Renfrewshire Council has paid this much over workplace accident claims
A Freedom of Information request has revealed that Renfrewshire Council has been forced to fork out nearly £264,000 in compensation over the past three years following successful workplace accident claims. Cuts, abrasions, slips and trips are just some of the reasons why employees have submitted accident claims against the local authority. According to the figures obtained by firm JF Law, in 2022 a total of 22 workplace accident claims were made against the council. A year later this number stayed the same, while in 2024/25 it dropped to six. A total of £210,150 was paid out in 2022/23, £46,796,70 in 2023/24 and just £7,000 in 2024/25. "Unfortunately, council workers can often be involved in workplace accidents ranging from seemingly minor issues like slips on wet floors and trips on uneven surfaces to more serious incidents involving manual handling and defective equipment.' The information obtained by the firm also revealed the most common causes of the claims made against the council. According to the statistics, twenty claims were made for slips, trips or falls, 12 for workplace practices and five for assaults. 'The majority of reported incidents since 2022 have been of a minor nature, typically involving minor injuries such as cuts, abrasions, slips, and trips.
