Dinesh Karthik Calls This RCB Star 'Biggest Eye-Opener' For Him In Life. It's Not Virat Kohli

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) mentor Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on skipper Rajat Patidar for how he maintained his down-to-earth demeanour even after becoming the captain of the side, stating that the 32-year-old "has been exactly the same that he was before becoming the captain". Ahead of the IPL 2025, RCB stunned everyone by naming Patidar as captain. This is his first time leading an IPL team while his previous leadership experience was leading Madhya Pradesh to the final of the 2024/25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
'Rajat Patidar has been the biggest eye-opener for me in life. Because when people suddenly get a little bit of adulation, power, they tend to change. It's normal. Their behavioural pattern, the way they kind of interact. Somewhere, something will show. But with Rajat Patidar, what a guy he is. For someone who is a captain of RCB, and today he calls the shots, he has been exactly the same that he was before becoming the captain, Rajat," said Karthik on the second episode of RCB's Journey to the Finale.
RCB have stormed into the IPL final after nine long years following a clinical eight-wicket win against Punjab Kings. Their bowling unit came together to dish out an absolute masterclass, bowling out the PBKS for just 101 in 14.1 overs. With the bat, despite a challenge from Kyle Jamieson, RCB rode on a stunning knock from Phil Salt, who smacked a 27-ball 56 that helped them chase the target in just 10 overs and seal the final berth.
Director of Cricket Mo Bobat also spoke on Patidar's composed approach and collaborative leadership style and said, "I think one of the most impressive things that Rajat has shown is that, and he does this as a personality and character anyway, anyone who knows him knows he's incredibly calm.
"And it's been good to see him use the people around him, whether that's Jitesh as vice-captain, or Virat as a senior player, Krunal as another senior player, or even someone like Josh Hazlewood."
Reflecting on the campaign, Bobat spoke about the foundation of the team's success and the momentum they built early in the season.
"We've had a good amount of consistency this season. We were faced with some challenges up front going to those away venues, and that's where we started. We said to the boys, we want to make a statement start, and I think winning those first few games away from home, places like Chennai and Mumbai, I think, was real confidence for the boys.
"I think that was incredibly helpful. We struggled a little bit at home to begin with, but when we managed to figure out how to win at home, that also gave the boys a lot of confidence, and then from that point onwards, we got on a bit of a roll.
"Getting to the season where lots of people have won one of the match awards is a good reflection of that, loads of people contributing with bat and ball was something that we really wanted as a focus. In general, we've had a really tight group off the field. It's been great seeing them gel," he said.

"Cannot Be Silent": BCCI's Stern Signal After RCB Official Is Arrested Over Stampede At IPL Title Celebration

What was supposed to be a glorious moment for Royal Challengers Bengaluru has turned into its darkest after what happened a day after the side's first-ever IPL title win. After ending an 18-year drought, RCB received a hero's welcome in Bengaluru but the fanfare turned disastrous as 11 people lost their lives while close to 50 were injured. Four people have been arrested in connection with the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. According to the police, Nikhil Sosale, a top marketing official of the RCB, was among those arrested. He was on his way to Mumbai when he was arrested from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, at around 6.30am. BCCI is now thinking to introduce guidelines for victory celebrations. "At some stage BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be a silent spectator," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz. "It was a private affair of RCB but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future." Earlier, Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir said that road shows should not be held at all after such victories. "I think the lives of people are far more important and I will continue to say. We can be a little bit careful of not holding these kinds of roadshows and can probably have them closed doors or something like this in a stadium," India coach Gautam Gambhir said. "When I used to play, I didn't believe much in roadshows. I don't believe in them today and I don't believe in them in the future. Winning is important, celebrations are important, but more important than that is the life of any person. So if we are not prepared, or if we cannot handle the crowd in that way, then might as well these roadshows should not take place." India's star batter Smriti Mandhana expressed her grief at the death of 11 people in a stampede on Wednesday near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Mandhana posted on her Instagram account, "Heartbroken to hear about the lives lost in Bengaluru. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones. Please stay safe, everyone."

RCB's first IPL championship was especially meaningful for the team, as it gave experienced player Virat Kohli his first IPL trophy in 18 years. Clarke namedrops Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma while discussing MS Dhoni's IPL future: 'His retirement will be a huge loss'

The 2025 Indian Premier League season ended with Royal Challengers Bengaluru ending an 18-year wait for the title. Rajat Patidar's RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in a close final, thus lifting the trophy for the first time in the franchise's history. The season also saw a highly improved outing from the Mumbai Indians, who qualified for the playoffs under Hardik Pandya's captaincy; they lost to PBKS in the Qualifier 2. However, the fortunes didn't improve for the Chennai Super Kings, as they ended the campaign with a wooden spoon, registering only four losses. All three franchises – RCB, MI, and CSK – feature three of the stalwarts of Indian cricket. While Virat Kohli made an efficient contribution to RCB's title-winning run, Rohit Sharma, too, smashed four half-centuries in the season including a player-of-the-match performance in the Eliminator. For MS Dhoni, however, the season was turbulent, as he was forced to take over the captaincy midway through the campaign after an injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Throughout the season, many stated that the 2025 season could be the last we see Dhoni in CSK colours, as the franchise faced heat for outdated tactics and poor performances with the bat. However, former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes that Dhoni is the 'face' of CSK and it is important that he returns for the next season. Speaking on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke also spoke about Kohli and Rohit's IPL futures in the same breath. 'I think MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in next year's IPL. MS Dhoni is massive. Every time Chennai plays, even in away games, there are more Chennai fans than any other fan. Sponsors, they are there because of MS Dhoni. The fans, they are there because of MS Dhoni,' said Clarke. "He is the king of that franchise. They want him to keep playing and I dont think people realise the impact. When he decides to retire, it will be a huge loss to the franchise," he added. It wasn't a surprise that Clarke also namedropped Kohli and Rohit while speaking on Dhoni's future. Both Indian batters called time on their Test careers last month, leaving the cricketing fraternity in shock. Kohli's retirement was particularly surprising for many, as experts and fans argued that the batter was supremely fit and only needed to rejig his shortcoming against the deliveries outside off-stump.
