Teen charged after stabbing in northwest Regina

Regina police vehicles at RPS headquarters can be seen in this file image. (David Prisciak/CTV News) Regina police have charged a teenage boy after an alleged stabbing in the city's northwest Sunday evening. Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Arnason Street after the victim approached a resident on the street and asked them to call EMS. The victim was suffering from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds, police say. Officers and paramedics arrived, and the victim was taken to hospital. His injuries have been described as non-life-threatening. Officers investigated and obtained a description of the suspect. A short time later, officers observed a man matching the description walking down Arnason Street. He was taken into custody and police say they found a knife in his possession. A 17-year-old — who cannot be named under a provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act — faces one count of aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, failing to comply with the conditions of a release order and failing to comply with a disposition. The accused appeared in provincial court Monday morning.

Investigation concludes into Fredericton crash that killed two teens, young adult

Fredericton police have concluded an investigation into a triple fatality on Douglas Avenue last May. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5, 2024, when a speeding car struck a tree and landed on another vehicle. Two males aged 22 and 17 and a female, aged 14, died at the scene. The two other passengers, a 15-year-old male and 14-year-old female, were brought to hospital with critical and minor injuries. The four occupants of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. Police attempted to stop the vehicle when it passed on a different street but lost them as they were turning around to follow them. The crash happened several minutes later. 'Following a comprehensive investigation that included laboratory analysis and DNA testing, authorities have conclusively determined the identity of the individual who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident,' Fredericton police said in a Facebook post. The late driver cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and as a result of the findings no charges will be laid. For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.

Police investigating 2 discoveries of suspected explosives in southwest Calgary

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says its bomb unit was called to inspect two separate discoveries of suspected explosives Saturday. But police said neither suspected explosive is believed to be a bomb. Police received a call about a possible explosive in Weaselheads Flats Natural Environment Park, just southwest of the city, at 11:30 a.m. MT Saturday. Someone walking through the park dug up the explosive after their metal detector went off, before backing off and keeping other park visitors away and calling police. Police said they suspect the device may be left over from when the area was used for military artillery training decades ago. CPS have cordoned off the area until the bomb unit can safely contain the device. Then, at 12:10 p.m., police responded to call in the 1000 block of Woodview Crescent S.W., in the Woodlands neighbourhood, after someone found a metal box with a suspected explosive while cleaning their home. CPS called for the surrounding homes to evacuate as a precaution until the box could be safely contained by the bomb unit. Woodview Crescent was also closed to traffic. As of 2:30 p.m., residents in the area have not yet returned to their homes. There is some precedent to finding explosives in Weaselhead Flats. The park closed for six months in 2013, after flooding in June of that year unearthed undetonated explosives.
