GJ LDS church plans open house for new temple
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – Anyone who's driven through the roundabout at 12th Street and Horizon Drive has more than likely noticed the big white building under construction.
The building – the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – has been under construction for three years. But soon community members can see inside the temple with their very own eyes.
Residents can attend an open house from Sept. 11-27 except on Sundays. This is a unique opportunity as the temple is a sacred building for LDS and not typically open to the public. Temples differ from chapels.
It will be the only time that the community can enter the building.
The Grand Junction temple will be the 209th operating temple around the world. It will also be the third temple built in Colorado followed by locations in Denver and Fort Collins. The former temple was erected in 1986 while the latter was built in 2016.
