Exhibit celebrates Islamic culture through art
The Punjab Arts Council (PAC) organised a remarkable exhibition showcasing the artwork of renowned painter and calligrapher Azeem Iqbal especially in consideration of the blessed month of Ramazan.
Azeem Iqbal's work centres on Islamic civilisation and culture. His artworks include calligraphic paintings, wall hangings and sculptures featuring Islamic architecture and other token items which he represents through the use of mixed mediums. Azeem Iqbal's calligraphy exhibition has previously been displayed at the Pakistan National Council of Arts, Lok Virsa, National Book Foundation, Allama Iqbal Open University, Quaid-e-Azam University, and various embassies, where his work has been highly appreciated.
Renowned calligraphers Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, Ghulam Muhammad Zuberi and other artists praised Azeem Iqbal's work, stating that his art beautifully reflects Islamic culture and serves as an inspiration for the younger generation. Among the distinguished personalities attending the exhibition were Dr Kamran Jahangir, Managing Director of National Book Foundation, Dr Jalal Ahmed, well-known poet Anjum Saleemi, civil officers, women and a large number of individuals associated with fine arts.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Member National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed, who was also the chief guest. Former Director Waqar Ahmed, Naheed Manzoor, Director Sajjad Hussain and Deputy Director Muhammad Shakoor were also present on this occasion. Speaking at the event, the chief guest stated that an exhibition of calligraphy based on Islamic culture and civilisation is a commendable initiative that not only promotes art but also encourages other artists. He further emphasised that there is no shortage of talent in our country; however, it is essential to provide opportunities to skilled individuals from all fields so that they can further enhance their abilities.
Former Director of PAC, Waqar Ahmed also shared his views, stating that such exhibitions provide a platform for young artists to refine their skills. Prominent cultural figure Naheed Manzoor, who also attended the event, remarked that the promotion of Islamic arts is crucial for the preservation of our cultural heritage.
PAC Director Sajjad Hussain highlighted that the Council is making every effort to promote young talent.

Listen to article It's again time to smile and embrace each other. The festive occasion of Eid-ul-Azha that reminds of the gracious sacrificial spirit of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismael (AS) should come as an opportunity to cajole our lives in the spirit of submission to Almighty, trueness to humanity and eagerness to stand tall for the cause of compassion and benevolence. This year as the nation celebrates Eid, it should also reflect on the socio-economic and societal conditions around, and form a human chain to come to each other's redress. Economic degeneration and political discord are two of the greatest challenges facing the nation, and this year the aggression from a warmongering eastern neighbour has brought to the fore as to how important is national unity, and how inevitable is seeking lessons from the great religion of Islam in the domains of sacrifice, national service and commitment to oneness. The nation today must revisit the fundamentals of tender-heartedness and brotherhood. The lesson of sacrifice on this day teaches the indispensable virtues of obedience to divine commandments, as solicited and performed by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by laying down his son to slaughter. All that he was exhibiting is his faith in Almighty, and establishing beyond doubt that submission to His will is ultimate. The bounties that are served on this day must have a judicious and God-fearing dissemination among the needy. The spirit must be to ensure that all are in it, and none are ignored. This belief must persist throughout the year by upholding benevolence, helping overcome the prevailing sense of otherness so that benignity sets in, and discords and discriminations in society are done away with. Grand Mosque Imam urges compassion and solidarity with Palestine in Hajj sermon
Listen to article Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, the Imam of Makkah's Grand Mosque, delivered a spiritually charged sermon on Thursday during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, calling for unity, piety, and compassion—while offering heartfelt prayers for the people of Palestine. The sermon took place at Masjid Namirah in Arafat, where approximately 1.5 million pilgrims from across the globe gathered to perform Waqoof-e-Arafah, the central rite of Hajj. The Day of Arafat is considered the holiest day in the Islamic calendar, a time when believers seek divine forgiveness and draw spiritually closer to God. In his address, Sheikh Humaid focused on the core themes of Tawheed (the oneness of God), sincere worship, and moral conduct. He reminded Muslims that worship is due to Allah alone and that no prophet or righteous person should be venerated in place of the Creator. The Imam emphasised Islam's fundamental pillars—prayer (salah), fasting (sawm), almsgiving (zakat), and pilgrimage (Hajj)—urging believers to uphold virtues such as patience, modesty, truthfulness, and gratitude. He called for kindness toward parents, neighbours, orphans, widows, and the underprivileged, warning against spiritual and moral dangers including gossip (gheebah), religious innovation (bid'ah), and Satan's deception. 'Good and evil are not the same,' he said. 'Responding to harm with goodness can turn enemies into friends.' The Imam also reaffirmed belief in all prophets, emphasising that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a mercy to all of humanity, with his coming foretold in earlier scriptures. In a poignant moment, Sheikh Humaid prayed for the suffering people of Palestine, calling on Muslims to support the oppressed, feed the hungry, and give generously in alms. His words come amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the region. Expressing deep appreciation to the Saudi leadership, the Imam commended the Kingdom's efforts in organising and facilitating the pilgrimage for millions of worshippers. Following the sermon, pilgrims began their journey to Muzdalifah, situated between Arafat and Mina, where they will spend the night collecting pebbles for the symbolic stoning of the devil—scheduled for Friday, as the Hajj continues.

Tump assistant commissioner abducted from near Tigranabad, Balochistan
Armed men abducted Tump Assistant Commissioner Hanif Noorzai on Wednesday morning near Tigranabad as he was traveling with his family to Quetta, according to local sources. Eyewitnesses report that between six to eight armed individuals stopped his official vehicle, took him away at gunpoint, and fled with the car. His wife, driver, and official gunman were left at the site and remain unharmed. The incident has prompted a swift response from security forces, who have launched a large-scale search operation in the area. Snap-checking has begun along Zubaida Jalal Road and nearby routes, while intelligence-based efforts are being used to track the abductors. The abduction of a senior government officer has raised concerns over the safety of civil servants in Balochistan, particularly in the Makran region. Authorities have not yet identified those responsible, and no group has claimed responsibility as of now. Efforts to locate and safely recover Assistant Commissioner Noorzai are ongoing. Earlier this week, seven terrorists allegedly affiliated with the India-backed group Fitna al-Hindustan were killed in two separate operations in Balochistan on June 2, 2025. Earlier, the federal government had officially designated all terrorist groups operating in Balochistan as 'Fitna al Hindustan', accusing India of sponsoring a proxy war through these outfits. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the move stems from 'the involvement of some organizations and groups in terrorist activities in Balochistan, which are detrimental to Islamic faith, the sovereignty of Pakistan, and its customary traditions'. The notification further stated that the new designation is intended to reflect 'the true nature and ideology' of these groups and their 'nefarious designs' sponsored by India. 'All government entities are directed to start the above practice immediately,' the notification said, underscoring a concerted effort to reframe the narrative around insurgent violence in the province. The announcement came after Islamabad accused India of escalating indirect aggression after what he described as its defeat in a recent security operation dubbed "Marka-e-Haq'.
