Jharkhand Jaguar jawan injured in Maoist-triggered IED blast during search operation in Chaibasa
RANCHI: A Jharkhand Jaguar jawan was injured in a Maoist-triggered IED blast on Monday and was airlifted to Ranchi for better medical treatment.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Marangponga forests under the jurisdiction of the Chhota Nagara police station in Chaibasa. The condition of the injured jawan is stable and out of danger, they said.
Sources stated that a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and the CRPF's CoBRA battalion were conducting a search operation to trace the squad of wanted Maoist leader Anal Da.
'Manoj Kumar Damai accidentally stepped on an IED planted by the Maoists, causing it to explode,' stated the official communique from Police Headquarters in Ranchi. The incident took place at around 10.45 am on Monday, it said.
After the incident, the forces intensified their operation in the area.
Earlier, on April 12, Jharkhand Jaguar jawan Sunil Dhan had been seriously injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in the heavily forested border area between the Chotanagra and Jaraikela police stations in West Singhbhum. That incident also occurred during a search operation in the Chhota Nagara police station area.
Notably, several Maoist commanders are active with their squads in the Saranda forests of Chaibasa and have planted thousands of IEDs to check security forces from entering the jungles, due to which regular incidents of blasts are taking place during operations.

RAIPUR Another senior Maoist rank cadre was killed in an encounter on Friday, that broke out in same area where a central committee member Sudhakar was neutralized on Thursday in forests of Bijapur district. The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday being carried out by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras took place the whole day and after the guns fell silent, security forces recovered body of Maoist Bhaskar, a 45-year-old, who carried cash bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana. Bhaskar was a Special Zonal Committee member of Telangana State Committee and was reportedly operating in the dense forests of Indravati National Park — a known Maoist stronghold. Speaking to TOI, Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj said, 'As part of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the National Park area of Bijapur district, security forces have recovered the dead body of another male cadre. Preliminary identification indicates that the recovered body is that of Bhaskar alias Mailarapu Adellu, a member of the Telangana State Committee.' IG stated that an AK-47 rifle along with other explosives, weapons, and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. 'Bhaskar, a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana, was the Secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the CPI (Maoist) outfit,' IG said. In the same operation on June 5, security forces recovered body of Central Committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar along with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation in the area is still ongoing to trace other Maoist cadres in the nearby area. Day after Naxal leader Sudhakar's death, encounter breaks out in same area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
BIJAPUR: A day after top Naxal leader Sudhakar was eliminated by security forces in Indravati National Park area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, an encounter broke out in the same area on Friday, an official said. The encounter is part of the same anti-Naxal operation underway since Wednesday by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) as well as the CRPF's specialised unit CoBRA, he added. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras is underway, the official said, adding further details were awaited. Senior Maoist leader Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, who had a bounty of Rs 40 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district on Thursday. Originally hailing from Andhra Pradesh, the 67-year-old Sudhakar was involved in indoctrination and radicalization of youth and also responsible for numerous Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the death of civilians and security personnel, police said. The killing of Sudhakar, a member of the Maoists' Central Committee, comes a fortnight after CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70) was neutralised by security forces in the Bastar region. Basavaraju was gunned down in Narayanpur on May 21.

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 6 (ANI): Just a day after security forces neutralised a top naxal leader, Sudhakar (alias Gautam), in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai departed for Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the successful operations to finish naxalism, the path forward, while also discussing the state's development. CM Sai will be visiting Delhi today and tomorrow (June 7). 'I am visiting Delhi for two days. I will return tomorrow. I will meet the Prime Minister and discuss the development of Chhattisgarh...I will also brief him about our fight against Naxalism and the successes we have had,' CM Sai said just before departing for his flight. While hailing the recent successful anti-Naxal operation, which neutralised Gautam, a Central Committee Member (CCM), the Chief Minister saluted the jawans for their bravery in carrying out such operations. 'Operations are going on continuously, and we are achieving success. Yesterday, as well, we had a success. One Central Committee Member (CCM) was neutralised by our jawans yesterday. We salute their bravery,' he told reporters. This is the second such operations by security forces which has led to the neutralisation of a top Naxal leader. On June 5, officials confirmed that the body of Gautam was found, and on May 21, just over three weeks ago, the body of Basava Raju was recovered. A Central Committee Politburo member and CPI (Maoist) General Secretary, he was widely known as the 'backbone of the naxal movement.' Bastar's Inspector General P Sundarraj highlighted the two successes of security forces earlier today. 'Based on inputs, the STF, DRG, and CoBRA joint teams were sent for operation. During the operation, exchange of fire between security forces and Naxals took place multiple times. After the exchange of fire, during the search, the body of a Maoist and an AK-47 weapon and a large amount of explosive materials and other arms and ammunition were recovered,' the IG said. According to officials, Gautam was a senior Maoist leader responsible for various violent incidents that resulted in the deaths of numerous innocent tribal civilians and of security personnel. His death marks a major success for the security forces and is a significant blow to the Maoist leadership, particularly in the Dandakaranya region. His neutralisation is expected to cause a considerable setback to the already weakening strength of the banned and outlawed Maoist organisation. 186 Maoist cadres have been killed in counter-insurgency operations across the Bastar Range in 2025 so far. During the period 2024-2025, more than 403 Maoist cadres have been neutralised and their bodies recovered in the Bastar Range following multiple encounters between Maoists and security forces, according to officials.
