Viral racist rant in Pinole sparks hate crime investigation
The Brief
A woman was seen on video repeatedly using N— word during a dispute with a Black woman in Pinole.
Officers told KTVU that they responded to the scene and interviewed both women.
The Pinole Police Department has classified the incident as a hate crime and the investigation is ongoing.
PINOLE, Calif, - A video of a woman in a car repeatedly using the N— word in Pinole has gone viral.
In between the slurs, the woman added an insult, referring to the other woman's "fake a— eyelashes."
The recorded interaction ends with the suspect yelling, "Get outta my face, you f— n— ."
The argument between the two women happened in a public parking lot in downtown Pinole on Sunday afternoon.
The woman using the slurs could not be reached for comment, and she has taken down some of her social media.
The woman on the receiving end of the racist rant told KTVU she was targeted for no apparent reason.
"It's quite unfortunate the verbiage she was using. It's unacceptable," said the woman, who didn't want to be identified. "I don't understand why she was using it towards anybody in public at all. She's obviously not supposed to be using that type of vulgar language."
Pinole police officers responded to the scene and spoke to both women.
What they're saying
"Due to the nature of the verbal exchange between the involved parties, the incident has been classified as a hate incident and is currently under investigation by the department's criminal investigation bureau," the Pinole Police Department.
Felicia Carr of Fairfield reposted the video on her social media and helped identify the woman using the slurs.
"It's really disheartening. We're living in some very trying times," Carr said. "With the tensions that's going on and racism at an all-time high right now, it was just so much racism and blatant disrespect, it was sad to see."
On Wednesday, KTVU spoke to the mother of the woman now under investigation. She did not want to go on camera but said she was sad and had been crying constantly after learning about the video a day earlier.
KTVU has learned the woman accused of using racial slurs has a pending criminal case, charged with repeatedly stealing from Ulta Beauty in Concord.
The manager of a nearby restaurant told KTVU the woman had been a customer, laughing by herself. He said she was no longer welcome there.

It's not unclear what led up to the disagreement caught on video.

"It does not matter. It does not matter at all," Carr said. "No matter what the context, it was out of line. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what transpired before. She was out of line."
Pinole Mayor Cameron Sasai said, "Seeing the footage, I'm disturbed, I'm outrage. The use of racial slurs, everything from racist anti-Black rhetoric, is not welcome anywhere, especially in the city of Pinole."
Carr said, "It's not a nice word to use, and it should never be used. She should definitely be educated on it."

Advertisement Presumably under her orders, the LAPD waited two hours before assisting beleaguered ICE agents Friday, sending the now-familiar Democrat signal to the rioters to do their worst. We saw the same in 2020, from Kenosha to Seattle. So President Trump mobilized the National Guard the next day. 'These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED,' he said on Truth Social. Trump has learned the lesson of 2020 and no longer has to deal with turncoats in his own administration. This time, despite the complicity of California authorities, the rioters are facing overwhelming resistance. Trump is not about to let the city that is due to host the FIFA World Cup next year and the 2028 Olympics descend into chaos. He has 'zero tolerance' border czar Tom Homan and unflinching Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem backing him. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is prepared to bring in Marines from nearby Camp Pendleton. Treasurer Secretary Scott Bessent pounded Newsom on Sunday, accusing him of 'threatening to commit criminal tax evasion' and warning of dire consequences. The Trump Cabinet is united and energized. Don presses forward 'You're going to see some very strong law and order,' the president told reporters Sunday en route to Camp David to meet with generals and admirals about 'a very major subject.' The riots were top of mind: 'If we see danger to our country and to our citizens, we'll be very, very strong in terms of law and order.' He was particularly disgusted by the tactic of protesters spitting in the face of federal officers. 'I have a little statement: 'They spit, we hit.' . . . Nobody's going to spit on our police officers. Nobody's going to spit on our military, which they do as a common thing. They get up and they start spitting in their face. That happens, they get hit very hard . . . We're going to have troops everywhere. We're not going to let our country get torn apart.' Law and order is what voters chose in November, and their good sense has been vindicated ever since. Now, a majority of Americans think the country is on the right track for the first time in Rasmussen polling history. Under Biden, in November 2024, the numbers were reversed. Only 26% said the country was on the right track, while 63% said wrong track. Trump is moving ahead relentlessly, dragging in investment trillions, trying to end two wars, bullying and schmoozing foreign leaders, bending Congress to his will, bulldozing every obstacle in his path, including the unfortunate Musk, while enthusiastically planning a new White House ballroom. A clue to why Trump's popularity is defying gravity comes from a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, 'Art of the Surge,' about his historic return to the White House. It's now in its second season and has been snapped up by Fox Nation, which began streaming it Wednesday night. The project has been a labor of love for Tucker Carlson's former longtime producing partner, Justin Wells, who has been shadowing Trump for almost a year. Waymo vehicles set on fire in downtown L.A, as protesters, police clash
As Los Angeles police struggled with another day of unrest in downtown L.A., several Waymo autonomous taxis were set on fire, sending black smoke billowing into the air. The dramatic images were captured during an afternoon of clashes between large groups who were protesting immigration raids by the Trump administration and L.A. police who were trying to maintain order. For some time, protesters blocked traffic on the 101 Freeway before California Highway Patrol officers slowly pushed them back. Police advised residents to avoid the the 101 Freeway through downtown L.A. Images of the Waymo cars on fire on Los Angeles Street were broadcast nationally as Los Angeles has become a flashpoint in the immigration debate. Tires were slashed, windows smashed, and anti-ICE messages spray-painted over the cars, which were parked in a row. Protesters swarmed around the vehicles, tearing the doors off and stomping on the windshields. One man with a mask over his face smashed car windows with a skateboard. Another appeared to use a makeshift flamethrower to set the interior of a car ablaze. Around 5:30 p.m., some people were seen throwing Lime electric scooters into the burning cars, while others stood back. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the vehicle blazes while the Los Angeles Police Department warned people to stay away from the area. 'Burning lithium-ion batteries release toxic gases, including hydrogen fluoride, posing risks to responders and those nearby,' said the LAPD in a statement. Waymo's fleet of electric, self-driving taxis has become a familiar sight on L.A. roads. A spokesperson for Waymo told The Times the company was in touch with law enforcement regarding the incident. After launching in San Francisco and Phoenix, Waymo began serving Los Angeles in November. It attracted an initial wait list of around 300,000 people before becoming available to anyone who downloaded the service's app, a company spokesperson said in January. As of January, Waymo had already driven 1.9 million miles in Los Angeles.
