MiLaysia Fulwiley reaping benefits of partnership with NBA All-Star Steph Curry

Yahoo02-04-2025

University of South Carolina's MiLaysia Fulwiley (12) drives past Tennessee Tech's Chloe Larry (21) and Keeley Carter (24) during the first half of action in the First Round game of the NCAA Tournament at the Colonial Life Arena on Friday, March 21, 2025.
MiLaysia Fulwiley was scrolling on social media late Thursday night when she saw something that nearly brought her to tears.
The South Carolina sophomore guard saw pictures and video of Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Stephen Curry walking in Chase Center wearing Fulwiley's 'Playa Society' T-shirt that shows a caricature of her in her Gamecock uniform. The shirt retails for $45.

ESPN's post of Curry wearing Fulwiley's T-shirt had more than 400,000 views.
'I was like, 'Oh my God,' I can't believe it. … When I seen him with my shirt on, it was like a dream come true,' Fulwiley said Friday after the Gamecocks' 108-48 win over Tennessee Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. 'For him to do that, it shows what a good person he is. Because he didn't have to do it just because I'm signed with his label.'
Fulwiley said Curry was supposed to have worn the T-shirt sometime last year but things never materialized. But Curry wearing it this year came at a better time as the Gamecocks go after their second straight national championship.
Fuwiley scored 15 points in 19 minutes of the Gamecocks' first-round victory.

Curry has a connection with the sophomore senior guard dating back to her high school days. She attended his invitation-only camps in California and she played for Curry's AAU team during the summer before her senior year at Keenan High School.
Fulwiley was in shock when she got the initial call from Curry to play on his AAU squad, as she already was on a successful team the previous two summers.
'I had to leave because Curry asked me. It was a no-brainer,' Fulwiley said. 'My mom was like, you have to do it. He doesn't just call anyone and ask them to play for him. My mom was like, if you play with him he might be able to give you an NIL deal, and that is exactly what happened.'

Fulwiley became the first college athlete to sign a name, image and likeness deal with the Curry Brand in March 2024.
'When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia,' Curry said in a release after he signed Fulwiley last year. 'She's changing the women's game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court.'
Fulwiley had news of her own Friday as her Curry Brand Grade MF12 'Butta' shoes dropped shortly after the Gamecocks' victory. This is her second pair of Curry Brand shoes released this year. In February, the Curry 'FamLAY' Garnet and Black shoes were released and those were the ones she wore in Friday's game.
Fulwiley also gave each of her teammates a pair of the shoes for Valentine's Day.

The new 'Butta' shoes are gold in color, representing more of Fulwiley's flashy on-court personality and her social media handle Laywitdabutter. Fulwiley said she will wear them during the NCAA Tournament.
'I wanted to do something that represented my name and my swagger,' Fulwiley said. '… I feel like I am a very bright person and stand out a lot. It is only right to have bright shoes. I love how they created them. I gave them my colorways and ideas and they put them together.'

Phillies place Bryce Harper on injured list with wrist inflammation, no timetable for return

Associated Press PITTSBURGH (AP) — The scuffling Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow Saturday when they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list because of right wrist inflammation before their game against the Pirates. Harper sat out Friday night's 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh. The move is retroactive to Friday. The two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He missed five games from May 26 to June 2 with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider. 'It's been long enough,' Harper said when asked how long his wrist has been bothering him. 'It's got to the point where I can't really function on a baseball field or anything like that. So, it's a good time for me to take some time and get it right.' Harper said he felt pain in the wrist during a large portion of last season, when he hit 30 homers while helping the Phillies win the NL East. 'It's gotten progressively worse (this season)," Harper said. 'I felt it early in the season, and I tried to play through it as long as I could.' The Phillies do not have a timetable for when Harper might be able to return. 'I'm hoping it's close to 10 days, but I really don't know,' manager Rob Thomson said. The Phillies are expected to play third baseman Alec Bohm at first while Harper is out, with utility player Edmundo Sosa taking over at third. The Phillies have lost seven of their last eight games, going from leading the NL East by two games to trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games entering Saturday. Philadelphia had won 11 of 12 games before the skid. Infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp's contract was purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old, who has yet to play in the majors, was hitting .317 with 14 homers, 55 RBIs and 11 steals in 57 games at Triple-A. Kemp was the International Player of the Month in April. The right-handed hitter was set to start at third base on Saturday against left-hander Andrew Heaney. The Phillies also recalled right-hander Daniel Robert from Lehigh Valley and optioned righty Alan Rangel. Rangel, 27, made his major league debut Friday night, allowing two runs in three innings of relief. This will be Robert's third stint of the season with the Phillies. The 30-year-old has given up one run in two-thirds of an inning over two games. ___ AP MLB: recommended

Looming Kevin Durant trade may impact Celtics offseason

One of the biggest trade dominoes set to fall this offseason is Suns forward Kevin Durant. The All-Star was shopped around by Phoenix at the trade deadline last year and with the team failing to even make the postseason last year, significant changes appear to be on the horizon in the desert. The Suns have used most of their future draft assets already so the only way for them to recoup some of them is to shop Durant this summer. The Celtics understandably aren't expected to be a Durant suitor given his age, salary and Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear. However, Boston will be keeping an eye on where Durant ends up since it would have some implications on the Celtics potential moves this offseason along with the team's future outlook. Advertisement Shams Charania of reported last week that the Spurs are showing interest in the veteran while Kelly Iko of the Athletic also pegged the Rockets as a suitor for the 36-year-old. Phoenix radio host John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM provided some extra context to those Durant rumors on Tuesday. 'The team that I heard last night in speaking to somebody pretty close to the situation with KD is keep your eye on the Spurs,' Gambadoro said on his show. 'KD could have some interest in the Spurs. That might be a good landing spot for him, with Fox and Wembanyama and an up-and-coming team on the rise that has a great defensive anchor.' The timetable of the move could be on the horizon this month as well for Durant if there is significant draft capital involved, according to Gambadoro. Advertisement 'I expect, I'm not guaranteeing this, but I would expect that a KD deal would happen right before the draft,' Gambadoro said. 'Because you'd want to include draft capital in any deal, so I think that a Kevin Durant trade would come up this month, sometime before the draft. Probably close to the draft, if it's going to happen.' Durant earns $54.7 million next season, so any trade involving him and the Suns will have to involve significant salaries being sent out by whatever team he lands with. Trades of these size sometimes open the door for a third or even fourth team to get involved. Given Boston's need to move some excess salary this offseason, they certainly could try to work their way into a deal to help move secondary pieces. The other aspect of this worth watching for Boston naturally is where Durant ends up. The Celtics will certainly be rooting for Durant to stay in the Western Conference to help keep the balance of power in the league away from the East as Boston gears up to retool around Tatum after he recovers from a torn Achilles. There have been a few reported Durant suitors (New York, Miami) in the East but Western Conference teams like Houston and San Antonio have built up more assets to use in a potential Durant deal. The Suns just hired a new head coach in Jordan Ott according to ESPN so how the team proceeds with Durant heading into the NBA Draft in three weeks will be worth monitoring from Boston's perspective. Meath strike late to draw with Armagh in All-Ireland Ladies opener

Meath and Armagh played out a thrilling 3-8 to 2-11 draw in their All-Ireland Ladies SFC opener at Pairc Tailteann. The Orchard County led by four with less than three minutes left to play before substitute Shauna Ennis hit the net for the hosts and Vikki Wall kicked an equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game. Advertisement In a meeting of the two big hitters in Group Three it was level at the break as 2-4 played 1-7. Wall hit the first goal of the game, punishing some slack Armagh defensive play on 11 minutes. Aoife McCoy replied with a major for the Ulster champions before Aoibhinn Cleary added a second home goal on the whistle. Armagh, who contested this years Division One league final, outscored their hosts 1-4 to 0-1 in the 15 minutes after half-time with Niamh Reel and McCloy on target before Kelly Mallon added a second goal to give the Orchard county a four-point lead. Meath didn't register their first second half score until the 47th minute through Emma Duggan. Advertisement Caroline O'Hanlon tapped over a free to put her side four up with less than three minutes to play. There only looked to be one winner before Ennis' goal and Wall's late leveller shared the points. Meath will go to Kildare next weekend while Armagh will host the Lilywhites in a fortnight with both sides looking to secure home advantage in the last eight.
