The Secrets of Jacob & Co., the Watchmaker Behind Tom Brady, ‘White Lotus' Bling

Bloomberg18-03-2025

Greetings, fellow watch nerds, Chris Rovzar here.
It's been an exciting time for watches in the public eye. Celebrities are wearing more important pieces—and more interesting versions of them—than ever before. And their presence on TV and in movies is more thoughtful and nuanced than I can remember it being (more on this later). Cynthia Erivo even had a clock charm attached to her fingernail at the Oscars!

Tony Awards draw best audience in 6 years for CBS

NEW YORK (AP) — The Tony Awards on Sunday lured 4.85 million viewers to CBS, its largest broadcast audience in six years, according to Nielsen's data. CBS said Monday the telecast — hosted by 'Wicked' star Cynthia Erivo — scored a 38% increase over last year's 3.53 million viewers. That's the largest audience for the Tonys since 2019, when the telecast that year nabbed 5.4 million viewers and ' Hadestown ' was crowned best new musical. The latest version also had to compete with the second game of the NBA Finals, between the Thunder and Pacers, CBS also said the awards show drew its largest ever streaming audience on Paramount+ but did not disclose streaming viewership numbers, only saying it was up 208% from last year. 'Maybe Happy Ending,' a rom-com about androids that crackles with humanity won best new musical on a night when Kara Young made history as the first Black person to win two Tonys consecutively for 'Purpose,' which also won best new play. Interest in the Tonys may also have been fueled by the competition in the best lead actress in a musical category, with Audra McDonald gunning for her record-setting seventh Tony and Nicole Scherzinger of 'Sunset Blvd.' hoping to be crowned a legitimate Broadway diva after a career in the pop group Pussycat Dolls and as a TV talent show judge. Other Hollywood names included in the telecast included George Clooney making his Broadway debut and 'Succession' star Sarah Snook being named best leading actress in a play for 'The Picture of Dorian Gray,' a one-woman show. Mia Farrow, Andrew Scott and Jean Smart Celebrate the Tony Awards Over Burgers and Fries at the Carlyle Hotel

After the after parties, come the after, after parties. Following the Tony Awards, many attendees flitted off to cast celebrations and the official MoMA party before landing at the annual event at the Carlyle, hosted by Rick Miramontez and John Gore. Upon entering, guests were met with camera flashes before entering into a dark, sea of people floating from booth-to-bar at the hotel, before hitting the back room where a band played songs like 'Come Fly With Me.' While she remained seated most of the night, it didn't stop people from going up to her and complimenting her performance. The 'Hacks' star graciously chatted with each person, shaking hands and laughing. After several minutes speaking with the star, one guest bragged to a friend: 'We have become very best friends with Jean Smart.…That's all we need in life.' Later on in the evening, she and actress Zoey Deutch, who wore a black, sequin gown, were all smiles, deep in conversation. Equally busy was Mia Farrow who chatted with Andrew Scott and sipped on a glass of white wine. Partygoers weren't shy to go up to the actress and compliment her on her role in the play 'The Roommate.' One fan said: 'You're incredible. We need to see more of you,' to which she very demurely responded 'Thank you. Bless you,' rubbing them on the arm. Farrow was seemingly just as excited about seeing Broadway's finest, as they were about meeting her. Ahead of the event, Farrow was eager to see Jonathan Groff perform and afterward was just as excited to gush about host Cynthia Erivo. Farrow departed at around 1:30 a.m., someone in her party saying it was time to get her home. Ariana DeBose, who hosted the Tony Awards last year, similarly said Erivo's hosting was one of the highlights of her evening…that and 'Jonathan Groff standing on Keanu Reeves' during his performance from 'Just in Time,' she said, laughing. Of course, DeBose, who was in the original cast of 'Hamilton,' also raved about getting to perform for the 10th anniversary during the awards. 'I'm biased,' she said before slinking off to sip her drink in a booth with friends. Meanwhile, Sara Bareilles snaked her way through the party holding up her silver, sequin gown to reveal a pair of white Converse. Busy Philipps arrived with soft pink hair, staying close to a small group of friends throughout the evening. Scott passed off his drink to pose for a slew of photos that lit up the dark bar area with flash. While guests mingled, some were pulled into a private area for interviews. Meanwhile, upstairs, a neon dance floor remained unused at 1:30 a.m., though a DJ did perform. Stations for late night food were also ready to go on the upper level for the inevitable munchies. At 1:45 a.m., a long line was forming of Tony goers still waiting to get into the party, including a large group of cast members from 'Sunset Blvd.' who all raised their hand in unison to let the bouncer know they were all together. Paul Tazewell, who won for 'Death Becomes Her,' slid in the line, just as the 'Sunset' crew was being let in.
