TAPS adapting to care for dogs dropped off by breeder

PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — Already over puppy capacity yet still willing to nurse 24 dogs back to health after being dropped off at their front door.
Tazwell Animal Protective Society, or 'TAPS' in Pekin, is asking for your support as they stretch their resources thin.
On Friday, the executive director of TAPS said the person who bred the dogs that were dropped off was doing it unlawfully. At first, TAPS was informed about receiving 24 dogs, but now, they have received a dozen more.
TAPS Executive Director Tori Menke said there's not enough space for them, but she's willing to make it work for their shot at a better life.
'Some breeders are not good breeders, they're not ethical breeders, is what I would say,' Menke said. 'They breed for profit and that's all they care about. So when you get some of these dogs from these houses, they have never seen a vet, they've never seen another human, they've never been outside the house. Something like grass is completely new to these dogs.'
Taps is collaborating with other local shelters in Fulton County, Peoria, and more to give these dogs proper care.
When it comes to fostering, Pet Pack Rescue Initiative said there's always a need.
'There are a lot of dogs that are currently looking for rescue throughout the central Illinois area, and there are not enough foster homes currently available to take all of the dogs that need assistance,' Alyssa Emanuelson, board president of Pet Pack Rescue Initiative said. 'It doesn't matter which rescue or animal control you are talking about. We are all foster-based and we need more fosters to be able to pull dogs.'
