Chelsea are reportedly in search of a new defender, especially in the right side position. According to multiple reports, Enzo Maresca's side are eyeing a move for Barcelona's centre-back Jules Kounde. The French international is a versatile player who can play both – right back and centre-back, and thus, this versatility have made him one of the names in the Blues' list for the next season.
Chelsea are reportedly in the market for a new defender ahead of the 2025/26 season, with a particular focus on strengthening the right side of their backline. According to multiple sources, Enzo Maresca's side have identified Barcelona's Jules Koundé as a potential target.
The French international has emerged as a key name on Chelsea's shortlist due to his versatility. Capable of operating both as a centre-back and a right-back, Koundé offers tactical flexibility—something Maresca is keen to add to his defensive setup.
Koundé joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022 and has since featured regularly under Xavi, showing his strong defensive awareness, technical ability, and comfort in possession. However, with Barça open to sales this summer to ease their financial situation, a move could be on the cards.

Barcelona superstar announces international retirement until coach is replaced
In a dramatic twist that has sent shockwaves through Polish football, Robert Lewandowski has announced his decision to step away from international duty, with the forward stating that he won't return unless there is a change in the coaching setup. The Barcelona forward made the bold declaration through his official social media, stating that he no longer has confidence in the current Poland manager, Michal Probierz. Advertisement The situation began to unravel a few weeks ago when Lewandowski opted out of Poland's friendlies against Moldova and Finland. At the time, the veteran striker claimed the decision had been made jointly with the coach, citing the demanding club season with Barça as a reason for his absence. But it appears that there was more brewing behind the scenes than initially revealed. Captaincy decision sparks final break Tensions escalated further when the Polish Football Federation announced that Lewandowski would be stripped of the captain's armband, handing it instead to midfielder Piotr Zielinski. This public demotion only added fuel to an already fiery situation, triggering Lewandowski's immediate and stern response. Advertisement 'Given the circumstances and the loss of confidence in the coach of the Polish national team, I have decided to give up playing with the Polish national team until he is no longer the coach,' wrote Lewandowski. He also thanked Polish supporters, calling them 'the best fans in the world,' and expressed his hope to represent the country again someday. The fallout between Poland's most iconic player and their current coach marks a low point for the national side, especially ahead of important qualifiers. For now, Lewandowski remains fully committed to Barcelona, but the message is clear — he won't wear the Poland shirt again until there's a new face on the touchline.

(Video): Chelsea player fighting for his first team place shows impressive long ball skill
All the talk around Chelsea and their goalkeeper situation in the last week has been about one man – Mike Maignan. The Frenchman is pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge, and it seems like it's all about to come down to a final hectic 48 hours before the Club World Cup window closes. Petrovic signs off season with another great showing Djordje Petrovic playing for Chelsea. (Photo by) If we don't sign him, the shirt will be battled for between Robert Sanchez, who had it this season, and Djordje Petrovic, who had it the season before. The Serb has put himself in a strong position to come back to Chelsea and start after a brilliant season on loan at Strasbourg, and he helped his chances further with a great showing in the fiery Albania – Serbia game of Saturday night. Advertisement Petrovic made some great saves, some important high claims under immense pressure from the crowd in Tirana, and then saved a crucial penalty with a superb leap and strong right hand. You can see his highlights from the game in the clip embedded here: Petrovic happy to go long when situation calls for it One thing we note from this compilation is how often Petrovic is going long. Now this is nothing to do with him, of course, this is clearly what he's been told to do by his national team coach. It's hard enough for a club team manager to teach his team to play out from the back, one can only imagine how tricky it is for an international coach, Advertisement Still, we saw plenty of evidence from Strasbourg that Petrovic has levelled up that part of his game compared to when he was last at Chelsea. Impressively, he actually completed 11 of the 13 long balls he played in the game.

Sky Sports: United ‘expecting offers' for Solskjaer signing with ‘all parties' leaning towards permanent sale
In what'll come as no surprise to any Manchester United fan, Borussia Dortmund have established their interest in another deal for Jadon Sancho. With essentially every club across the continent well aware of the player's situation, United are now 'expecting offers' (Sky Sports) for Sancho in hopes of offloading him as swiftly as possible following his recent return. Advertisement It comes after Chelsea decided against making his loan permanent last week, instead opting to pay a £5 million penalty to bypass their £25m obligation-to-buy clause. Reports suggested talks had taken place to try and negotiate a lower wage packet for the winger, but he was reluctant to budge in his demands. INEOS made to go back to drawing board over Jadon Sancho's future Sancho spent 2024/2025 on loan with the Blues. (Photo by) Alas, Sancho and United are now back to square one in regards to his future. He hasn't played a competitive game for the club since the Community Shield final last August, after which he was omitted from the opening games of the Premier League campaign until he departed for Stamford Bridge. Advertisement The 25-year-old most recently represented Dortmund in the second half of 2023/2024 in the aftermath of his fallout with Erik ten Hag. He reached the Champions League final with the side before they were comfortably overturned by Real Madrid and, like Chelsea, were unwilling to pay up and retain him on a long-term basis. Sancho awaiting approaches from suitors Sancho has enjoyed a slightly revived run of form in London, although his value is nowhere near what it was when he was in his final year with Dortmund. He had quickly made a name for himself as one of Europe's hottest prospects — hence the Reds forking out a ludicrous £73m to add him to the ranks in 2021. Sky's report adds that the Bundesliga outfit would be seeking a deal similar to the one they signed off on in January 2024. However, this won't appeal to United, who are keen to get him off the books once and for all. Advertisement 'All parties' are said to be favouring a permanent sale this summer, with Sancho now also in the final year of his lucrative contract.
