Buckingham Palace announces royal baby news after premature arrival with adorable first photo
Buckingham Palace has announced the arrival of a new royal baby, born several weeks early.
Princess Beatrice, the daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson, welcomed baby Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi on January 22, the Palace announced on Wednesday. The 36-year-old princess was due to give birth in early spring.
Buckingham Palace said Athena, who arrived weighing 4lb 5oz, is healthy and doing well despite her early arrival. The late Queen's granddaughter and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second child at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and the family are now back home.

Buckingham Palace announced the news in a statement on social media, alongside a photo of the newborn wrapped in a pink blanket.
The statement read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm. The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces."
It continued: "The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.
"Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.
"Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena's older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna."
Beatrice was reportedly due to give birth in early spring and received medical advice in December to not travel for long distances. She joined the royal family at church in Sandringham on Christmas Day after changing her travel plans to spend the festive period overseas, with doctors said to have warned that a premature arrival was a possibility.
The royal baby is a younger sister to the couple's three-year-old daughter, Sienna, and Mr Mapelli Mozzi's son and Beatrice's stepson, eight-year-old Wolfie.

Ystrad Mynach's famous white squirrel has died
A famous and rare one-in-100,000 white squirrel has reportedly died. The creature had been a hit with locals in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly borough, over the last few years. Residents and visitors regularly shared sightings on social media, which helped the rodent make national news a number of times since it was first spotted around 2023. The squirrel appeared to have red-blue eyes and bright white fur, so it was thought to have been an albino squirrel. Albinism is a genetic mutation that causes a complete lack of pigment. Sadly, local man Kev Hart, who regularly saw the beautiful animal in his garden, shared that he found it dead. READ MORE: Met Office issues yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Wales and 14 areas will see the worst of it READ MORE: Tractor driver had asked for permission to cross before Cardiff-bound train hit him He said it didn't have any obvious signs of injury and he hopes to bury it soon. He told WalesOnline: "I came across the deceased squirrel opposite my drive, which is down the lane next to Portofinos. "There are no visual signs that it had been run over or attacked in any way. I will wrap it in plastic sheeting and bury it later. "I'm gutted because I have gotten used to see it running around." He added: "I used to see it least once a week. Last week he was running across the roof of the toilet block. "He was always risking it by crossing the road though, but there was no visible damage to him to explain his death." The white squirrel isn't the only unusual squirrel that has been spotted in the town. Earlier this week a striking grey and white squirrel was pictured visiting someone's garden. It is likely that the squirrel is leucistic, a genetic condition causing the partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white, pale, or patchy coloration. You can read about that here. In the wild grey squirrels typically live between two and five years, but they can live up to nine years. Grey squirrels often die due to a combination of predation, disease, and human-related factors like car collisions.

Thunderstorms to bring more rain this weekend than all of May
Thunderstorms will bring more rainfall in six hours this weekend than England and Wales saw in the whole of May. The Met Office has warned that 'all areas' of Britain face torrential rain and thunder this weekend. Heavy showers would be accompanied by lightning and hail in some places, the forecaster added. Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, said 50mm of rain could fall within the space of six hours on Saturday. He said: 'That is more than what we have seen in the whole of the month of May. 'There will be some heavy downpours with thunder, lightning and hail. 'Most places are at risk of thunderstorms.' On average, England saw 33mm of rainfall in the whole of May. This was roughly half as much as usual, the forecaster said. Wales had 51mm of rainfall. Mr Morgan warned people to keep abreast of the forecasts as the weather was looking 'pretty changeable'. He said: 'There are a lot of outside events taking place this weekend. There is the potential for some disruption. 'We could see some flooding and surface water on the roads. Strong winds will mean temporary structures such as marquees could be vulnerable. 'It is welcome rain, really, for a lot of people, particularly farmers and gardeners.' On Friday night, a new weather front will bring rain and thunder for the weekend, but temperatures are set to rise next week to just above average for the time of year. Andrea Bishop, the Met Office spokesperson, said: 'The weather will be changeable for the rest of this week, with everyone likely to see some showers at some point. 'Generally, the theme is the continuation of something a bit cooler, a bit breezy at times, and a bit wet at times too. 'We are keeping an eye on a new front which looks like it will move in on Friday night, bringing rain which could be heavy, and possibly thundery at times on Saturday. 'Rainfall totals of 20-30mm are likely in places and at present, this looks like it will affect the southern half of the UK. We are keeping a close eye on this to see how it evolves over the next 24 hours or so.' Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. 11 years in prison for man who shot grocery store worker and assaulted correction officer
A 21-year-old Magnolia man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for shooting a teen grocery store employee in 2023 and for assaulting a correctional officer later that year. In addition to his 11-year prison stint, the Delaware Department of Justice said Jay'Mere Matthews will have several levels of probation to go through after he is released. Matthews was charged after the Aug. 22, 2023, shooting of a 19-year-old Redner's Markets employee near the grocery store located at 2500 S. DuPont Highway in Camden. The employee, according to the DOJ, was unarmed. Matthews was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution for that crime when prosecutors said he assaulted a correctional officer on Christmas Day of that same year. Matthews pleaded guilty but mentally ill to first-degree assault, second-degree assault of a correctional officer and a weapons charge. He was sentenced on May 27. He will receive a mental health evaluation and may serve a portion of his sentence at the Delaware Psychiatric Center new New Castle before being remanded to the state Department of Correction.
