Ryan Clark acknowledges coordination with Bill Belichick over editing of Pivot interview

NBC Sports7 days ago

The Pivot Podcast episode featuring an interview with Bill Belichick could be destined to serve as the basis for an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out.
After the extended Memorial Day weekend, which operates as a de facto hard reset for many media narratives and storylines, Channing Crowder of The Pivot Podcast issued a public apology for things he had said more than a week earlier about Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend/publicist/handler/idea mill/creative muse Jordon Hudson.
Which brought the story back to the front burner. Again.
Among other things, Crowder had said Hudson 'choreographed' the interview. After Crowder apologized, co-host Ryan Clark denied that the interview was 'choreographed.' While then explaining several things about the interview that sounded a lot like, you know, choreography.
We published an article (it's available here) and posted a link on Twitter. Clark retweeted our link with this message:
'Well Mike. It wasn't a pre-show meeting. Both Channing & Fred [Taylor] were on the same flight delayed from Miami. I was already in NY. So I was there first. As for serving the viewers we will not do that at the expense of people who volunteer to give us their time. We have had various reasons for edits, & exemptions. From contractual agreements, second thoughts, or just not liking how it felt. Moving slimy in the name of clicks is not worth the integrity of our show. Jordon was not contacted nor involved in any conversation about the timing in which what we documented could be released. That conversation took place between Bill & I.'
Clark's message ignores most of the points we made. Why was Hudson involved in a 90-minute meeting before the interview started? Why was what would have been the first EXCLUSIVE! sit-down with Belichick and Hudson not released?
What does this mean, and how was it reflected in the interview process, or the editing? 'Jordon wanted to be represented in a certain way, wanted their relationship to be represented in a certain way. . . . And the conversations we had afterwards, before the show was released, what we'll show or what can we show about Bill speaking about her and the rest of our interview?'
By insisting that Hudson had no control over the interview, Clark seems to be saying Belichick exercised extensive control over the interview. Clark also may have revealed that some sort of 'contractual agreement' covered the Belichick interview.
Then there's this comment: 'As for serving the viewers we will not do that at the expense of people who volunteer to give us their time.'
At some level, that's fair. No one should expect an interviewer to try to attack the reputation of or destroy the relationship with the subject of the interview. But it's not normal for an interviewer (when the interviewer is an actual journalist) to coordinate with the subject of the interview before, during, or after the interview. It's also not normal for an interviewer to get approval from the subject of the interview as to the questions that will be asked and/or the answers that will be used, and those that will land on the cutting-room floor.
Frankly, it feels as if Clark allowed himself to become part of Belichick's external P.R. team.
Exercising journalistic freedom and integrity doesn't mean Clark should have 'mov[ed] slimy in the name of clicks.' However, at the other extreme resides the danger of moving slimy in the name of access. And friendship. And financial gain. And whatever else led to a one-on-one between Clark and Belichick that seemed every bit as choreographed as a lawyer conducting a scripted direct examination of a star witness — especially during the part where Clark seemingly aided and abetted the airing of Belichick's ongoing beef with CBS.
In summary, there's something very strange about all of this. The more Crowder and Clark talk about it, the stranger it gets.
There apparently were communications between Clark and Belichick, after the interview ended, regarding how it would be edited and presented. There could be a 'contractual agreement' regarding the interview. There's definitely raw video of Clark interviewing Belichick and Hudson together.
So, yes, this looks like a job for Pablo Torre Finds Out.

But MSNBC shone in the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo as the only network to record improvements versus the prior week during both dayparts. CNN, on the other hand, was the only network to experience week-to-week declines across the board. It was the network's lowest-rated week so far this year. Meanwhile, Fox News managed to finish ahead of all three broadcast networks in weekday primetime viewers. It commanded 68% of the cable news audience in primetime and 65% of the audience across total day. NETWORKS: According to Nielsen Live Plus, same-day data for the week of May 26 saw FNC average 2.289 million total viewers and 240,000 A25-54 viewers during primetime. The network experienced a -6% decline in the former category and a -5% decline in the latter compared to the week prior (the week beginning May 19). FNC averaged 1.479 million total viewers and 175,000 A25-54 viewers in total day viewing. Relative to the week prior, it was down -5% in the former category and had a flat finish in the latter. Fox News slipped to third in total primetime viewers and dropped one spot to fourth in the demo among all basic cable networks. In total day, it remained No. 1 in total viewers and held steady at No. 3 position in the demo. MSNBC's primetime lineup averaged 718,000 total viewers and 65,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. The network was down -9% in the former category, but rose +8% in the latter compared to the week prior. During total day, MSNBC averaged 504,000 total viewers and 47,000 demo viewers for a week-to-week decline of -4% in the former category, but a +4% in the latter. Among all basic cable networks, MSNBC slid to fifth in total primetime viewers, but moved up three spots to land at No. 24 in the demo. During total day, it remained No. 4 in total viewers and slipped one spot from No. 18 to No. 19 in the demo, tied with the Hallmark Channel and MTV. CNN averaged 374,000 total viewers and 61,000 A25-54 viewers during primetime for declines of -3% and -8%, respectively. In total day, the network saw 308,000 total viewers and 49,000 viewers in the demo for respective losses of -11% and -13% in those categories. In primetime, CNN held steady at No. 14 place in total viewers and dropped five spots to the No. 27 position in the demo, tied with the Hallmark Channel. During total day, it slid from fifth to sixth place in total viewers and fell four spots to No. 16 in the demo. When looking at these networks' performance during the same period a year ago (the week of May 27, which included coverage of President Donald Trump's guilty verdict in his hush money trial): During primetime, Fox News increased by +8% in total viewers and +6% in the demo. During total day, the network saw gains of +7% in total viewers and +9% in the demo. MSNBC dropped -52% in total viewers and -59% in the demo. MSNBC's Deadline: White House with Nicole Wallace (1.066 million viewers at 5 p.m. ET) registered at No. 15. The Five (409,000 viewers) also reclaimed the top spot on the Top 15 demo shows, with Fox News occupying 14 slots. UNC GM Michael Lombardi ‘deeply concerned' about Bill Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson: ex-ESPNer

Journalist Pablo Torre said the North Carolina football staff, including general manager Mike Lombardi, is 'deeply concerned' about Bill Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson being anywhere near the athletic program. During a Tuesday appearance on Bill Simmons' podcast to squash their 'big beef' over the Belichick-Hudson drama, Torre painted a bleak picture of how UNC brass is handling the couple's relationship and the media attention that comes with it. 'What if I told you that [Belichick's] inner circle of actual coaches on staff, including a certain Mike Lombardi, is deeply concerned about Jordon Hudson and her presence in the building?' said Torre, a former ESPN reporter who worked for the Worldwide Leader with Simmons in 2010. Advertisement 4 Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson at a holiday event in Nantucket in December 2024. Instagram/Jordon Hudson Simmons, a die-hard Boston sports fan, then changed the subject. Lombardi is a former employee of Simmons's platform, 'The Ringer.' Getty Images 'Bill, surely you've communicated with Lombardi about this. So, what has he said?' Torre asked. Simmons didn't entertain the question. Torre also told Simmons that Hudson attended a Patriots game and sat in Belichick's seats at Gillette Stadium in November 2021 — the same year the couple said they met on a plane to from New York to Palm Beach. Advertisement 4 Pablo Torre appeared on Bill Simmons' podcast to squash their 'big beef' over the Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson drama and alleged that UNC coaches and GM Mike Lombardi are deeply concerned about her presence. YouTube/Bill Simmons Last month, Torre reported that Hudson was banned from the UNC athletics facility amid the fallout from Belichick's disastrous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview, which aired April 27 and showed Hudson stopping him from answering a question about how the couple met. Torre said he spoke with 11 people who had dealt directly with Hudson as part of his investigation, which alleged she was trying to control Belichick's career to further her own — and that Belichick's family is concerned and digging into Hudson. Advertisement Belichick and UNC later issued a statement and specifically denied Torre's claim that higher-ups at UNC banned Hudson from the team's facility. 4 Pablo Torre appeared on Bill Simmons' podcast to squash their 'big beef' over the Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson drama on June 3, 2025. YouTube/Bill Simmons Torre and Simmons chatted Tuesday following barbs being traded over Torre's deep dives into the Belichick-Hudson saga. Simmons' issue was that Torre was doing investigative journalism about a 'stupid' subject matter. 'Jordon Hudson retweeted about me, saying I need a new hobby — she's not wrong,' Torre said. The news of Belichick and Hudson's relationship broke last June — five months after his split with the Patriots in January after 24 years and six Super Bowl titles. Belichick explained in a series of recent interviews that Hudson helps run his professional opportunities outside of UNC football.
