A club in Heaton is welcoming new members in a bid to raise funds for new accessible facilities on site.
Nestled at the end of Waddington Road, Heaton Village Club is a local treasure that aims to foster community and friendships in the area.
The club, which was established in 1897, has revealed plans to make its clubhouse and pavilion more accessible and user-friendly through a new side extension that would enable wheelchair users to access the toilet more easily.

To help fund their improvements, the club has launched a crowdfunding campaign, which has been backed by local grants from the ward fund and via BoltonCVS.
Club chairman Andrew Minors said: 'The club already boasts some great facilities including a bowling green, two full-sized snooker tables which are over 100 years old, two bridge clubs, Tai Chi classes, a book club, table tennis, a Canasta group and much more.
The downstairs area functions as a communal space and kitchen. (Image: Leah Collins) 'There's also a kitchen area, social spaces and an outdoor pavilion.
'We currently have around 150 members, there's a mix of members. It's a big part of Heaton's community.
'We also work alongside three local schools to teach them how to bowl, we work alongside as many as we can to really involve ourselves in the local community. Just this morning, we had around 30 children here playing.'

Beyond regular activities, the club's rooms are also available to hire for community and private events.
Membership prices for the club range from £38 to £125 annually, with more details available on the club website.
In 2022, the clubhouse had its toilet facilities renovated, including the installation of an accessible lift for wheelchair users.
Club president George Waters said: 'The club was established in 1887, and the building was built in 1891. The property was donated to the club in 1934, which was my year of birth.
'Members here have joined as individuals but have become friends, people join and come to play bowls or snooker, whatever it is. There is a sense of community.'
Andrew added: 'It can be a lifeline to people; we have members here from the local area who come here to get out and make it a bit of a social occasion.
The club's leadership is hoping to welcome in more members. (Image: Leah Collins) 'The club has two bowling teams now, we've had to create a second one to accommodate for the extra members.
'We are trying to modernise using the skills that people have in order to pool together, we want to reach a bigger audience on social media to get more interest in membership.
Inside, the club also has two large snooker tables, each over 100 years old. (Image: Leah Collins) 'The club doesn't sell any alcohol, but there's always events going on – in the past we've had Christmas-themed events, ABBA nights.
"We want people to make it their own and have fun.'
Cllr Andy Morgan, deputy Mayor of Bolton said: "From Macmillan Coffee Mornings to christenings, it's a versatile space full of character and community spirit.
"To help fund their improvements, Heaton Village Club has launched a crowdfunding campaign and we were delighted to support them by offering guidance on accessing local grants from our ward fund and through the BoltonCVS.

Browne wins Supersport at Tandragee as Dunlop on pole

Mike Browne won the opening Supersport event at the Tandragee 100 road races on Friday evening while Michael Dunlop set the pole position time for Saturday's two Open races at the county Armagh circuit. Riding his BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha, Browne led throughout the four-lap race and finished half a second ahead of Michael Sweeney, who was also Yamaha-mounted. Advertisement Dunlop had encountered difficulties in qualifying so started from 17th on the grid but ended up third on corrected time after setting the fastest lap of the race at 107.445mph on his Milwaukee V2 Ducati on his final circuit. The Ballymoney rider finished 2.7 seconds adrift of Skerries man Sweeney. Manxman Conor Cummins, Darryl Tweed and Shaun Anderson rounded out the top six in the Supersports, who will have another outing on Saturday. Earlier, record 33-time Isle of Man TT winner Dunlop lapped the 5.3-mile course at an average speed of 107.97mph on his MD Racing BMW Superstock machine to register the quickest ever qualifying lap at the event in the Open class. Advertisement That left the Ballymoney rider with 2.78 seconds to spare over nearest challenger Sweeney, who posted a 106.308 on his MJ Racing BMW. The top six qualifying leaderboard for the Open class was completed by Browne (105.866), Cummins (105.035), Anderson (105.021) and Marcus Simpson (102.846). Cork man Browne recorded the quickest lap in Supersport qualifying, 2.8 seconds ahead of Sweeney, with that order subsequently being replicated in the race. Tweed from Ballymoney was third, Anderson fourth and Cummins fifth on his Ducati. Manxman Cummins, 39, is making his first appearance at the event since his only previous visit back in 2007 and is riding for the Burrows Engineering/RK Racing team. Advertisement Dunlop was an early retirement back to the paddock in Supersport qualifying but later completed a lap on the machine at the back of the group in the Senior Support session. The 36-year-old, who picked up a treble at this year's North West 200 and a four-timer at the recent TT Races, is aiming to add to his 11 previous Tandragee race wins as he competes at the meeting for the first time since 2013, when he sealed a Superbike double. Sweeney topped the timesheets in the Supertwins qualifying, which was initially red-flagged. The Republic of Ireland rider circulated at 102.344mph on his Aprilia 660, followed by Tweed (100.228), Barry Furber (99.886), Joe Yeardsley (99.428) and Simpson (99.387). Advertisement Anderson headed the Classic Superbike qualifying and Tweed the Lightweight category. The Tandragee 100 is taking place for the first time since 2022 after essential resurfacing work on a section of the circuit was completed, with this the 61st running of the races. An 11-race programme is scheduled for Saturday, with roads closing at 09:30 BST and the first action on track at 10:00.

Wilfried Zaha makes Everton transfer admission after failed £50m bid and club statement

Wilfried Zaha said he was open to joining Everton when the club moved for him back in 2019. Then at Crystal Palace, the winger was the subject of a disputed and protracted series of negotiations that saw the Blues publicly deny some of the reports surrounding their interest. Advertisement They did acknowledge a bid for the former Manchester United player - and he has now revealed the interest went both ways. Then 26, Zaha's future was up in the air six summers ago. Arsenal went into the close season favourites to sign the Ivory Coast international but ended up moving for Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe. Advertisement When reports then surfaced about a second bid of cash and players, the Blues went public to try and close them down, issuing a statement that said: "Everton Football Club categorically denies that a bid has been submitted to Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha that included an increased sum plus Cenk Tosun and James McCarthy. Everton and Crystal Palace have a very good relationship. "A bid was made over the weekend which was turned down. Both clubs agreed that was the end of the matter." Zaha, who is now 32 and playing in the US with Charlotte having been loaned there by Galatasaray, was asked about the saga while being interviewed on the Real Spill podcast, explaining he was interested in a move to join Marco Silva at Goodison Park. He said: 'They were in for me and I was open to it, I was open to the move but things didn't work out."

Arsenal legend makes controversial claim about Liverpool £200m transfer business

Former Arsenal favourite Charlie Nicholas believes Florian Wirtz's transfer won't prove to be "a massive jump forward" for Premier League champions Liverpool. And the former Scotland international has also claimed the addition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth is not a huge upgrade on Andy Robertson at left-back. Advertisement The Reds confirmed the £116m addition of Wirtz last week in a deal that could become a British record if the add-ons are achieved, while the capture of Kerkez at £40m was also confirmed on Thursday. Both targets are part of what has so far been a hugely exciting transfer window so far for the Reds, who will welcome the June additions alongside £29m pair Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili to pre-season training on July 7. READ MORE: Liverpool chairman Tom Werner on Arne Slot, historic transfer spend and FSG's future Anfield plans READ MORE: Alexander Isak Liverpool transfer next step clear as fee and wages positions explained Advertisement However, Nicholas, who won the League Cup with Arsenal in 1987, scoring twice in their 2-1 Wembley win over Liverpool, remains unconvinced by the champions' summer business so far, which has cost more than £200m, telling Sky Bet: 'Liverpool have made some interesting moves so far this window. "Is Milos Kerkez going to be better than Andy Robertson? I don't think so and don't think their defence has drastically improved. "Florian Wirtz is a fantastic signing, but he may take time to settle - the buzz is mainly around the big fee paid, like when Arsenal signed Declan Rice. "Everyone at the time thought that fee was ridiculous, but he's proved to be a valuable signing. I'm sure Wirtz will be too, but I don't think it's a massive jump forward for Liverpool. Advertisement 'As for Manchester City, they've signed well, but not overwhelmingly so. They need to replace Kevin De Bruyne and get far more out of Phil Foden, and the new signings will take time to settle in. "The big thing they are waiting for is Rodri's return from injury but defensively I don't see them being much better than last season. I think the league is a three-horse race again - Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.' Nicholas also gave his verdict on Darwin Nunez, who is the subject of interest from Napoli, adding: 'Nunez has good assets - his pace, movement, bravery - but his big disappointment has been his erratic finishing. "It's as if the pressure got too much for him. When you see Luis Diaz and Mo Salah being calm in important moments, he just never seemed to produce that. When the pressure is on you, and you're not getting in the team, and it sounds like he's had rows with Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, asking why he's not in the team, and they would've probably said the same as me. Advertisement 'He's not handled the pressure of being a finisher for a club this well. Saying that, we're waiting on one big striker transfer in the Premier League that will set a domino effect for a lot of clubs. "I think he could still do a great job in the Premier League, but I don't think he'll be looking to stay - he should go somewhere else in Europe and re-establish himself. He needs a clean break.'
