Nagpur woman who crossed into Pakistan used Google Maps to cross over: Police
Sunita Jamgade, a 43-year-old woman from Nagpur, who crossed the Line of Control (LoC) last month from Hunderman village in Kargil, told police during interrogation that she used Google Maps to find her way into Pakistan. The widely used navigation platform, she claimed, guided her route across the border, police sources said.
Kapil Nagar Police Station's Inspector, Satish Aade said that a suspicious mobile application was found installed on Sunita's device. For now, the app remains unopened, as investigators are unsure about its purpose or potential risks. The phone has been sent for forensic analysis, and police are also checking whether a chip may have been installed in the device. Officers noted that Sunita appeared mentally unstable during questioning, often giving responses that didn't relate to the questions asked.
Her 12-year-old son has also been brought to Nagpur and is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Police have recorded his statement. The child said that the family had previously travelled to Bhutan and Nepal for holidays. During her interrogation, Sunita insisted she didn't need a visa for those trips, and therefore assumed the same would apply to Pakistan. Sunita has been moved to Judicial custody.
Sunita Jamgade had earlier maintained that she visited Pakistan to seek business opportunities; however, later agreed that her sole purpose to visit the neighbouring country was to meet one, Zulfikar. She has been booked for espionage by Nagpur police. Her police custody ended on Monday and she will now be moved to judicial custody.
Authorities are now coordinating with the police in Kargil to determine whether Jamgade received any local assistance in crossing the LoC. Since she was briefly in the custody of Pakistan's armed forces, the investigation will also probe what transpired during her time across the border.

Live-in couple detained for hitting children
MUMBAI: The Malvani police have booked and detained a Malad-based live-in couple for allegedly assaulting their three children. According to the police, 32-year-old Chetna Patil and 40-year-old Pankaj Kumar reside in Malwani, close to the residence of Patil's mother, 54-year-old Poonam Parmar. Patil has a seven-year-old son, Priyank, from her first husband, and two children named Raghav, 1, and Vivani, 2, from Kumar. In her complaint, Parmar said that she had witnessed the couple hit Priyank brutally in 2020, when they lived in Andheri. Their neighbours had also shown her videos of them assaulting the young boy. She subsequently convinced the couple to shift to Malad, close to her residence, and hoped that the assaults had ended. However, on Saturday, when Parmar visited her daughter, she saw Kumar assaulting his stepson Priyank and complained about the matter to the Malvani police. 'They have been torturing the children constantly, both physically and mentally, and the children have several injury marks all over their bodies,' said Parmar. Based on her complaint, the Malvani police registered a case against Patil and Kumar under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and section 115 (2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. 'We have detained the couple and handed over the children to the Child Welfare Committee,' a police officer aware of the matter said.

3 Class 6 students named in FIR after boy's eardrum ruptured
Gurgaon: Three Class 6 students of a prominent private school in the city have been named in an FIR for allegedly assaulting their classmate, an 11-year-old boy, whose eardrum was ruptured as a result. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident was reported by the boy's mother on May 14 and the FIR was registered nearly two weeks later, on May 29. It includes charges under BNS sections 3(5) for criminal intimidation and 117(2) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, and invokes section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty to a child. According to the mother's complaint, the three students – two of his class and the third from another Class 6 section – had been bullying her son for a year and were "equally involved in the conspiracy and the physical assault". Two of them live in the same society as the boy's family. The school's principal told TOI on Monday that the assault was nothing more than a "scuffle" between children. But the mother said the students snatched the boy's bag, pushed him towards a wall, causing him to fall to the ground, pressed his groin and beat him up while exiting a classroom in the school on May 14. "My son attempted to resist and pleaded with these students to stop… One of them hit my child on the left ear, resulting in a torn eardrum," the mother said in the complaint. She said the assault happened in the presence of four teachers, two male PT and two female teachers. "No medical attention or first aid was given to my child, and he was left alone in pain. When my son informed another teacher and began crying, no other teacher asked him why he was upset. He was even scolded by a teacher," she said. Last year, the mother alleged, she had complained about the three students bullying her child during a parent-teacher meeting (PTM). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Principal of the Sector 103 school denied the accusations and said that "appropriate action" was taken on the same day. "Parents of the three students were called to school as part of disciplinary action. Counselling was provided to all children. It was done on paper, on record, in front of a camera and with the child welfare committee (CWC)," she said. According to the principal, the injury to the boy wasn't as severe as described by the mother. "The ruptured eardrum injury is not proven, or not yet clear, and nowhere is it declared," she said. She accused the boy's mother of "blackmailing" the school and demanding "free education for her child till he passes out". The principal said the parents of the three students had offered to pay the boy's medical expenses, and the school took several measures, including an apology from the classmates and changing the boy's section. She suggested that matter was exacerbated because of a "falling out" between the boy's and the students' parents, who lived in the same society in the city. On Monday, police said the FIR was registered after confirming medical opinion, questioning all sides and reviewing CCTV footage from the school. A May 16 medical examination report from Nidan Hospital in Gurgaon said the boy had "pain in the left year", was hearing "whistling" sounds and reported "dizziness". Cops, on May 19, sought a medical opinion from the hospital, whose doctor confirmed "rupture" of the left ear drum because the child was "slapped". The boy's mother said doctors have recommended waiting for three months to see if the damage to the boy's ear heals naturally, otherwise they would have to operate on him. "We are investigating the case," a police officer said.
