Delhi: Locals attack shopkeeper over alleged cow meat sale, meat sent for forensic test
New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): A grocery shopkeeper was allegedly assaulted by locals after a 15-year-old boy filed a complaint accusing the shop of selling suspected cow meat in Vijay Nagar, Delhi.
According to officials, the incident came to light following a PCR call received regarding the sale of suspected cow meat at a shop located in Vijay Nagar Double Storey, under the jurisdiction of Model Town Police Station.
The complainant, identified as Simar, a 15-year-old boy and resident of Vijay Nagar, alleged that he had purchased meat from the shop for Rs 400 per kg and suspected it to be cow meat.
The shop was owned by Chaman Kumar, 44, son of Mukund Prasad, and a resident of Kaushik Enclave, Burari.
After the allegation spread, members of the public allegedly manhandled the shopkeeper, police confirmed.
The police have informed that the victim has been provided medical assistance and his medical examination is currently underway.
As part of the enquiry, the police said that they seized meat samples from the shop and sent them for forensic analysis to confirm whether the meat was of cow origin.
The police teams also collected and reviewed CCTV footage from the area to verify the sequence of events and identify those involved in the assault.
The police said the situation was under control and that no further violence had occurred after the initial incident.
'Once the forensic report and full enquiry are complete, appropriate legal action will be taken as per the findings and provisions of law,' the statement added. (ANI)

Fake SEBI documents, nomadic operation: How ex-banker from Andhra led share trading racket before Gurgaon police pull plug
The Gurgaon cyber police, on June 1, arrested a former banker from Andhra Pradesh and four others for allegedly running a share trading racket during a raid at a hotel in Punjab's Zirakpur. The accused have been identified as Chinta Manoj Kumar, 38, a former HDFC Bank manager from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh; Gurvinder and Ravi from Jind, Haryana; Rohit Kumar from Hisar, Haryana; and Akshay from Una, Himachal Pradesh. The five allegedly swindled at least Rs 5 lakh from a woman by luring her into share trading investments with promises of high profits using fake Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI)-registered company documents. The accused also provided mule bank accounts to cyber fraudsters, according to the police. On March 18, the complainant reported to the Gurgaon cybercrime police station (west) that on January 13, 2025, she received a WhatsApp message with a link from an unknown number. The accused allegedly sent emails and forged SEBI documents to gain the victim's trust, convincing her to install a mobile app. Through the app, the victim was allegedly persuaded to make multiple transactions, resulting in financial loss. A team supervised by Priyanshu Dewan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (cybercrime), investigated the case and made the arrests. Speaking to The Indian Express, Inspector Sandeep, who led the operation, said, 'It is their greed for making money that makes them enter this cyberfraud and lure others into it. We are looking into and investigating their role in cyberfrauds in other states as well.' He said it took time to nab the accused as they would frequently change their base of operations to avoid authorities. 'He (Manoj) had hired the other accused through a social media site,' said Inspector Sandeep. After the arrest, Manoj, who allegedly quit his bank job citing work pressure, and Akshay were remanded in two-day police custody Monday and sent in judicial custody Wednesday. Gurvinder, Ravi, and Rohit were also sent in judicial custody. The police recovered seven mobile phones, two laptops, and two current account kits with a daily transaction limit of Rs 5 crore from the accused. Investigations revealed that Rs 4.4 lakh of the defrauded amount was transferred to a current account purchased by Manoj from an accomplice, Vikas, who is also arrested, for Rs 80,000. Vikas had bought the account from its holder for Rs 40,000, said the police. Manoj allegedly passed the account to Rohit for a 3 per cent commission. Rohit then handed it to Gurvinder and Ravi, who further transferred it to Akshay for a commission, the police said. Akshay, connected to cyber fraudsters via WhatsApp and Telegram, allegedly facilitated the account's use in the fraud. The investigation in the case is ongoing, with 14 arrests made so far. Bankers, chartered accountants aiding financial frauds: police Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police have so far arrested 34 bank employees involved in similar cyber frauds, Dewan said. 'It is seen that professionals like bankers, chartered accountants and other financial services experts are both aiding and abetting such offences by facilitating the creation and use of mule accounts. These accounts are being opened in large volumes and have fake directors and proprietors listed. They give technical and other (logistical) assistance in routing and re-routing the proceeds of the crime (duped amounts). We are taking the strictest of legal action against all the perpetrators that have come to light so far,' said Dewan. Dewan said the police will communicate with senior executives of both public and private sector banks, as well as correspond with institutions like SEBI, to highlight the misuse of their names. 'It will be an eye-opener for them also,' he said.

The stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 lives on June 4, reportedly happened after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the state government ignored the advice of the police, who had suggested to postpone the RCB's victory celebrations until Sunday (June 8). According to a report with Deccan Herald, a senior police officer said that the police department had attempted to postpone the celebrations to Sunday, saying that they were already exhausted, since the celebrations had lasted until the wee hours after the match was over. 'We tried to discourage them, but there was a mad frenzy. The celebrations had continued into the early hours, and our personnel were exhausted," the report quoted the officer as saying. 'Though we managed to cancel the victory procession, our request to either confine the celebrations to a single venue or postpone it to Sunday, when emotions would have settled, was ignored," he added. 'We simply had no time to prepare. It was a case of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't," he said. According to the report, a traffic policeman deployed at the stadium also flagged the 'poor coordination" among the police, the fire force and the KSCA. At the time of the stampede, a large number of police personnel were deployed near the Vidhana Soudha, where the state government was felicitating the RCB players. 'We didn't even have clarity on the event's agenda," the report quoted him as saying. A report with India Today also claimed the Bengaluru cops had also recommended Sunday for the victory celebrations as it would have ensured minimal disruption to traffic, since it would be a non-working day. The incident occurred near the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium when thousands of fans gathered to glimpse their favourite players ahead of RCB's IPL victory celebrations. The Karnataka government announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased killed in the stampede. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed a press conference and said the government would also provide free treatment to the injured.
