Man detained after car collides with pedestrians during Premier League parade
Emergency services descended on Water Street after Merseyside Police were contacted just after 6pm on Monday with reports of the incident.
The car stopped at the scene and a man was detained.
The Prime Minister and the Home Secretary are being kept updated about the events, the PA news agency understands.
People were injured in the incident, with images capturing someone being taken away on a stretcher and a man walking with his arm around a police officer for support.
Footage showed police cordons in place around the heavily littered road, with a large police presence, ambulances and a fire engine also at the scene.
A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: 'We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.
'Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.'
Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson, whose seat includes the city centre, said: 'I sincerely hope all those involved are safe and get home to their loved ones soon.'
While a spokesman for Liverpool City Council confirmed the local authority is liaising with police about the incident.
Liverpool FC held an open-top bus parade to celebrate its Premier League triumph, with fans lining the streets along the 10-mile route.
Councillor John Hughes estimated in excess of one million people were attending, beating the 750,000 present for the 2019 Champions League parade.
Hundreds ignored police advice not to climb on structures – or adhere to the 'no pyro' request – as every vantage point, ranging from multi-storey car parks, scaffolding, rooftops, on top of petrol stations, traffic lights and lamp posts, was taken.

"I want to get on with my life," he said, per the Sun. "I'm trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it's not a new long-term career." During his tenure as a referee in England, Coote presided over 112 Premier League matches and 143 Championship fixtures, reports the Mirror. He also officiated the Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle at Wembley in 2023. Madeleine, who was aged three at the time, disappeared in 2007 while on holiday with her family in the resort of Praia da Luz after her parents went out to dinner and left her sleeping in a room with her toddler twin siblings, reports PA According to The Sun, the new searches will involve radar equipment which can scan beneath the ground, with the focus being on trenches near where the McCann family was staying at the resort. A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We are aware of the searches being carried by the BKA (German federal police) in Portugal as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. "The Metropolitan Police Service is not present at the search, we will support our international colleagues where necessary." Around 30 German police officers, including forensic experts, will be starting the search on Tuesday, with Portuguese police also on the ground, according to reports. On Monday, Portuguese police reportedly closed off dirt roads in the area where searches will be taking place while tents have been set up in the nearby Atalaia area, near a cottage once lived in by Christian Brueckner, who German prosecutors say is the prime suspect in Madeleine's disappearance. Brueckner, who is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the rape of an elderly woman at her home in Praia da Luz in 2005, has denied any involvement. Any evidence seized by the Policia Judiciaria will be passed to the German federal police. They last carried out searches in the country in 2023 near the Barragem do Arade reservoir, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz. Brueckner, who spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017, had photographs and videos of himself near the reservoir. It had previously been searched in 2008, when Portuguese lawyer Marcos Aragao Correia paid for specialist divers to search it after he claimed to have been tipped off by criminal contacts that Madeleine's body was there. British police were later given permission to examine scrubland near where she vanished in 2014. Last month, Madeleine's family marked the 18th anniversary of her disappearance, describing her as "beautiful and unique" before her 22nd birthday, and expressing their determination to keep searching. A statement from her parents Kate and Gerry McCann and the family said: "The years appear to be passing even more quickly and whilst we have no significant news to share, our determination to 'leave no stone unturned' is unwavering. Kirkby house crossbow attack: Man, 43, due to appear in court
A man has been charged after a crossbow was fired at a house in Knowsley, police have front door and a window of the property on Madryn Avenue in Kirkby were hit in the attack, which happened shortly after 09:00 BST on Sunday, said Merseyside Spencer, from Eastfield Walk in Westvale, has been charged with threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place and criminal who said no-one was injured in the incident, confirmed that 43-year-old Mr Spencer was due to appear in court later.
