Bailey Smith a late out for Cats' clash with Gold Coast
Geelong superstar Bailey Smith has been ruled out of his side's monster clash with Gold Coast because of hamstring tightness.
Smith was put through a fitness test about 90 minutes before bounce-down at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
But the gun midfielder did not do enough to convince Cats medical staff to give him the green light.
Ted Clohesy has been called in as Smith's replacement.
Gold Coast also made a late change, with Sean Lemmens replacing Ethan Read.
The Suns clash will be the second game Smith has missed this season, after he sat out the round-two loss to St Kilda with a calf injury.
The 24-year-old also revealed after the win over the Western Bulldogs a fortnight ago that he had been battling a shin issue.
Smith said at the time he only played that night because he had been desperate to line up against his former team.
Geelong (8-5) can leapfrog Gold Coast (8-3) into the top four if they win on Saturday.
Patrick Dangerfield is back from a hamstring injury and Jack Martin will make his Cats debut against one of his former clubs.
With Clohesy called up to replace Smith, veteran Mitch Duncan has been named as the substitute.
Ben Ainsworth is the sub for Gold Coast.

EPSOM, England (AP) — Lambourn raced away from the pack to win the English Derby on Saturday, giving Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien his 11th win at the classic race. Lambourn set the pace early and then pulled away down the final stretch to win by about 3 1/2 lenghts. The 3-year-old colt, ridden by Wayne Lordan, entered the race at 13-2 after losing to 2-1 favorite Delacroix at Leopardstown in March. But Delacroix never looked like challenging this time and finished ninth. Lazy Griff (50-1) was second and Tennessee Stud came third. It was O'Brien's third consecutive win at the showpiece race. 'Wayne gave him him an incredible ride,' O'Brien said. 'Everybody knew what he was going to do, he's very straightforward, Wayne knew he'd stay so he went forward.' Lambourn was sired by 2014 Derby winner Australia, who in turn was sired by 2001 victor Galileo. 'It's incredible for everyone that we trained Australia to win the Derby and his sire as well, Galileo. I'm just a small part of it, everybody puts in so much, I can't tell you what a privelege it is,' O'Brien said. Super-shooter's 71 goals as Fever end Swifts' streak
The great Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard has scored 71 goals as the West Coast Fever ended the NSW Swifts' unbeaten start to the Super Netball season with an impressive 79-68 win at Ken Rosewall Arena. In a heavyweight blockbuster between the competition's two best teams, the Fever (7-2) started quickly and finished with a flourish, extending their winning streak to seven and ending the Swifts' eight-game unbeaten run in 2025.
