Publix is only closed 3 days a year. Are Florida stores open on 2025 Easter holiday?

Yahoo19-04-2025

Of all the holidays celebrated in a year, Publix is only closed for three of them: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
On the retail side, holidays are so popular, businesses try to cash in on deals or longer hours to shop. But for one of Florida's largest grocery chains, Publix, you can't shop on Easter Sunday.
Easter is a lot more than its commercial side of bunnies, chocolates and egg hunts. It is considered one of the most important holidays in Christianity (see below) and all Publix locations are closed that day.
Easter Sunday for churches on the Western calendar is on April 20, 2025.
Easter honors the resurrection of Jesus — a Jewish man from Nazareth in modern-day Israel considered by followers as the Messiah — three days after his crucifixion, which occurred about 2,000 years ago. For many Christian denominations, Easter is the joyful conclusion to the Lenten season of devoted prayer, fasting and penitence.
Easter is, by modern definition, an annual Christian festival in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox by churches, typically with Western European roots on the Gregorian calendar. In Eastern or Orthodox churches, Easter's date is often different because the date relies on the Julian calendar, and Orthodox Christians do not celebrate Easter during Passover, but always after.
Orthodox Easter Sunday is on April 20, 2025, the same day as Western Easter.
Easter also is a celebration of spring and new life, thus the celebratory incorporation of eggs, flowers and bunnies.
There are 12 federal holidays in the U.S. Easter, which is always on a Sunday, is not a federal holiday.
Officially, in the U.S. there are 12 federal holidays in a year, along with numerous religious holidays, lots of "faux" holidays and unofficial holidays (we're looking at you, Super Bowl Sunday).
Like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Easter Sunday is among the dozen federal holidays per year. However, banks, libraries and post offices are usually closed anyway on Sundays.
If you're anticipating a Publix grocery store run on Easter Sunday, you'll have to go elsewhere. All Publix locations will be closed. The Lakeland-based grocery store chain employs more than 255,000 people with almost 1,400 stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Florida is home to more than 870 stores as of March 2025.
Of all the holidays throughout the year, Publix stores are only closed three days a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Publix locations in Florida are open on federal holidays such as Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth and Labor Day, though some locations may close early. The grocery chain does close early on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, posting open and closing times on signs in their stores before the holidays. Shoppers can select Publix locations online for specific store hours and other details.
A notice on Publix's corporate site states: "Since our founding, we have been closed on these three holidays in observance of the holiday and to allow our associates time with family and friends."

No. Publix locations in Florida and other states will not be open on Easter Sunday, which is Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Typically, Publix stores are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with some locations open an hour later.
Publix liquor stores typically are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Like the main grocery, Publix Liquor stores are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Regular store hours will apply for Publix Liquor locations — 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Publix pharmacies usually are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but some sites may vary. Publix pharmacies are also closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Free picnic with food boxes for more than 100 people in Exmouth

Exmouth Hope Church is throwing a free community picnic in Phear Park. On Saturday, June 14, more than 100 people who register will receive free individual picnic boxes, with food provided by Launchpad in Budleigh Salterton. The church has invited people to join them to explore questions about life and faith. The church believes that 'the Christian faith is all about a loving God rescuing a broken world through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus'. The church said its mission is to bring the "good news of Jesus and love of God" to the local community.

The faith-related surprise in a new survey on famous quotes

The United Kingdom may no longer be a majority Christian country, but 8 in 10 people there still recognize a famous Christian prayer, according to new research from the Church of England. The survey found that more people in the U.K. recognized an excerpt from the Lord's Prayer than recognized quotes from William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and the British national anthem. 'Overall, the phrase from the Lord's Prayer was recognised correctly by the largest number of people (80.3%), just ahead of Star Wars (79.9%),' per a Church of England press release. The survey, which was fielded by Savanta among more than 2,000 people in the United Kingdom from May 23 to May 26, tested participants' knowledge of popular phrases from religion, sports, politics and culture. People were given seven famous phrases — including 'May the force be with you' from 'Star Wars' — and asked to match them to their source from a list of correct answers. 'Give us this day our daily bread' was the phrase used from the Lord's Prayer. As the press release noted, survey participants were particularly good at recognizing the quotes from religion and pop culture. They were particularly bad at identifying 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,' a quote from Dickens. 'A minority of those surveyed (39%) correctly identified the opening line from Dickens's 'A Tale of Two Cities,'' the Church of England reported. The Lord's Prayer comes from the Bible, where it appears twice: in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. It's widely used in Christianity, but different Christian traditions use slightly different versions of it, in part because of disagreements over how to translate the Bible passages. Here is the text of the traditional version of the Lord's Prayer that's used by the Church of England: 'Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.' The new survey also investigated which parts of the Lord's Prayer stand out to people in the U.K. Survey respondents were given the text and asked to identify which lines were most meaningful to them. 'The most commonly selected line was '… and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us' with 43% overall and more than half (56%) of Christians surveyed," the Church of England reported. The Lord's Prayer survey was released just ahead of a new Pew Research Center report showing that Christianity is declining in the United Kingdom. Pew found that the U.K. is one of four countries that stopped being majority Christian from between 2010 and 2020. 'As of 2020, Christians were a majority in 120 countries and territories, down from 124 a decade earlier. Christians dropped below 50% of the population in the United Kingdom (49%), Australia (47%), France (46%) and Uruguay (44%). In each of these places, religiously unaffiliated people now account for 40% or more of the population,' Pew reported.
