From reunions to farewells: The stories behind faces lost in Air India AI171 crash
AHMEDABAD: The promise of new beginnings, the joy of a long-awaited reunion between father and son, a family's celebration of love and joy were all shattered in an instant when the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London, crashed into the densely populated Meghaninagar area just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad.
The accident claimed the lives of all but one of 242 passengers on board, including 12 crew members, in the country's worst aviation tragedies, leaving dozens of families in mourning.
Among the deceased were 18 people from North Gujarat, hailing from Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, and Aravalli districts.
Towns such as Visnagar, Kadi, Chandumana, Aithor, Dhanera, Palanpur, Modasa, Khambhisar, Bayad, and Danta have all lost lives in the tragedy, leaving behind a trail of heartbreak across Gujarat.
Kamlesh Chaudhary and his wife Dhapuben, a young couple from Thavar village in Dhanera, were on their way to settle in the UK. Their dreams, carefully built over years, came crashing down with the aircraft. Their grieving family is left clutching photos and memories, instead of visa papers and airport hugs.
In Visnagar, the pain is just as raw. Dinesh Kumar Patel, a lifelong farmer, was taking his first flight — a trip to London to visit his son. His friends had thrown him a heartfelt farewell on the farm, where the old Bollywood song 'Tu Kal Chala Jayega To Main Kya Karunga' played in the background.
None imagined that the song would become an elegy.

As a matter of abundant caution, he decided to return back." The flight returned to IGI by 7:20 p.m. "Multiple safety checks were carried out as soon as it returned. Everything was found to be alright," the source added. Passengers were given the option of rescheduling their journey on other flights at no extra cost or cancelling their tickets. AI 819 is slated to depart to Vadodara on Monday morning.

Grief grips Anand as bodies of three AI victims return home
Vadodara: As the bodies of the victims of the ill-fated Air India flight began arriving in Anand from Ahmedabad, a pall of gloom descended over the NRI-dominated towns and villages of central Gujarat on Sunday. At least 33 passengers from this region had boarded the doomed flight. In the quiet village of Ramnagar in Anand taluka, relatives and villagers gathered to mourn the loss of Mahendra Vaghela. He had boarded the flight on Thursday afternoon, filled with excitement for his first-ever trip to London, where he was eager to meet his newborn granddaughter. Frankfurt-Hyderabad flight returns to base mid-air
A Hyderabad-bound Lufthansa aircraft from Frankfurt returned to its base mid-air, sources said on Sunday. However, the reasons for the aborted flight were not immediately known. Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here received a message that the flight was returning to Frankfurt some time after it took off from Germany. According to the website flight LH752 departed Frankfurt at 2:15 PM and was originally expected to land in Hyderabad at 6:00 AM on Monday.
