2025 Easter Basket Must-Haves: PEEPS Candy Shoes, Purses and Jewelry
Hop into spring with Betsey Johnson's PEEP purses and wallets.
What are America's favorite Easter candies? According to DoorDash, the most popular Easter candies are Reese's Eggs, Cadbury mini eggs and chocolate bunnies, to name a few. Yet no other sweet treat screams Easter like PEEPS candy does. Love them or loathe them, Peeps are the very adorable cockroaches of the candy world—brightly colored, impossibly squishy, and seemingly indestructible. But before these little sugar bombs became the unofficial mascot of Easter (and an inexplicable year-round treat) with loads of PEEPS fashion collaborations, they had a much humbler beginning.
Back in 1910, a Russian immigrant named Sam Born founded Just Born, a candy company in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Fast-forward to 1953, and Just Born acquires Rodda Candy Company, which was making marshmallow chicks by hand. The catch? Each Peep took 27 hours to make, due to the drying time! That's longer than it takes to roast a honey ham, drive across Texas, or binge-watch all three seasons of White Lotus. Enter Bob Born—Sam's son—who mechanized the process, slashing production time down to just six minutes per Peep. Efficiency had never been so... perfectly pastel.

Originally, Peeps only came in yellow chick form. And the bunnies were rolled out in the 1980s. But because Americans can't resist playing with perfection (or making things more neon), they expanded into bunnies, pumpkins, Christmas trees, and even a questionable hot tamale-flavored version. Enough to circle the earth two and a half times, two billion Peeps are manufactured annually.
This year the creative iterations continue. Just Born introduced Strawberry Marshmallow Chicks dipped in milk chocolate (yes, they're wearing dessert couture). Need more snack with your snack? Grab the Rice Krispies Treats Chicks, basically two childhood icons in one. Chocolate Pudding Bunnies are also hopping in—like pudding cups, but fluffier.
And there's a few new store-exclusive PEEPS flavors for 2025. Walmart gets the goods with Breyers Cookies & Cream Chicks and individually wrapped Egg Hunt Chicks for strategic egg-stashing. Dollar Tree is selling Tropical Punch Bunnies, while Kroger wins the flavor crown with Cinnamon Churro PEEPS.
Pour this over a bowl of Lucky Charms for marshmallow nirvana.
There's even Peeps marshmallow flavored milk! Look for the PEEPS x Promised Land Dairy brand at select grocery stores. Sweet tooth: activated.
And if you ever doubted their star power, just know there's annual Peeps diorama contests held at many locations across the country where people create intricate scenes—like Peeps reenacting Game of Thrones.
So, whether you eat them, explode them in the microwave (highly recommended), or hoard them for scientific experiments to test their shelf life—rumor has it they never actually go bad, Peeps are here to stay. Need more proof of Peeps' power? Browse the Easter holiday aisles at your local Wal-Mart. It's an absolute peeptastic wonderland of Peeps-themed merch.
In addition, PEEPS has hopped into some delightful collaborations, blending their iconic marshmallow charm with other beloved brands. Here's a peep at these fun partnerships:

Tears, tattoos, Cartier watches: fan frenzy at BTS army discharge
South Korea's Yeoncheon county, just kilometres from the heavily fortified border with the nuclear-armed North, is best known for its honey. But on Wednesday, it was flooded with K-pop supergroup BTS fans. Despite pleas from the band's agency HYBE to stay away from the area where members Jimin and Jungkook were being released from mandatory military service, a screaming, weeping frenzy ensued early Wednesday. Decked out in the band's signature purple, and some even sporting BTS tattoos, fans began gathering at 3 am. Some had flown in from Brazil and Indonesia, eager to catch the first glimpse of the pair after their discharge. As the two BTS stars emerged, fans screamed, cried and hugged each other. Wu Ruohan, an 18-year-old Chinese fan, said this was her "dream come true". Their release means that six of the seven members of BTS have now finished their service. The final member -- SUGA -- is due out on June 21, bringing the group one step closer to reunion and new music. Security moved the cordons to keep fans at bay as Jimin and Jungkook arrived, dressed in camouflage military uniforms, AFP journalists saw. The K-pop idols, who have spent 18 months on the frontline with North Korea serving in the 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade, thanked the crowd for waiting for them. "It's been a while since I've been in front of a camera, and I'm a bit embarrassed because I didn't even put on makeup," said Jungkook, who looked slightly flustered at the mass gathering. Jimin confessed they had gone for a 5 am jog, hoping to look their best. The pair bowed to fans and media before getting into a black minivan and driving off, promising to speak on their superfan platform WeVerse later. - 'Not real fans'? - Online, fans bickered about whether it was right to turn up at the bases, against requests from HYBE and BTS. Before they enlisted, the BTS members had knelt during a live broadcast to earnestly entreat their fans not to show up at army bases as they entered military life. "They're not real fans, the boys even knelt and begged for them to not come," one social media user wrote, sharing screenshots of those at the scene, in a seeming effort to shame them. Experts have said the members will likely have a "visual adjustment period" of a few months, while they grow out their military buzz cuts and hone their K-pop look. Even so, fashion enthusiasts were looking for any scraps of personality amid their military attire, seizing on the watch worn by member V who was discharged Tuesday. His Cartier piece was estimated to be worth around 20 million won ($14,649). In contrast, his bandmate RM wore an affordable Casio. But to the disappointment of online sleuths, neither Jimin nor Jungkook wore a watch on Wednesday. On Friday, the seven-member group celebrates the 12th anniversary of its debut, known as FESTA. Fans from around the world are pouring into South Korea for the occasion. On Wednesday, thousands of people were seen outside HYBE's headquarters in downtown Seoul waiting for vans carrying the stars to arrive. While waiting to see their idols, fans sang along to BTS songs and chanted 'Jimin, Jungkook,' as multiple local broadcasters aired the scene live. Local media were seemingly taken aback by the huge interest in the releases and called the reunion a "revival of the K-pop industry". aw-hs-ceb/lb

K-pop stars Jimin and Jung Kook of BTS discharged from military service as band's reunion nears
K-pop superstars Jimin and Jung Kook are the latest and final members of BTS to be discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service. The pair wore their military uniforms Wednesday, saluted and addressed fans who had assembled to see the pair after their discharge. Jung Kook thanked the journalists and fans who traveled to see him and Jimin after their discharge and acknowledged how different it was to be back in the spotlight. 'Actually, it's been so long since I've been in front of cameras, and I didn't even put on makeup, so I'm a bit embarrassed,' he said. 'I don't know what to say.' They saluted upon their release Tuesday in Chuncheon City as about 200 fans, some of whom traveled from Mexico, Turkey and Brazil, cheered. V thanked fans Tuesday for their patience in waiting for him and RM's return and teased the band's reunion. 'If you can just wait a little bit longer, we will return with a really amazing performance.' Advertisement The seven singers of the popular K-pop band plan to reunite as a group sometime in 2025 after they finish their service. Six of the group's seven members served in the army, while Suga is fulfilling his duty as a social service agent, an alternative form of military service. He will be discharged later this month. Jin, the oldest member of K-pop supergroup BTS, was discharged in June 2024. J-Hope was discharged in October. 3 K-pop band BTS's members RM and V react after being discharged from a mandatory military service on June 10, 2025 in Chuncheon, South Korea. AFP via Getty Images In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 are required by law to perform 18-21 months of military service under a conscription system meant to deter aggression from rival North Korea. The law gives special exemptions to athletes, classical and traditional musicians, and ballet and other dancers if they have obtained top prizes in certain competitions and are assessed to have enhanced national prestige. K-pop stars and other entertainers aren't subject to such privileges. Advertisement However, in 2020, BTS postponed their service until age 30 after South Korea's National Assembly revised its Military Service Act, allowing K-pop stars to delay their enlistment until age 30. There was heated public debate in 2022 over whether to offer special exemptions of mandatory military service for BTS members, until the group's management agency announced in October 2022 that all seven members would fulfill their duties.
