Residents were evacuated in a Welsh estate as a bomb disposal unit was called in to deal with a "suspicious device" found in a garden. Specialist trained personnel from the army's explosive ordnance disposal unit attended the scene near Rhys Road in Blackwood.
They were joined at the scene by Gwent Police at around 11.50am on Sunday, June 1. The device was examined and destroyed near the scene by the army. Police say a cordon was put in place as a precaution.
Images from the scene show police vehicles and officers on a back lane near the garden where the device was found, as well as police tape in the area.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: "We were called at around 11.50am on Sunday, June 1 after a suspicious device was found in a garden near Rhys Road, Blackwood.
"Specialist trained personnel from the army's explosive ordnance disposal unit (EOD) attended to assist our officers with the examination and disposal of the object.
"Nearby houses were evacuated and cordon put in place as a preliminary caution.
"The suspicious device was destroyed near the scene by the army's explosive ordnance disposal unit."

Ethan was found on the A465 between Rhymney and Dowlais next to an overturned quadbike in the early hours of Saturday, May 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have arrested five people as part of their investigation into the crash, one of whom has been arrested on suspicion of murder. In a tribute to Ethan, his family said he had the "kindest of souls" and was the "funniest of characters". "Ethan had the kindest of souls, the biggest of hearts and enough love to give to absolutely anyone he came across in life. He was the funniest of characters and always managed to light up a room. "He will forever live on through his sisters Eleanor and Isabella with our family remembering him every second of every day. Our family is truly heartbroken at the news, a young life taken far too soon with so much ahead of him. Officers from Gwent Police previously arrested two people from Merthyr in connection with the crash. A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and driving whilst unfit through drink and driving whilst unfit through drugs and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. They have been released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue. A further three arrests have now been made, police confirmed. A Tredegar man, 43, and a Pontypridd man, 34, were both arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender and are currently in police custody. A 41-year-old man from Merthyr was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. He was released on conditional bail as enquiries continue for this investigation, but he was recalled to prison in connection with an unrelated enquiry. Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with relevant information to come forward. Officers found a burnt-out BMW in the Dowlais area during the investigation, which they still believe may have been involved in the collision. Detective Chief Inspector for Gwent Police, Matthew Edwards, the senior investigating officer, said on Tuesday: "We're keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the A465 between the hours of 2am and 5am on Saturday morning, especially motorists with dashcam, as they could have details that might assist our enquiries. Firefighters have seen a 483% increase in the number of wildfires in south Wales compared with 2024, after responding to more than 900 incidents so far this year. They said this year had been "incredibly challenging" so far due to dry and warm weather and a "significant" number of fires believed to have been deliberately January and May, 928 wildfires broke out in the region covered by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS), compared with the same period in 2024 which saw only were 418 wildfires reported between 1 January and 31 May 2023, and 658 in 2022, the fire and rescue team said. The 17-year-old was travelling along Twyncarn Road in Pontywaun at around 6pm when he was hit by a car. Officers from Gwent Police were called to the scene alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who took the boy to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening. A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on Twyncarn Road, Pontywaun, at around 5.55pm on Wednesday, June 4. "The collision involved a pushbike and red Peugeot 306.
