Winnipeg Blue Bombers' Nic Demski, CFL's top offensive player for Week Two
The Canadian Football League's top offensive player for Week Two of the 2025 regular season is Nic Demski of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The veteran slotback earned his spot on the 'CFL Honour Roll' by hauling in four catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Bombers' impressive 34-20 season opening victory versus the BC Lions on Thursday, June 12, before a sixth straight sellout crowd at Princess Auto Stadium .
'It was some good football, definitely a great way to start the year,' said Demski on the 680 CJOB Post Game Show that evening.
'You know, there was some mistakes on all three phases but at the end of the day we bounced back and I thought we kept momentum the whole game — we finished it right.'

Demski capped off Winnipeg's first offensive drive of the season with a 20-yard touchdown reception with the game barely two and a half minutes old. His second major — off a four-yard corner rout deep in the BC end zone — finished off a six-play, 65-yard Bomber drive that began late in the third quarter and ended early in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

'The first one, we definitely saw some stuff on film where we thought it could have popped. Strev just delivered a great ball. I just ran as fast as I could and took the middle of the field and caught it,' said Demski of the pass thrown by Chris Streveler for Winnipeg's opening touchdown.
'The second one basically was just a read. If they had two on two to the field, corner route go in — which you know I love to do — Strev just threw it and let me go make my money.'
The 31 year old Winnipegger is now in his 10th CFL season, including the last seven with his hometown Blue Bombers after playing the first three years of his pro career with Saskatchewan.
Winnipeg begins this campaign looking to make their sixth consecutive appearance in the Grey Cup and will attempt to take the next step towards achieving that goal when they visit Vancouver on Saturday to complete the two-game regular season series versus the Lions.
The broadcast on 680 CJOB with Derek Taylor and Doug Brown gets underway with the pregame show at 4 p.m. CT, followed by the play-by-play at 6 p.m. CT from BC Place Stadium.

Women's tackle football is gaining popularity in Manitoba
In the midst of playoff season, passion for football has never been stronger among the Manitoba Fearless. 'I can't really imagine a time in my life where football hasn't been a part of it,' linebacker Brenna Hargrave said. The Fearless are part of the Western Women's Canadian Football League (WWCFL). 'It's a beautifully violent sport,' centre Julie Sprague said. The WWCFL is a tackle football league with six teams that started in 2011. 'I think it's really awesome to play women's tackle football and have the opportunity to find like-minded women that want to grow sport and want to help younger girls get into sport,' defensive back Amanda Schubert said. Many of the players spent their teenage years playing in the Manitoba Girls Football Association. Once they aged out, joining the Fearless was a natural next step. Story continues below advertisement 'It's also a group of 37 amazing women who are all different and come together to build a community and are there for each other,' Sprague said. Andrea Backlund, one of the team's first players, now leads the squad. 'It's growing every single year,' Backlund said. 'This team in particular has moved mountains over the last few seasons in terms of our program's progress and talent on the field.' Winnipeg could play a key role in the continued growth of women's tackle football. The Women's Football Alliance (WFA), a competitive tackle league in the United States, is expanding. The league is eyeing Manitoba as a potential market. 'There's probably 15 strong, identifiable markets. The CFL are obvious, Winnipeg leads the league in attendance so there's not too many places better than that,' Cosmos Sports & Entertainment president Cary Kaplan said. The WFA's Canadian expansion ultimately depends on the potential ownership groups. 'Growth of the women's game in any way is a great thing, allowing for more players to come and play,' Backlund said. 'I think that attention on the semi professional players we already have in our province is warranted as well.' The Fearless are celebrating their homegrown talent, while looking for ways to inspire the next generation. Toronto Argonauts to add Chris Schultz and Nick Volpe to franchise's all-time list
TORONTO – Former Toronto Argonauts Chris Schultz and Nick Volpe will be added to the CFL club's All-Time Argos list during a ceremony at BMO Field on Aug. 9. Both will be honoured posthumously when the Argos host the Ottawa Redblacks, bringing the total number of individuals on the list to 27. 'Chris Schultz wasn't just a great football player — he was a force of nature, a mentor, and a champion for so many of us who came through the locker room after him,' said Jason Pottinger, president of the Argonauts Alumni Association. 'He made you feel like you mattered, and he made the Toronto Argonauts matter to generations of fans and players alike. 'His impact went far beyond the field, and his legacy continues to inspire. This honour is a celebration of everything he gave to the game and to the people who loved him.' Schultz spent nine seasons with Toronto (1986-'94) after beginning his pro career with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. Schultz was a CFL all-star twice (1987-'88) and helped the Argos win the Grey Cup in 1991. The native of Burlington, Ont., appeared in 124 games with Toronto after being drafted by Dallas in the 1893 NFL draft. Schultz played in 21 games over three seasons with the Cowboys. After retiring as a player, Schultz found a home in radio and TV, most notably working as a football analyst with TSN. He also became a spokesman for Purolator's Tackle Hunger Program. Schultz was inducted into the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. He died March 4, 2021 at the age of 61. Volpe played for the Argos from 1949 to 1952, helping them win Grey Cup titles in 1950 and 1952. The Toronto native played a key role in the 1950 championship, affectionately dubbed the 'Mud Bowl,' kicking two field goals in a 13-0 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Volpe would return to the Argos in 1988, working in several capacities, including the head of Canadian scouting. He was part of seven Grey Cup championships with the franchise and held the distinction of never losing a Grey Cup. A member of the University of Toronto's Athletic Hall of Fame, Volpe helped the Blues win the 1948 Yates Cup. Outside of football, he worked as a superintendent with the Peel Board of Education, CFRB radio and was an isolation director for CTV football telecasts from 1972 to 1987. Volpe died Aug. 21, 2021, at the age of 95.
