SQUAD NEWS: Long-term injury returnee and possible debutant in Wire's 21

Yahoo16-05-2025

CONNOR Wrench has been named in a Warrington Wolves matchday squad for the first time in almost a year.
The 23-year-old has completed his recovery from his second ACL injury in as many years, which he sustained during a home victory over Huddersfield Giants on July 5 last year.
Head coach Sam Burgess hinted during his pre-match press conference that Wrench is unlikely to feature this week but with numbers stretched in the outside-backs, the academy graduate is expected to play imminently.
There is also a potential senior debut for centre Zack Gardner - the son of Wire's head of performance Ade Gardner - after he too was named in Burgess' 21-man squad.
Winger Matty Ashton became The Wire's latest and most crushing injury blow this week after he was ruled out for the rest of 2025 after damaging the ACL and MCL in his right knee during the Challenge Cup semi-final victory over Leigh Leopards.
Second-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon is named in the squad but is expected to miss the game having aggravated a rib injury during the same game while winger Josh Thewlis is out under concussion protocol having failed a head injury assessment.
George Williams (ankle) and Danny Walker (knee) remain absent while there is no place in the squad for Zane Musgrove, with fellow prop Max Wood drafted into the 21.
Jordy Crowther, Ben Currie, Matt Dufty, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Zack Gardner, James Harrison, Adam Holroyd, Toby King, Oli Leyland, Arron Lindop, Joe Philbin, Sam Powell, Stefan Ratchford, Dan Russell, Marc Sneyd, Rodrick Tai, Jake Thewlis, Paul Vaughan, Max Wood, Connor Wrench, Luke Yates
Wakefield could welcome former Wire winger Matty Russell back into contention this week as well as forward Seth Nikotemo.
Trinity have themselves been hit by injuries with the likes of Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Matty Storton and Olly Russell among those missing.
Their 21-man squad is unchanged from the one ex-Warrington boss Daryl Powell picked from for their Magic Weekend victory over neighbours Castleford Tigers a fortnight ago.
🏉 UNCHANGED!! That's right Daryl Powell has named an unchanged 21-man squad to take on Warrington Wolves this Sunday!! 👉🏻 https://t.co/g0kJoNHOPT#UpTheTrin pic.twitter.com/ybkF8MRTWD

Indiana Fever Urged to Trade for Cameron Brink's Teammate Amid Caitlin Clark's Injury

Indiana Fever Urged to Trade for Cameron Brink's Teammate Amid Caitlin Clark's Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Since Caitlin Clark was ruled out due to a left quad strain, the Indiana Fever have struggled, dropping their third straight and falling to 2-4 on the season. Advertisement Clark is expected to be out until at least June 10, when Indiana takes on the Atlanta Dream. But the Fever dealt more injuries to the guard position in Friday's loss to the Connecticut Sun, as both Sydney Colson (left leg) and Sophie Cunningham (right ankle) left with injuries. The Los Angeles Sparks are dealing with a few injuries of their own. Cameron Brink is still recovering from an ACL tear during her rookie season, while Rickea Jackson has been ruled out for the past few games due to personal reasons. Outside of Clark and Angel Reese, Jackson was one of the top rookies from the 2024 draft class, averaging 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds last year. But in three games in 2025, she has struggled, tallying 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. With Jackson sidelined for a few games, many WNBA fans believe she may be having internal issues with the Sparks. Some are even calling for her to be traded to the Fever, who could use the help. They shared their thoughts on X. Advertisement "Just get Rickea to the Fever, please," one fan tweeted. "The Twitter meltdown that'll occur when Rickea Jackson is traded to the Fever will be legendary," another tweeted. "@IndianaFever tap in on the Rickea story and I don't care who y'all bribe, but bring her to the Fever😭😭," a fan tweeted. "trying to think of a rickea trade package to the fever," another tweeted. "Hol up Rickea Jackson wants a trade. Make the call Indiana Fever we need her," a fan tweeted. "RICKEA JACKSON TO THE INDIANA FEVER," added a sixth. Stefon Diggs returns to Patriots practice for first time since yacht controversy

Stefon Diggs was back at New England Patriots practice on Monday for the first time since his absence last week made waves following viral video of him at a yacht party. Diggs waved to media with his helmet on and jogged onto the field after delivering a brief greeting to reporters. Advertisement "Nice to see y'all," Diggs said toward the multiple cameras that were trained on him. Diggs then ran drills with his teammates as a limited practice participant. His appearance at Patriots practice was his first since his notable absence last week. Diggs showing up or not showing up to voluntary organized team activities generally wouldn't garner much attention. There's no holdout here. The veteran wide receiver is playing on a three-year, $69 million contract that he signed to join the Patriots this offseason. But his absence arrived after multiple videos from Memorial Day weekend surfaced of Diggs at a yacht party. One of those videos features Diggs surrounded by women and handing out a baggie with unidentified contents. Advertisement As Diggs was absent from practice on Wednesday, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel faced a question regarding Diggs and "a certain substance that people are guessing what is and what isn't." Here's how Vrabel responded: "It's something that we're aware of," Vrabel said. "And obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field. And we're hoping with our time here on the field today and that when we don't have a script and we're on the call periods that we're making great decisions. "And so the message will be the same for all our players, that we're trying to make great decisions. And any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club." Vrabel was true to his word. Any conversations that he had with Diggs have remained private. There's been no light shed on contents of the bag that Diggs handed out and no further word from the Patriots about what was discussed between Diggs and team management. The NFL has not commented on any potential league discipline. And other than his brief greeting to reporters on Monday, Diggs has not spoken with media since the yacht party. Advertisement Diggs, 31, will play his first season in New England in 2025. Diggs played a single season with the Houston Texans in 2024 after previously playing for the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings. He's coming off an ACL tear that limited him to eight games last season. Diggs made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons in Buffalo from 2020-2023. Diggs is reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery and on track to be ready for the start of the regular season, where he'll join an offense featuring second-year quarterback Drake Maye. As of Wednesday, all signs pointed to things being back to normal at Patriots practice as Diggs integrates himself with his new team.

Oliver Kahn pulls out of Bordeaux takeover talks

Oliver Kahn has pulled out his formal bid to take over fourth-tier side Girondins de Bordeaux. The ex-Germany international goalkeeper and his investment partners filed a 'plan de cession' last week with the court-appointed administrators and legal officials handling Bordeaux's ongoing financial crisis under the mandate of owner and club president Gérard Lopez. The submission arrived on the eve of a critical Commercial Court hearing in which the current club leadership would have presented its own proposal aimed at ensuring the club's survival. 'This winter, I decided to consider becoming the new owner of the Girondins de Bordeaux', Kahn wrote in a letter published by Sud Ouest. 'In January 2025, I submitted a formal offer to the current owner, later accompanied by proof of funds, and then presented an offer to the court administrator.' The former Bayern Munich CEO then adds he would not inject the €50m sum he previously committed to his takeover bid in light of the financial, operational and legal information shared with his investment partners. Advertisement 'It is therefore with great disappointment, despite extensive preparatory work and rigorous analysis, that we have made the carefully considered decision not to pursue our takeover plan', Kahn said, extending his thanks to Bordeaux's local authorities and the club's fans.
