POLICE NEWS: Elkhart responds to fake bomb threat
A fake bomb threat at Walgreens, 200 S. Nappanee St., Elkhart, had Elkhart police on high alert Friday morning.
Dispatch received a call regarding a bomb threat at 9:41 a.m. from a Walgreens employee
An unknown caller allegedly told the employee that there was an explosive device in the store and demanded money on gift cards.
The Elkhart Police Department dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter.
Police, with the assistance of Elkhart County Sheriff's Department deputies, evacuated the store and conducted a search of the building. No devices or suspicious items were located inside the store. Officers determined it was not a credible threat, and that there was no danger to the public.
During the investigation, officers made contact with a bicyclist outside the store. The bicyclist was arrested on outstanding and unrelated warrants. Police said they had no information linking the man to the fake bomb threat.

Granger woman hospitalized
A man was arrested after he allegedly caused a crash while driving under the influence at 9:26 p.m. Thursday.
Austin Martinson, 31, of Elkhart, was traveling south on C.R. 1 at C.R. 10 in a 2022 Jeep Wrangler when police say he disregarded the stop sign and pulled in front of a 2018 Ford Escape driven by April Mast, 51, of Granger.
Granger was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with a possible broken hand and complaint of chest and hope pain.
Martinson was incarcerated on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and cited for disregarding a stop sign and not having insurance.
HIT-AND-RUN
• A 47-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday that he was involved in a crash near Ind. 15 and U.S. 20.
• A 58-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday that someone struck his fence and fled the scene in the 13000 block of C.R. 44 in Millersburg.
ARRESTS
Three people, a 44-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman were arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies at 9:30 p.m. Thursday on charges of possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance after police conducted a search warrant on a home in the 58000 block of River Lake Court and found weed gummies.
SEX CRIME
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into a Middlebury Township child molestation at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday.
CHILD IN NEED OF SERVICES
Elkhart County Sheriff's Office received a report of a child in need of services at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday.
BURGLARY
A 30-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 6:25 a.m. Friday a possible burglary in the 1500 block of Bashor Road.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
• A 38-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 12:27 p.m. Thursday that her vehicle was damaged in the 200 block of South Main Street.
• Concord Cell Phone Repair, 23737 U.S. 33, reported to Elkhart County deputies that a disgruntled customer knocked over a credit card processing machine, breaking it and knocking over a display case around 3:23 p.m. Wednesday.
THEFT
• An employee of Mercer Transportation reported to Goshen police at 7:40 p.m. Thursday that someone stole a license plate from a semi-trailer while it was parked on the private property of Masterbrand, 1002 Eisenhower Drive North.
• A 39-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 11:30 a.m. April 19 and 7:15 a.m. April 21 someone took her work computer from her vehicle in the 3000 block of Elizabeth Drive in Elkhart.
FRAUD
• A North Carolina police agency at 10:06 p.m. Thursday requested Goshen police to attempt to make contact with an 80-year-old Goshen woman in reference to identity theft.
• A 50-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between April 15 and 16 someone committed fraud against his mother.
• A 69-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between April 5 and April 14 fraud was committed.
• A 30-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday someone scammed him out of $9,900 using a telephone scam.

An 18-year-old man accused of causing a crash that killed a 15-year-old boy while running from police is now facing charges. Less than 10 minutes later, Miamisburg police spotted the same SUV and tried to stop it. However, the car took off again, and officers stopped the pursuit due to high speeds. Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies spotted the SUV a short time later in Jefferson Township and tried to pull it over. Parlett drove away from deputies and got it into the City of Trotwood before crashing. Parlett allegedly ran away from the scene of the crash, but was eventually arrested after a short chase. 15-year-old Jaden McClaskey was inside the SUV during the pursuits and crash. He was critically injured and died from his injuries two days later, according to Heck. Another juvenile inside the car was injured but survived. Days before the crash, Parlett was arrested for receiving stolen property after crashing a different stolen car, according to Heck. Teen accused of fleeing police multiple times, causing crash that killed 15-year-old
Jun. 4—An 18-year-old from New Lebanon is facing charges after fleeing from police officers in a stolen SUV three different times before a crash in Trotwood that killed a 15-year-old and injured a second child. Dominick Aiden Jackson Parlett was indicted on three counts of failure to comply, two counts of vehicular assault, and one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter and receiving stolen property. On Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, Moraine police saw a Ford Escape that was reported stolen earlier that day in Fairborn, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office. Officers deployed a tracking device on the SUV and tried to pull it over, but the vehicle fled. Due to the driver's dangerous driving, police called off the chase. Less than 10 minutes later, Miamisburg police found the same SUV and tried to pull it over, but it ran again, and again police called of the pursuit, this time due to dangerous speeds, the prosecutor's office said. Soon after, Montgomery County sheriff's deputies spotted the SUV in Jefferson Twp. and tried to pull it over, but for a third time the driver fled, finally crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Little Richmond Road and North Snyder Road. The driver, later identified as Parlett, fled on foot but was captured after a short chase. According to the prosecutor's office, One of the passengers in the stolen SUV, 15-year-old Jaden McClaskey, was critically injured in the crash and died two days later. Another juvenile passenger was also injured but survived. Parlett had been arrested a few days before this incident after he wrecked a different stolen vehicle, the prosecutor's office said. He is currently in the Montgomery County Jail, and is scheduled for arraignment June 24.

Ex-property management employee charged with burglarizing homes
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is now behind bars after police say he admitted to stealing from multiple homes after he was fired from a property management company almost two months ago. Mario Eddins, 38, is facing several charges, including burglary of a building, five counts of aggravated burglary, and five counts of theft of property. On April 13, patrol deputies say they were called to a home in Southeast Shelby County regarding a burglary report. The company manager for Firstkey Homes told police a refrigerator and ring camera were missing from the home. She says an employee was the last person to check the home on April 1 and that the suspects entered using the key box on the front door of the residence. During further investigation, detectives say they noticed a pattern of burglaries at Firstkey Home properties within the area. On April 7, a manager of property security for the company reported that two other homes had been burglarized the day before. However, one of the homes had a hidden camera that showed three male suspects removing appliances. Police say one of the men was identified as a former employee, Mario Eddins. Eddins was reportedly fired back in March. Bond denied for 18-year-old charged with killing 2 students An arrest warrant for aggravated burglary was issued for Eddin's arrest at that time. On April 10, detectives say they received video footage of a gray pickup truck backing into the driveway of a home on April 1 and removing a refrigerator. Detectives say they were able to identify the owner and the address registered to the pickup truck by using the flock camera system data. The safety camera system data also showed Eddins to be in the area during the time of the burglary in a black Honda Accord. On April 24, detectives executed a search warrant on the man who was driving the pickup truck. The man told detectives where he bought and stored the appliances, and described the person he bought them from. The description matched Eddins, detectives say. Detectives found Eddins at his mother's home and took him into custody. Robber crawls through Walgreens cooler to steal $5k from safe That is when detectives say Eddins confessed to six out of 15 of the Firstkey Home property burglaries. Eddins told detectives that he felt unjustly fired by the business and was 'getting back at them' for his termination. On May 6, a search warrant was executed for Eddins' phone and iPad, where detectives say they found photos of the appliances from the burglarized homes.
