The most unpopular dad names in UK - check if your baby has one that's fizzling out

Picking a name for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you'll make, so the pressure is on parents to pick a good one as it is with them for life.
It's also hard to pick one that will stand the test of time and many parents-to-be spend months searching through baby name books or browsing online to find the perfect moniker for their little one.
However, it seems that some previously common 'dad names' have become so unpopular that they don't look like they will be making a comeback any time soon.
Dads celebrating Father's Day this weekend might want to check out our list to see if their name is on the brink of extinction.
For many years, names like Craig and Lee were heard all around the UK - but they are at risk of dying out altogether, with few parents choosing them these days, writes The Mirror.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Craig and Lee ranked high on the list when it came to the most popular baby names. In 1974, Craig came in as the 28th most popular baby name for boys, and ten years later, it became even more fashionable, coming in at 19th.
These days, only nine babies have been named Craig in the UK, according to recent statistics, which means it's fallen 2306 places in the rankings since 1984.
The extinction of so-called 'dad names' goes beyond this though, with the name Lee falling straight to the bottom of the list.
In 1974, Lee was the 12th most popular choice, and a decade later, its popularity had only fallen very slightly, to 15th. Now, Lee has fallen a whopping 1127 places on the ranking list - so you aren't too likely to come across a baby boy named this that often.
While commiserations should be given to all the Craigs and Lees you know out there - who might not be delighted to hear this news - they are also joined by Garys and Pauls.
Gary used to be a top choice for baby boys, but in 2023, only eight babies were bestowed this name. Paul was the number one name in 1974, but has since dropped 464th in the popularity charts.
The number one name for baby boys in 1984, Christopher, has also seen a huge drop in popularity, dropping out of the top 100 altogether and hitting the 187th spot - with only 269 babies given this one in 2023.
Some boys' names have managed to remain popular through the decades in the UK, however.
Names like Thomas, James, Adam, and Alexander all still prove pretty popular with parents to this day, and to a lesser extent David, Daniel, and Michael, which have all dropped from their original high positions in the charts, but remained in the top 100.

They are part of a collection estimated to sell for between £20,000 and £30,000. In his memoir, Dahl recalled various childhood exploits, including playing a prank with his friends on the local sweetshop owner, Mrs Pratchett, by putting a dead mouse in a gobstopper jar. Dahl drew a mouse lying on top of the sweets with its legs in the air to illustrate the escapade. The drawings were found in an envelope marked "Dahl's drawings & odds and sods", which belonged to Ian Craig, the art director at Jonathan Cape. Mr Craig, who died in 2023, created the final illustrations for the book, inspired by Dahl's drawings, and received a blue cashmere cardigan as a gift from the author. The sketches being auctioned are part of the production archive for Boy from Mr Craig's estate. Mr Craig, who grew up in Ipswich, was a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and joined Jonathan Cape in 1973, five years before Dahl began a partnership with illustrator Blake. His widow Kate Craig, who also worked at Jonathan Cape, said: "The publication of Boy was on a very tight publication schedule. As Quentin Blake was away on holiday, Ian asked Dahl if he could help with the illustrations. They are a unique addition to his canon and allow us to observe the transformation of his childhood memories into the printed form, a medium in which they would be cherished by generations of readers. "Ian Craig undoubtedly played a key role in Dahl's publishing success, overseeing not only the production of Boy, but many more of his famous children's stories.'

BBC presenter becomes choked up during heartfelt Father's Day announcement
BBC One presenter Duncan Newmarch has jerked the nation's tears once again thanks to his Father's Day tribute. Newmarch has been presenting BBC shows for the last 21 years, introducing some of the channel's biggest programmes. However, his latest piece of work evoked an especially emotional response from viewers at home. Just before announcing tonight's episode of Race Across the World, Newmarch took a moment to recognise Father's Day. The BBC One broadcaster read out: 'Whether you are with your dad, chatting on the phone, or just missing him… happy Father's Day from BBC One.' Another X user, @cl_clarke, expressed their connection to the announcement: 'Missing him…still…33 years for me this year.' @chriswilliams76 also remembered one of Newmarch's previous emotional voice-overs: 'It's nearly five years since your continuity piece before the Strictly final went viral about the fact that Christmas wasn't the Christmas we had all hoped for…' Indeed, this isn't the first time Newmarch has made viewers cry, as he was responsible for the viral announcement before the Strictly Come Dancing final in 2020. In December that year, as the UK was facing stricter Covid-19 rules, Newmarch spread a heartwarming message in an attempt to keep spirits high in those tough Tier 4 days. The message said: 'Now, in a year that has kept us apart, whether you're watching in Tyne and Wear, Devon, Berkshire, or Lincolnshire… we are all watching BBC One together.' Newmarch tweeted following the announcement, expressing the raw emotion behind it: 'Thank you for the kind comments about my line into the @bbcstrictly final. 'After this afternoon's news I had to rewrite a handful of scripts as they didn't seem appropriate. This is why live announcers can make a difference.' The announcement soon spread as his words resonated with so many people across the nation who were all losing hope in togetherness as the country faced the unknown.
