‘Bows hold 15th-ranked UCSB scoreless in series finale
The Hawaii Baseball Team found themselves in another pitchers dual on Sunday against 15h-ranked UC Santa Barbara.
UH tied the series up at 1 after their win on Saturday night, had a chance to take the series win on Sunday.
This one was scoreless through the first 3.5 innings as both pitchers not allowing much to happen. But in the 3rd inning, Hawaii broke the scoreless tie from a Jared Quandt RBI Single.
That run would be the difference as UH holds number 15 Guachos scoreless in the series finale.
Freshman pitcher Cooper Walls with an impressive 7.0 innings on the mound, allowing 4 hits and 0 runs to UCSB.
Hawaii wins 1-0 on Sunday to improve to 2-3 in Big West Play on the season.

First Filipino games tournament launching in Hawaiʻi
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Gather your friends and family this summer to participate in some friendly competition. Miss Philippines Hawaii: Celebrating Empowerment, Culture, and Community The Filipino Community Center and the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu are launching the Palarong Pinoy 2025 – Traditional Filipino Games Competition. Participants will compete and be taught how to play traditional Filipino games, including Tumbang Preso (knock-down-the-can game), Pantintero (traditional tag game), Sipa (traditional foot game) and more. The games are open to all ages, welcoming both experienced and inexperienced individuals. Prizes will be awarded to winners, with the top teams advancing to the finals round. Some of the goals of this event are to provide cultural preservation, community building, educational outreach and family first qualifying round of games will take place at the Filipino Community Center on June 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the final round of games taking place at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu on July 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is now open online here and in person at the Filipino Community Center. Seabury Hall alum Tyler Loree inducted into HHSAA Hall of Honor, headed to UCLA
The HHSAA held its Hall of Honor ceremony last week, with 12 new student-athletes inducted. One of those 12, is Seabury Hall's Tyler Loree. The Spartan just graduated from the school and is has been one of the top golfers in the state throughout his whole high school career. Loree now can add his name amongst some of the best athletes to ever play Prep Sports in the Hawaiian Islands. 'It's actually very special because the HHSAA has so many different sports across like all of Hawaii, all the schools and all the districts. It's very cool that I'm like, I'm honored as one of the best individuals in all of the sports combined,' said Loree. Loree has left his mark on the sport of Golf in Hawaii, as he was a 3-time MIL Champion and a back-to-back State Champion. He also played in the PGA Sony Open last January where he competed in his 2 days of competition where he was inside the cutline after day 1. 'I feel like I truly, throughout my high school career, I've kind of found myself as a golfer, but even more importantly, as a person and kind of who I am,' said Loree. Oʻahu racetrack gets the green light
HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu was given the green light for a racetrack in West Oʻahu. Plans in the works for 2 West Oahu racetracks The former Navy land near Kalaeloa Airport has been a discussion since the late 90s, and officials said the track will start small before eventually expanding. 'It feels like a dream, it's been 26 years,' said long-time race track supporter and enthusiast Li Cobian. Cobian said plans to acquire the land go back to Mayor Jeremy Harris back in 1998. 'If it wasn't for Rick Blangiardi and managing director Mike Formby, this would never have happened, I feel like crying,' Cobian added. On Thursday evening, Mayor Blangiardi told a crowd at his last Town Hall of the year that the Parks and Recreation director received an e-mail earlier in the day that said they had approval to use the land. 'This is something we made a commitment to because there is a big, big interest across the island in auto sports,' he told community members at the town hall. Four-hundred acres were transferred to the city by the National Park Service in June 2024. 'The National Park Service has agreed to let us do an interim use for the 20-acre lot out at Kalaeloa for a motor sports recreation use,' explained Parks Director Laura Thielen. The plan for the track stretches from Coral Sea Road and Independence Road down to Kalaeloa Airport. For now, Thielen says they can build a dirt style track. 'And that can happen concurrent while we go through with a master plan for the overall area,' she explained during the town hall meeting. Cobian says the park service recognizing motor sports as recreation helped move the process along. The city said the racetrack is intended to be an interim facility while it works on developing a master plan for all 400-acres.'Phase 1 is this parcel area which is 22.9 acres,' Cobian showed KHON2 while pointing towards parcels on the Kalaeloa Airport side of the road. 'Phase 2 is this whole area down almost a mile and it's close to 200 acres,' he added while pointing to the opposite side of the road. Nearby residents said they are concerned about noise, traffic and safety as the city says there are many trespassers in the area. Cobian says most are homeless. City crews were seen putting in concrete barriers to block access into parts of the wooded area. 'We got a lot of homeless and they're constantly dumping trash,' Cobian said. 'So the sooner we get out here and break ground and clean everything up, put some fences up, we're going to deter all of that.' Cobian stated it will also prevent fires in the area. The City says it has requested funds in the upcoming fiscal year 2026 budget for the master plan which will include public input. The City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation said it has allocated $1.8 million in the upcoming budget for consultant services to help develop that Master Plan. DPR said it also appropriated $150,000 for on guard services to reduce illegal activity in the area, and $500,000 in CIP funds to renovate and reopen the bathrooms at the Kalaeloa Campgrounds. The city adds the Master Plan will include robust public input, along with environmental and cultural assessments.
