Jacksonville police make arrest in 2024 double murder

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday the arrest of a man they said is responsible for shooting two people to death in April 2024.
Devonne Rivers, 20, is accused of killing two men on April 7, 2024. Police were called to the 7000 block of Garden Street that day for a car blocking the road.

Patrol officers arrived and found a vehicle in the roadway with multiple bullet holes. Inside the vehicle, they found the victims, Travis Williams, 45, and Anton Brown, 40, shot to death, police said.
Rivers was arrested Monday after being identified as the suspect, police said.

A Columbia County deputy doing a wellness check on a driver sleeping in his car on the side of the road ended with the seizure of over 45 pounds of marijuana. A concerned citizen called to report the sleeping man at about 8:14 a.m. Friday on the side of the road near the lanes of travel at US-441 near SE Happy Valley Glen, a Columbia County news release states. Deputies arrived and approached the vehicle to check the wellbeing of the driver and detected a strong odor of alcohol, the news release states. They also saw vomit on the car and the driver, the news release states. The driver was identified by a California driver's license as Andres Murillomota. He gave deputies verbal consent to search his vehicle, the news release states. ' ... Deputies located two suitcases inside,' the news release states. 'The combined content of these suitcases when opened revealed over 45 pounds of vacuum packed marijuana.' Sheriff's deputies captured three people they say attempted to sneak in drugs, phones and food to inmates at the Fulton County Jail South Annex. Malachi Abdul-Baqi, Matthew Abdul-Baqi and Asia Henry each face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony and interference of government property. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A deputy found the three suspects Wednesday after discovering a hole in the fence during a perimeter patrol, according to the arrest affidavit. He said he saw the three people lying down near the opening, along with a pair of bolt cutters. RELATED STORY: Drugs, cheeseburgers: Raid inside Fulton County Jail reveals contraband operation, officials say They were taken into custody, and a bag they were carrying contained contraband including 70 grams of marijuana, cigarettes, cell phones and phone chargers, the investigator said. Other items included cheeseburgers, candy and vapes. They were held in Fulton County Jail and appeared in court Thursday. Malachi Abdul-Baqi and Henry each received bonds totaling $30,000, Matthew Abdul-Baqi's bond totaled $25,000. Henry posted bond Thursday, according to jail records. All three were also charged with purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana, and Malachi Abdul-Baqi and Henry received an additional charge of possession of tools for commission of a crime. A woman is facing multiple theft charges after Neptune Beach police said she broke into a car and stole packages from a porch. Kaitlyn Thurston, 31, remained in Duval County jail Friday morning after being arrested Thursday. Neptune Beach police they received a call Sunday from a resident reporting a car burglary. Later in the day, another resident reported packages were stolen from a nearby porch. Another person said the person tried to steal a bike from their home, but they were caught on surveillance video, police said. Police arrested Thurston at her home.
