Rhome fatal crash: Wife gives CPR, husband pins down suspect

A 19-year-old woman was killed in a fatal crash in Wise County involving an intoxicated driver.
Bystanders, an Oklahoma couple, bravely intervened, with the wife attempting CPR and the husband apprehending the fleeing suspect.
The driver, 58-year-old Alan Schutt, faces intoxication manslaughter and failure to render aid charges but has since bonded out of jail.
RHOME, Texas - An Oklahoma couple who witnessed a fatal crash in Wise County assisted in two areas of response shortly after the Thursday incident.
While the wife attempted to save the 19-year-old victim, her husband chased down the suspect and held him down until police arrested him.
What Happened
Thursday around 9:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety says a Jeep Cherokee heading northbound on Highway 287 hit two parked cars on the shoulder near Rhome.
The driver also hit a person standing near the cars, then drove into oncoming traffic and hit an SUV before coming to a stop.
Sydney Gann and her family saw the end of the crash, and they pulled over to help.
Gann ran over to help a man and a woman near the cars on the shoulder. When she got there, she saw the man was doing CPR on the woman. Police say she was the one hit directly by the Jeep.
While Gann was helping the couple, her husband chased the suspect who ran up the hill away from the scene. Gann says her husband held the man down until police showed up, and he could smell alcohol on the suspect.
The Suspect
Texas DPS identified the driver of the Jeep Cherokee as 58-year-old Alan Schutt. He was arrested and was allegedly found to be intoxicated.
Schutt has since bonded out of jail. He faces second-degree felony charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to render aid involving death.
The Victims
The woman, identified as 19-year-old Destiny Quintanilla, died at the hospital.
The man, 20-year-old Mykah Dallas, was taken to the hospital and later released.
What they're saying
Gann described what she saw at the scene of the crash.
"So the whole passenger side looked like it was t-boned, and like the passenger door looked like it was folded forward. So she opened the door, and it looked like he hit it and folded it forward," Gann said.
She says she was deeply affected by the situation.
"I mean, it's hurt my heart a little bit, you know," Gann said. "I kind of teared up a little bit when I found out she didn't make it, because, you know, again, she's someone's baby, and you can tell she was young."
And being a mother to three young children is what drove Gann to stop and help in the first place.
"Those two, I could see him, and you could see the distraught on his face. And I was like, I can't not help. That's someone's baby over there. And I would want someone to do the same for my babies."

A 7-year-old boy died crossing the street. His parents are being charged.
Parents in North Carolina were arrested after allegedly leaving their 7-year-old son unsupervised when he was fatally struck by a car while trying to cross the street, police said. Gastonia police said on May 29 that Jessica Ivey and Samuele Jenkins have been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, felony child neglect, and misdemeanor child neglect. No charges have been filed against the driver of the Jeep Cherokee after no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing on her part was found, police said, adding that the woman continues to be cooperative. The incident remains under active investigation, according to the department. Both Ivey and Jenkins remain in the custody of the Gaston County Jail with $1.5 million bonds, according to inmate records. North Texas teen critically injured in ‘Senior Assassin' game dies in hospital
A North Texas high school senior died after more than a month on life support from injuries sustained in an accident while playing the game 'Senior Assassin' in Arlington. Isaac Leal, 17, died on Monday, June 2, from a blunt force injury to the head, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. His death was ruled an accident. 'He was full of life, dreams and so much potential. Isaac brought light to everyone around him with a smile, kind heart and spirit that touched so many,' a family member wrote in a GoFundMe to raise donations for his memorial service. Leal was hospitalized for over a month and underwent multiple surgeries and tests while he was in a coma, according to the GoFundMe account. Leal, a baseball player at South Grand Prairie High School, was chasing other students with his water gun in an Arlington neighborhood on April 20, police said. During the game, Leal jumped onto the back of a parked Jeep, which drove through the residential neighborhood in the 6500 block of Devine Drive, Arlington police said. Previously convicted Burke County man accused of carrying six guns, one allegedly stolen: Sheriff
MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A previously convicted Burke County man is charged with a string of felonies after six firearms were reportedly discovered in his vehicle over the weekend. On Sunday, June 1, deputies with the Burke County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee, claiming it was displaying a fictitious license plate. The driver was identified as 34-year-old Tyler Dwayne South, who had an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear in Mitchell County. According to the sheriff's office, a vehicle search resulted in the following items allegedly being seized: Six firearms with ammunition, 16 grams of fentanyl, 1 gram of methamphetamine, Alprazolam tablets, Marijuana, and Drug paraphernalia. Deputies say one of the firearms seized had been reported stolen. South was arrested and charged with: Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felony Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Felony Trafficking Fentanyl, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and Three misdemeanor drug offenses A citation was also issued to South for operating a motor vehicle while displaying a fictitious license plate. South was given a $250,000 secured bond, and his first appearance was scheduled for June 2, at the Burke County Courthouse. Thats' when he was further charged with a felony probation violation, resulting in an additional $50,000 secured bond. The outstanding Order for Arrest from Mitchell County was also served.
