The New York Rangers are entering a crucial offseason that could see them move on from a few players. Multiple key pieces to the Rangers' success could be on the move, including defenseman K'Andre Miller.

Miller has been a highly talked-about name in trade rumors, and it could see New York move on from him. One team that could be interesting as a landing spot for the defenseman is the Seattle Kraken.
The Kraken missed the postseason this past season, finishing the year with a record of 35-41-6. Seattle has been pushing toward getting back to the playoffs, but they haven't found much consistency on the ice.
One way to make that happen could be for the team to be aggressive in adding talent this offseason. Seattle has plenty of cap space to work with, opening the door for a potential deal between the two sides.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report linked the two teams together.

"They have some salary-cap flexibility; they have a need; and they have plenty of draft capital over the next few years. Miller could arrive in Seattle and immediately be one of its best all-around defensemen and bring some much-needed mobility and offensive upside.", Gertz said.

Miller could instantly spark the defensive unit of the team, even with him putting up a down season of seven goals and 20 assists last year. The star ranked 50th out of 214 defenders, who logged at least 500 minutes of ice time, by being on the ice for 2.78 goals per 60 minutes.
The defender has all the potential in the world to keep getting better, and a team like Seattle could be perfect for him. Due to the Kraken having loads of draft capital to work with, the Rangers and them could likely come to terms on a deal.

Seattle needs to start pushing toward contention, and adding a player like Miller could be exactly what they are missing. The Kraken have missed the playoffs three of four seasons, but this offseason could be a time to change the trajectory of the franchise.

Welcome to Trendlines, your weekly installment of what's trending up and what's trending down in sports. This week we're talking about the NBA Finals, and the emergence of the small market team. Think about the iconic NBA franchises: The Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and, if you indulge me, the New York Knickerbockers. This NBA Finals features two nicknames to never win an NBA title: the Thunder and Pacers. These two teams are from not-so-iconic American cities: Oklahoma City and Indianapolis. So let's start there with a big downswing. I'm being a bit charitable here with being down 3 million. I've rounded down. Indianapolis has a little over 1 million homes in its media market. Oklahoma City has well under a million. Combined they have a little less than 2 million homes. What a change from 2024 when the Finals teams (Boston and Dallas) each have over 2 million homes in their media markets. But it's not just from last year from which we've seen a tremendous shift. Indeed, I plugged in the current media market size for every Finals team since the early 1980s. Based on the current rankings, this is the Finals with the smallest teams' media markets in at least the last 40 years. It's not just the media markets where we can see how the Pacers and Thunder are small markets. Take a look at the valuation for each franchise. Both teams are worth under $4 billion. Now, that is still a billion with a 'b', but last year the two teams were worth about $5 billion on average. The fact that we have one small market team in the Finals isn't that unusual. Both of these teams have been in the finals before. What makes this year truly unique is that we have two teams worth so little at the same time. In fact, there hasn't been an NBA Finals' with two teams in the bottom 10 in the league in terms of worth since at least the early 1990s. Small market doesn't mean unexciting. Tyrese Haliburton ridiculously clutch shooting in Game 1 proves that. What makes Haliburton's production so amazing is he was still 24 on February 1 of this year. He's one of 18 players who have suited up for these squads who were under 25 on that date. That's a record since at least the early 1980s These are young and fresh players beyond just Haliburton. Thunder's star Jalen Williams clocks in at a mere 24 years old. His teammate Chet Holmgren is 23. We're looking at squads that could be good for years to come. Dare I say that, by the time it's all done, it may be Bulls, Celtics, Knicks, Lakers… and Pacers or Thunder on the pantheon of iconic NBA teams.

Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles received harsh backlash on social media after the gymnastics star sparred with former 12-time NCAA All-American swimmer Riley Gaines over the debate surrounding transgender athletes competing in girls' and women's sports. Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer and current OutKick contributor and host of the "Gaines for Girls" podcast, took to X on Friday to call out the Minnesota State High School League for posting a picture of the new state champions, Champlin Park High School. In 2022, World Aquatics, the international governing body for swimming, updated its eligibility policy to effectively ban transgender athletes from competing in women's events. The following year, the organization launched and debuted an open category at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Berlin. The organization later confirmed that upon the close of registration, no entries had been received for the open category. Biles is an 11-time Olympic medalist. She holds 30 world championship medals, including a record 23 gold. She has not responded on social media following her initial posts aimed at Gaines.
