The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday permitted the state government to submit a status report into the June 4 stampede outside Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru in a sealed cover accepting a request from the government that making its content public might influence judicial enquiry as well as the ongoing hearing on the bail petitions.A division bench of acting chief justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice CM Joshi will now hear the case on June 12, Thursday. The HC has taken up suo motu cognizance of the ghastly stampede caused during the RCB's victory celebrations after winning the 2025 IPL final that led to an unprecedented stampede killing 11 people and injuring scores of others. Quite a few public-spirited people have moved the high court seeking justice in the case.AG Shashi Kiran Shetty, appearing for the government, mentioned the likelihood of the persons arrested in connection with the case using the status report in the bail petitions, and its influence on the judicial enquiry.Justice SR Krishna Kumar at the high court posted for Wednesday the bail petition from RCB's marketing head Nikhil Sosale in connection with the stampede case.His counsel questioned why his client, and three others associated with the DNA Entertainment Network, had been singled out in the case. The police, on June 6, arrested DNA Vice president Sunil Mathew, operations manager Kiran Kumar S and another employee Shamant NP Mavinakere along with Sosale. They have also challenged their arrest.Sosale's counsel said the arrests were made only because Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrests and not because the investigations required their arrest. Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty urged the court to hear the matter on Wednesday as he needed time to come back with a response.

'Shetty, while laying out a series of allegations against RCB and its partners, told the bench that the franchise did not apply for the mandatory permissions to hold the public celebration,' India Today report added. The state also held the BCCI accountable, arguing that the cricket board had an agreement with RCB to handle key responsibilities such as security, gate and ticket management. Further, the government told the court that no official permissions were granted either for the victory parade or for the celebratory ceremony that followed. Referring to communication received on June 3, just an hour before the IPL final, Shetty argued that it was a mere intimation, not a formal request. He further added that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had only sent an intimation letter, and not a proper application seeking event permission. 'Various entertainment programmes were also planned without approval,' he said. The stampede at the stadium, which hosted a victory celebration after RCB's women's team won the WPL 2024 title, has triggered widespread criticism of the organisers and calls for accountability. 'Calls for resignation are justified only when there is deliberate wrongdoing. This was a tragic incident that should never have occurred. We are deeply saddened by the loss of young lives. It is heartbreaking to witness the grief of their parents. Our focus must now be on ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated,' he said.

Income Tax officials allowed to quiz Ranya Rao for 3 days in gold smuggling case
