police machinery of the state. The bomb threat was received through a WhatsApp on the cellphone of IndiGo station manager, Shalini, after the flight landed at Patna. The WhatsApp had 'bomb' written on a napkin tissue, as per the message communicated to the Air Traffic Control (ATC), which immediately alerted the CISF. The aircraft had taken off from Ahmedabad at 10:55pm, 10 minutes ahead of its scheduled departure, and landed at Patna at 1pm, as per FlightAware app.
