vivo V50 Elite Edition is coming, here's the official launch date

GSM Arena13-05-2025

vivo is getting ready to unveil a third member of its V50 family in India, which will arrive to complement the V50 and V50e. This will be the V50 Elite Edition, and the brand has now started teasing it.
The official announcement is scheduled for May 15. While the teaser is devoid of any specs, we can see a circular camera island in the video below with "co-engineered with Zeiss" branding, so clearly the cameras will be a big part of this phone's USP.
Elite. Enigmatic. Arriving soon. With sound that surrounds and portraits that captivate — this is more than just a phone. #vivoV50EliteEdition #ZEISSPortraitSoPro pic.twitter.com/XvKWso54W1 — vivo India (@Vivo_India) May 12, 2025
In fact, the X post itself mentions "portraits that captivate" along with "sound that surrounds", so perhaps there will be some improvements in those areas compared to the V50 which was introduced in February.
For reference, note that the V50 comes with a 6.77-inch 1080x2392 AMOLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and 4,500-nit peak brightness, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC at the helm, 8/12GB of RAM, 128/256/512GB of storage, a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide with autofocus for macro shots, a 50 MP selfie snapper with autofocus, and a 6,000 mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging. vivo V50 vivo V50e 5G

Huawei has switchable lenses on the Pura 80 Ultra, iOS 26 is here, Week 24 in review

It was a busy week. Both Apple and Google offered major software events - Apple's WWDC detailed the next versions of its iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV software, while Google released Android 16 to the masses. Apple's iOS 26 has a new design called Liquid Glass with emphasis on transparent and changeable visuals, inspired by VisionOS. And yeah, we jumped from iOS 18 to 26 because of consistency. The iPad got a major update too with the addition on the Background Tasks API - now you can finally call it a computer! Huawei's Pura 80 series is here, and the Pura 80 Ultra is unique. It has a 1-inch type main camera, an amazing screen, a big battery, but that's not the unique part. It packs a 50MP 1/1.28-inch sensor attached to two zoom lenses. Huawei fitted an intricate moving mechanism that shifts between the two lenses. You get 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom with sensor-shift OIS. This effectively means that you can capture shots at f/2.4 aperture with an 83 mm equivalent focal length or at f/3.6 aperture with a 212 mm focal length. The Pura 80 series is available in China - the Pura 80 Pro and Pro+ already, while the Pura 80 Ultra is on pre-order and will begin shipping on June 26. The vanilla Pura 80 isn't available just yet. Google released the stable Android 16 to its Pixel lineup, going back to the Pixel 6 series. However, two of Android 16's biggest changes are not part of this first stable release. We're talking about Material 3 Expressive and the new Desktop mode, which will arrive later. There's no sign of the Glyph Interface - and the dot-matrix display that is rumored to be replacing it. The most significant redesign since iOS 7 is here. The two lenses are attached to a massive 1/1.28-inch telephoto sensor. Huawei has stepped up not just its camera game, but it has improved satellite messaging, faster chipsets, better water resistance and more. Available for Pixel 6 series and up. Oppo quietly launched A5i and A5i Pro, though they are not entirely novel designs. Both are based on the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1, which is a rebrand of the Snapdragon 662. The same chip was used in the Oppo A5 Pro 4G, which shares many similarities with these two new models. The Oppo A5i Pro is available in the Philippines – right now, it's exclusively sold through Shopee, but starting on June 20 it will also be available from Oppo's TikTok shop and Lazada. The Pro is priced at PHP 9,000, which converts to $160/€140/₹14,000. We haven't found Oppo A5i in stores just yet. The A5i comes in Starry Purple and Nebula Red, the A5i Pro comes in Midnight Purple. You probably saw this coming. The Pro also has the better camera, though the differences between the two models aren't huge. Unsurprisingly they will be higher than their predecessors'. More health insights at the tip of your fingers. They are allegedly going to be announced together.

Deals: Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra prices fall to new low, plus some more affordable offers

The pricing of Xiaomi's 15-series has reached a new low, offering a choice between a relatively compact flagship and an all-out camera phone. We know that many don't consider the Xiaomi 15 to be 'small' with its 6.36' display and 71.2mm width. Still, it's one of the smaller Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships and, unlike say a Galaxy S25, it has triple 50MP cameras on the back. This includes a main with a large 1/1.31' sensor, a 2.6x/60mm telephoto and a 115° ultra-wide. The phone runs on a 5,240mAh battery with fast charging (90W wired, 50W wireless) and gets great battery life. The display is a 12-bit LTPO panel, by the way. The phone launched with Android 15 and will receive 4 OS updates. Xiaomi 15 €300 off Read our review 12/512GB - €800 at Amazon DE The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has a chunky camera island and the hardware there is several steps above the 15. For example, the main has a 1'-type sensor. The tele lens is bumped up to 3x/60mm and there's also a 200MP 4.3x/100mm periscope on board. The battery for the global market isn't that large at 5,410mAh. Here's how the Xiaomi 15 Ultra compares with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Xiaomi 15 Ultra €250 off Read our review 16/512GB - €1,250 at Amazon DE If you don't have the budget for a flagship, the Redmi Note 14 Pro is pretty affordable. It comes with a 200MP camera that does solid 2x in-sensor zoom. There's no dedicated telephoto lens and the ultra-wide module has only an 8MP sensor. The 6.67' 1220p+ 12-bit OLED display with Dolby Vision is great and is paired with a good set of stereo speakers. The 5,110mAh battery is a bit slower to charge than we would have liked and the battery life is good but not amazing. For around the same amount of cash you can have the Nothing Phone (3a) instead – this one does have a telephoto module, a 50MP camera with a 2x/50mm lens. This is in addition to the 50MP main and 8MP ultra wide. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a bit faster than the Dimensity 7300 Ultra inside the Redmi and the 5,000mAh battery lasts a bit longer. The 6.77" 120Hz OLED display lacks Dolby Vision, though. Also, the phone is rated IP64 compared to IP68. Nothing Phone (3a) €50 off Read our review 8/128GB - €280 at Amazon DE Also in this price range is the Honor 200. It's an older model from 2024, but features an even faster Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. It has a 50MP tele camera of its own with a 2.5x lens, plus a 50MP 1/1.56' main and a 12MP ultra wide. The display is a 6.7' 120Hz OLED panel and there is a 5,200mAh battery with 100W fast charging inside. Honor 200 €50 off Read our review 12/512GB - €300 at Amazon DE The Motorola Moto G56 ends its pre-order period this Sunday. It pairs an entry-level Dimensity 7060 5G chipset with a 6.72' 120Hz IPS LCD with 1080p+ resolution. The phone is rated IP68/IP69. The camera setup features a 50MP main (a small 1/1.95' sensor) and 8MP ultra-wide, plus a 32MP selfie camera. Both a microSD slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack can be found on board. Motorola Moto G56 8/256GB - €250 at Amazon DE Still on pre-order (until Tuesday) and in a very different category is the new RedMagic 10S Pro. This phone features the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite with an active cooling fan – it's one of the best-performing phones out there, but the fan doesn't do much. You get a flat, rectangular 6.85' 144Hz OLED display with an under display camera. Also, there are two shoulder triggers that can be mapped into games. The battery is a massive 7,050mAh cell with 80W charging. We may get a commission from qualifying sales.
