Woman charged with murder after children killed in Harristown house fire
A woman has been charged with murder after a horror house fire that killed three children in regional Queensland.
Fire tore through a home on Merritt St, Harristown at about 12.30am on May 7.
A body - believed to be of a nine-year-old boy - was discovered inside.
Two girls, aged 4 and 7, were among the six people who managed to escape from the blaze and were both rushed to hospital with critical injuries.
Both girls died in hospital.
A 34-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy managed to escape the fire.
The 34-year-old man underwent surgery for serious injuries to his arm, while the 18-year-old man and 11-year-old boy were treated for minor injuries.
A 36-year-old woman, who was also critically injured in the fire, was transported to hospital under police guard.
She has since been charged with three counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of arson. Her case is due to be mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

'I didn't like the way it played out at all. I think it was unfair to a lot of people,' Nicks said. 'But no, I didn't get any more involved than checking in with Taylor, for example, to make sure he knows I'm proud of what he's done since an unacceptable moment four years ago. 'He's done a lot of work on educating himself, probably more than anyone at the footy club. But our whole footy club has improved off the back of that (incident). 'I'd prefer not to talk further on it because it's not something I've got involved in, other than touching base with one or two people.' Nicks wouldn't be drawn on whether the club was chasing Wanganeen-Milera, who could be in line for a seven-figure payday for his new deal. 'We don't talk about players from other footy clubs,' Nicks said. 'It's something we've shown a lot of respect around over the years. It's just not a space we go into.' But Nicks conceded talk around contracts was hard to avoid and 'part of the deal' for players.

Man allegedly armed with blowtorch threatens to set alight gas cylinders at Bunnings
A man has been charged after he allegedly threatened to set fire to gas cylinders with a blowtorch during a wild rampage at a Bunnings store in Perth. Officers from the Tactical Response Group and other emergency crews swarmed the Cannington store on Wednesday evening, after the man allegedly armed himself with a blowtorch and threatened to set alight the gas cylinders outside the store. Police allege the man had been seen acting suspiciously inside the Bunnings just before the incident. The TRG and emergency crews evacuated the store and set up a 200m exclusion zone as officers tried to negotiate with the man. Footage from the incident shows the man suddenly fall as several TRG officers approached and pinned him to the ground. Firefighters can be seen spraying water across the scene as more officers swarm in to control the man. A witness on holiday from Germany told The West Australian newspaper a person who was there earlier said he put the gas cylinders on fire. 'You could hear gunshots, but it was different from normal ones,' Nelly Funk told the newspaper. 'The firefighters were spraying water on him. 'I was shocked, when I heard the police it was quite a shock for me – we are actually from Germany, and it's our first month here.' A 42-year-old man from Kelmscott in Perth's east has been charged with burglary, stealing, being armed to cause fear and endangering life. He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday.

WA nurse Gary Shane Stevenson deregistered for repeated theft of painkillers
A former West Australian nurse has been deregistered for repeatedly stealing controlled medication, which led to patients being deprived of the pain relief they were prescribed. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's (NMBA) application to the WA State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) found Gary Shane Stevenson stole medication 34 times in eight months. Tribunal documents show that between September 2021 and April 2022 Stevenson administered less pain relief than prescribed to multiple patients at Dongara Health Centre in the state's Midwest. In other instances painkillers were removed from the safe and incorrectly recorded as being for a patient, but were not prescribed or administered. The SAT documents state that in October 2021 patient JD went to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain, leading to a telehealth doctor prescribing morphine to be administered via a drip. The prescription stated JD was to be given morphine in 2.5 milligram increments four times overnight, but the records showed the patient only received three doses. At the same time an additional 10mg of morphine went missing from the safe. On another occasion Stevenson administered less morphine than prescribed to patient LW and later took an extra 10 milligrams of morphine from the safe, which was never prescribed or received by LW, and later forged the records. The tribunal documents stated that Stevenson "misappropriated" 240mg of morphine and also took more than 100 tablets of a prescription-only painkiller commonly known as Panadeine Forte. Stevenson held a senior position as clinical nurse at the Dongara Health Service and mostly worked in the emergency department. He was frequently the highest-ranking nurse on duty and he was responsible for a monthly audit of the drug registers. In April 2022 the NMBA received a tip-off about the mishandling of medication and that July Stevenson's nursing registration was suspended. In October 2022 he resigned from the clinic. In multiple instances Stevenson ignored a WA Country Health Service (WACHS) policy requiring a second professional to monitor the recording, administration or disposal of certain high-risk medications. Tribunal documents state that Stevenson "made acknowledgements" of his misconduct and that his actions had been "below the standard" expected of a registered nurse. Stevenson's nursing registration was cancelled at the tribunal on Tuesday after almost three years of suspension. The years of suspension were considered when handing down the disqualification and Stevenson cannot apply to re-register as a nurse for another 18 months. He has also been ordered to pay $5,000 towards the NMBA's legal costs. WACHS acknowledged the SAT's decision and emphasised that the "former employee" had not been associated with the organisation for years. "The individual concerned has not been a WA Country Health Service or WA Health employee since 2022," WACHS said.
