Billy Bob Thornton Reflects on Reuniting with 'Hero' Sam Elliott for ‘Landman'
Filming for Landman Season 2 is well underway, and Billy Bob Thornton can hardly contain his excitement, not just for the plot, but who he gets to work with in the latest installment of the fan-favorite Taylor Sheridan series. In a May 2025 interview with Gold Derby, Billy Bob, who plays Tommy Norris on the show, revealed that he hopes to be working with Taylor and co. for the foreseeable future. "[Landman] is a show I'd like to work on for a while; I told Taylor, I said 'As long as you want me around, I'm here for this,'' he shares. 'I really love the show. I love doing it, I love playing this character, and I love the people I work with. Not only the cast, but the crew also is just stellar.' One Season 2 castmate, in particular, stands out. '[Sam Elliott] has always been a mentor and a hero of mine,' Billy Bob said in the interview. The two have previously shared the screen in 1883 and Tombstone. 'I love the guy, we have a real special relationship in real life… It's so good to see him; he lights my day up.' News of Sam joining the Landman Season 2 cast broke in April 2025, with many fans thrilled for the addition. 'Ooohhh I was hoping for another season and Sam just made me even more excited,' one fan commented on the show's Instagram reveal. 'The patch just leveled up,' someone else wrote. 'Perfect casting,' another fan concluded. Meanwhile, Ali Larter, who plays Angela Norris on the show, also appears to be happy with her newest castmate. 'Just three crows cackling,' she captioned a photo of herself with Sam and Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris). Again, fans couldn't contain their excitement over Sam's involvement in Season 2—even though his exact role remains unknown. 'Taking an already great show and making it exponentially better by adding Sam Elliott,' one fan commented. 'How epic! Sam Elliott will fit in like a glove on and off screen with Landman,' someone else wrote. 'Sam Elliott is in [the] cast! This show only gets better,' another fan exclaimed. As it currently stands, Landman Season 2 is set to premiere in November on Paramount+. In the meantime, we hope for plenty more BTS snaps of the cast. Letitia Wright on Overcoming Impostor Syndrome for Directorial Debut, Ryan Coogler Prophecy
Actress and producer Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Death on the Nile, Black Mirror, Small Axe) recently premiered her directorial debut, the short Highway to the Moon, which she also wrote, during the South London Film Festival. On Wednesday, she shared that she had to overcome 'impostor syndrome' and 'humble myself' to be ready for the directing reins. And she had to 'team up with people with the experience willing to teach me,' from the directing lingo to technical aspects, she told the inaugural SXSW London on Wednesday. She said her reaction was: 'You are mad!' But his 'prophecy' was repeated by a famous actor, whom she didn't name, within days, and it ended up coming true. In her SXSW London appearance and a wide-ranging discussion, Wright recalled how she discovered cinema and a shy teenager. 'I became a cinephile at age 13,' she shared. I watched all these films from Limewire. … I was kind of a loner.' What are her career ambitions? 'It's about legacy and purpose,' the star shared about how she approaches 'quote, unquote fame.' And she added: 'I want to leave an impact, and I want you to have a great time.' Speaking of fame, Wright highlighted that 'it takes a very strong person' to handle the tougher parts of fame, given that not all people are always respectful. 'They don't give us the grace to be human,' she said. Does Wright have any favorite movies in her career so far? 'I am grateful for the catalogue I have been able' to create in film, she said. But she mentioned her role in Danai Gurira's stage play The Convert at the Young Vic Theatre in London, where she played the character of Jekesai/Ester, as one of her favorite work experiences so far. Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage also spoke on the panel, entitled 'Women in the Room,' at the Truman Brewery in the Shoreditch neighborhood of the British capital that was part of the festival's first-ever European edition. SXSW London runs through June 7. Penske Media, the parent company of The Hollywood Reporter, is the majority stakeholder of SXSW.
