Revamp over, NDMC plans to reopen Srijan Art Gallery in Nehru Park

Time of India6 hours ago

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council has completed the refurbishment of Srijan Art Gallery in Nehru Park and will open it to the public soon. The open-air gallery near gate number 1 of Nehru Park will serve as a platform for young, budding artists to showcase their artwork.
"The place was revamped recently, and the civil department also installed grills around this place. There is a provision for a shed with spaces created for displaying artworks and lights installed to highlight art pieces. We will inaugurate the facility soon," said NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal.
Exhibitions will be organised frequently at the gallery, with a nominal or no fee for the visitors. "Young national awardees will be given space here to display their works.
Considering several people come here for morning walks and other recreational activities, it would be the perfect place to display artworks with so much greenery around," said Chahal.
Aiming to implement projects related to art and culture in a more creative manner after engaging expert artists, NDMC set up an art and culture department in May. A budget of approximately Rs 40 crore, 1% of its expenditure account, has been earmarked this fiscal for implementing related projects.

They include beautification through street art, music in the park, art exhibitions in subways, an annual Mandi House art festival, and creating art plazas and rehearsal spaces.
NDMC earlier also shared plans to form a committee in collaboration with institutions like Sahitya Kala Parishad and Triveni Kala Sangam to promote art and culture. Plans include developing an art gallery at Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar and rehearsal spaces for artistes in schools.
A summer art workshop was also organised in Navyug School in May.
Areas like Khan Market will be adorned with vibrant street art to enhance pedestrian experiences as part of the art on public places initiatives. "If it turns out to be successful, this initiative will be extended to other major markets," Chahal had said.
NDMC has already started organising its 'music in the park' series at Nehru Park featuring performances by renowned artistes. To increase footfall in the subways that sometimes become isolated, there is a plan to hold art and culture exhibitions in Connaught Place subways, giving emerging artists an opportunity to showcase their talents, he had added.

Troy Aikman's joke on drinking preference of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and why they don't hang out

Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman may be living the California dream in Montecito , but don't expect to spot him sipping tea—or light beer—with his famous neighbors, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle , anytime soon. Aikman, the legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current ESPN 'Monday Night Football' broadcaster, recently revealed why he hasn't become friendly with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, despite sharing the same exclusive zip code. 'I haven't run into them,' Aikman told US Weekly. 'But they are there from what I can gather. I think anyone with a heartbeat knows that they're out there. But I'm not hanging with them, that's for sure.' Promoting his Eight Elite Light Beer , Aikman joked that he doesn't picture Harry and Meghan 'drinking much light beer,' hinting that their social circles—and beverage preferences—might not overlap. The NFL icon, 58, is known for his disciplined lifestyle and love for fitness, noting that while he enjoys beer, he's equally passionate about working out and healthy living. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Photos Captured the Exact Wrong Moment Read More Undo Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties, but their integration into the local community has been a mixed bag. Some residents have called Meghan 'the starlet' and blame the couple for busier streets, rising housing prices, and an uptick in tourist traffic. Others, like actress Sharon Stone, have praised the couple for becoming 'a giving, caring, participating part of our community,' emphasizing that they're not trying to be above their neighbors. Despite the star power concentrated in Montecito—where celebrities like Natalie Portman, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jeff Bridges also reside—Aikman seems content to keep his interactions casual and his social calendar focused elsewhere. 'I don't think they're drinking much light beer,' he quipped, making it clear that, royal or not, he's not angling for an invite to Frogmore Cottage West. Live Events For now, Aikman is gearing up for another NFL season in the broadcast booth with Joe Buck, while Harry and Meghan continue to make headlines with their own projects and public appearances.
