PGA Tour Golfer Withdraws Before First Round at Travelers Championship
PGA Tour Golfer Withdraws Before First Round at Travelers Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Multiple PGA tour golfers were suffering from injuries and there were concerns about them going forward into the tournament. Seems like one of those fears became a reality. Advertisement Just before the first tee shots rang out at TPC River Highlands for the 2025 Travelers Championship, PGA Tour golfer Brian Campbell has officially withdrawn from the event. Campbell, who was suffering from a shoulder injury, has decided he needs more time to recover. Campbell's withdrawal created an opening that was swiftly filled by Davis Riley, the next alternate in the draw. Riley last appeared in the U.S. Open but missed the cut, carding rounds of 78-77. Advertisement With his withdrawal, the three other PGA Tour players—Alex Noren, Jason Day, and Hideki Matsuyama—who chose to continue despite lingering injuries might also withdraw at the last minute to avoid aggravating their conditions. Fans are expecting an exciting first two rounds in the event, with defending champion Scottie Scheffler and U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun teeing off together. Rory McIlroy is also in contention with renewed excitement heading into the tournament. He struggled a bit at the major but seems pretty confident about the Championship. During a press conference on Wednesday, he revealed how good mental and physical preparation is critical before tournaments. Advertisement "Yeah, I think it's important to take care of yourself physically and mentally, especially when you play these big events and there's a lot of pressure and expectation. It is important to get away from all that as well." Related: Scottie Scheffler Sends Message on J.J.
