Klubnik Cracks Top 10 Returning QBs, Eyes Heisman After Championship Season
Klubnik Cracks Top 10 Returning QBs, Eyes Heisman After Championship Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
CLEMSON, S.C. -- After leading the Clemson Tigers back to the pinnacle of the ACC and securing a College Football Playoff berth, quarterback Cade Klubnik is not just a champion, but also one of the nation's elite signal-callers heading into the 2025 season. According to the College Sports Network's advanced QB+ metric, Klubnik ranks as the seventh-best returning quarterback in college football, positioning him as a legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy.

Klubnik's 2024 campaign was a resounding success, culminating in a dramatic ACC Championship victory over SMU where he was named the game's MVP for the second time in his career. This performance, a key factor in his impressive 82.2 (B-) QB+ grade, solidified his status as a clutch performer and a leader capable of elevating his team in high-stakes moments.
The CSN QB+ metric, which weighs stable performance factors like clean pocket passing and designed rushing success more heavily, highlights the core strengths of Klubnik's game. One of his most impressive attributes is his composure under duress. Only two other returning quarterbacks in the nation posted a better pressured EPA per dropback (0.1) than Klubnik last season, a testament to his calm presence in the pocket when chaos erupts.
While his overall grade was slightly dampened by a tough season-opening loss to Georgia (66.8, D grade), Klubnik's body of work speaks for itself. He consistently performed at a high level, logging four games with an 80+ grade.

Statistically, Klubnik was prolific. He led all returning quarterbacks with an impressive 36 passing touchdowns in 2024. Within the ACC, his dominance was even more apparent. According to TruMedia, he paced all returning conference quarterbacks in total pass EPA (114.19). A constant big-play threat, Klubnik tied for the ACC lead with seven plays of 50 or more yards and recorded more 20+ yard plays (57) than any other quarterback returning to the conference in 2025.

His efficiency was also top-tier, boasting a 6.0 touchdown-to-interception ratio, second only to Georgia Tech's Haynes King among returning ACC signal-callers.
As Klubnik enters his third season at the helm of Garrett Riley's offense, expectations are soaring. With another year of experience and a proven track record of success, a trip to New York for the Heisman ceremony is a realistic goal. If he can build upon his 2024 performance and continue his upward trajectory, Klubnik has the potential to not only lead Clemson to another ACC title but also contend for a national championship.

Ohio State Gets Great News on 'Elite' Star Quarterback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ohio State Buckeyes have become a mecca of sorts for high school quarterbacks at their summer camp this week. Another top future signal-caller came to Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday. Advertisement On3's Mick Walker reported that 2027 five-star quarterback Elijah Haven was set to visit the Buckeyes' campus on Thursday. The highly regarded signal-caller could be closing in on an offer from Ohio State. "Ohio State not offered the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Haven, but quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler has been evaluating him," Walker wrote on Wednesday. On3 ranks Haven as the top quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 9 overall prospect. Overall, he is ranked No. 22 in the class according to the composite rankings. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has projected Haven to land with the LSU Tigers. Haven also has the Michigan Wolverines high on his list of schools. But an offer from the reigning national champions could always shake things up. Walker added Wednesday that Haven will be one of four Louisiana prospects in Columbus this week. The other three were expected to be wide receiver Miguel Whitley, offensive lineman Zyion Wesley and safety Emmanuel Moses. On3's Mick Walker reported Monday that Ohio State was set to host six of the top 25 quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class at their summer camp this week. The Buckeyes have already received two verbal commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, and one of them is a quarterback: four-star prospect Brady Edmunds. Toronto Raptors could pivot from Giannis Antetokounmpo trade for this multi-time All-Star
If they got their way, the Toronto Raptors would emerge from this offseason as winners of the potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sweepstakes. Yet, there's no guarantee the Milwaukee Bucks are even open to trading the face of their franchise. Thus, if the Raptors can't build a trade proposal strong enough for the Bucks to bite, they need to have other options available. However, based on the latest report, the Raptors will indeed be prepared to swing for the fences for another blockbuster trade. Advertisement According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Raptors could be a team that makes a play for 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. With the Phoenix Suns already widely expected to trade Durant, it only makes sense for Toronto to get a price check on the future Hall of Famer. 'But Toronto has likewise been painted by numerous NBA figures as a potential trade suitor for Durant … particularly if Antetokounmpo doesn't reach the open market. The Raptors, furthermore, would figure to have a more realistic shot at assembling a competitive trade offer for Durant compared to the mammoth offers that the Bucks would inevitably seek for Antetokounmpo's services. The Greek Freak also happens to be six years younger than Durant, is still playing at an MVP level and, most crucially, has two more guaranteed years left on his contract.' Marc Stein on Toronto Raptors' interest in Kevin Durant While Antetokounmpo would be the more celebrated trade, he's also much more expensive to acquire, and that's if he's even remotely available. Thus, trading for a 36-year-old Durant would be far more feasible. Not only would trading for Durant require the Raptors to part with fewer assets, he's guaranteed to be available, unlike chasing after Antetokounmpo, which could result in a gigantic waste of time. Aaron Rodgers to join the Ravens' AFC North rival on a one-year deal
In a move that could make the AFC North the most watched division in football, Aaron Rodgers is set to sign a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gerry Dulac reports. Adam Schefter reports that Rodgers is heading to Pittsburgh and will participate in the team's mandatory minicamp next week. Rodgers' decision has been the largest domino for the Steelers, and now the 41-year-old quarterback will head to the AFC North where he'll matchup with Joe Burrow (Bengals), Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett (Browns), and Ravens MVP candidate, Lamar Jackson. Rodgers now has about three months to build chemistry with new top wideout DK Metcalf and to adapt to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's scheme before the season opens against his former team, the New York Jets, and their former Steelers quarterback, Justin Fields. After missing all but one game in 2023 due to an Achilles injury, Rodgers suited up for all 17 regular-season games with the Jets in 2024. Rodgers completed 368 of 584 pass attempts (63 percent) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
