Why are parents worried over NTA's decision to conduct CUET accountancy re-test

Time of India22-05-2025

Parents have expressed concern over the National Testing Agency's (NTA) decision to conduct a re-examination for the
CUET-UG 2025
accountancy paper, held between May 13 and 16, calling it 'unfair' and 'stressful' for students.
The NTA has revised the structure of the accountancy test following complaints that some questions fell outside the prescribed syllabus. From May 22 onwards, students will have the option to either attempt questions from Unit V or skip it altogether, while questions from Units I to IV will remain unchanged.
Parents said they had flagged discrepancies in the syllabus—specifically in Unit V—to the NTA helpdesk as early as April, but were told that 'whatever is written in the syllabus is correct.' The re-test decision has sparked frustration, with parents questioning why their earlier concerns were dismissed.
In a notice on Monday, the agency said: "NTA is committed to conducting fair and transparent examinations. Students who appeared from May 13 to 16 will be given a chance to rewrite the paper, should they wish to." Specific queries sent to NTA officials went unanswered. "NTA published a syllabus for accountancy clearly mentioning that Unit V could be replaced with a computerised accounting system as an optional component. I called NTA and asked them, and they said there is an option. But in the admission brochure, they've clearly mentioned there are no options among the 50 questions that are going to be asked. So how is this option going to manifest itself in the exam?" asked a parent, adding that after escalating the call to a supervisor, he was assured, "There will be an option. Don't worry."
The issue has sparked a heated debate on social media. One user suggested NTA might now choose to drop the 'controversial' question entirely.

DAVV PG admission draws low registrations

Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) closed registrations for PG admissions through CUET-PG scores on Thursday, but the unexpectedly low number of applications raised serious concerns. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Against 1,450 available seats, the university received just over 1,500 registrations—despite a record 86,000 candidates selecting DAVV courses as their preference during the CUET-PG application process. The stark contrast between the number of students who initially showed interest and those who ultimately registered left the university administration puzzled. This is especially surprising considering the rising demand for certain courses like MBA (Finance), MBA (Marketing), and MBA (Business Economics), which consistently attracted aspirants in recent years. However, demand for several other courses appears to have dropped significantly. This year marks DAVV's first attempt at conducting PG counselling entirely online. The university will release the first seat allotment list on June 24. Students allotted seats must report to the campus between June 30 and July 2 to verify documents and submit fees. Despite low registrations, the varsity is not planning to extend the deadline for registrations. "We will not be extending the deadline now as the online counselling schedule will be hampered," said DAVV admissions committee member, Dr Yogendra Bawal. The admission process will now move to the merit list preparation stage, which will take place from June 6 to 10, followed by the release of the list on June 12. Students can complete online choice filling from June 13 to 19. Despite CUET-PG 2025 seeing a nationwide surge in participation—with 6.55 lakh applicants—DAVV's low turnout is being viewed as part of a wider trend where non-CUET courses have also seen fewer students opting for admission. Experts believe this may reflect broader shifts in student preferences or confusion around the online counselling process. Notably, last year only 42,000 students selected DAVV through CUET-PG, compared to 86,000 this year. The university anticipated tough competition, but the actual figures fell far short of expectations. DAVV offers 24 PG courses across more than 10 teaching departments, including sought-after programs like MA Clinical Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science.
