These MSI laptops look unlike any computer I've seen before
MSI makes some of the most popular gaming laptops kicking about – packing in raw power to play top titles. But now, it seems the brand is turning attention to how its laptops look. And the design team at MSI has clearly thrown out the rulebook. The brand's Computex 2025 line-up is bursting with collaborations that have produced truly unique laptop designs, unlike anything I've ever seen.
The most striking of the bunch has got to be the Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition. This one's a lacquered slice of Japanese history that also happens to pack an Intel Ultra 9 chip and a stunning OLED display. MSI partnered with Okadaya, a traditional lacquerware artisan, to cover the laptop in 400-year-old Yamanaka lacquer techniques. All while it slaps Hokusai's 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' on the lid. The result is something that looks more at home in an art gallery than on your lap in a coffee shop.
Then there's the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport collection, which looks the part. The Stealth A16 AI+ and Prestige 16 AI+ Mercedes-AMG editions come decked out with co-branded logos, AMG patterns, and enough power under the hood to make most desktop PCs flinch. The Stealth version goes all-in with AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX and NVIDIA's fresh-out-the-lab RTX 5070 GPU, while the Prestige 16 leans into an Intel build and wraps the whole thing in a 4K OLED display that's almost too pretty to work on. As if that wasn't enough, MSI throws in matching AMG-branded accessories.
And just when you thought MSI might be running out of ways to surprise you, in come the Claws. The Claw A8 and Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition are handheld gaming PCs that look like they've crash-landed from a sci-fi set. The Polar Tempest version is especially frosty, with a white finish and glittering UV coating that will definitely stand out at your next LAN part. One is powered by AMD, the other by Intel, because choice is the new luxury. And yes, you can get them in other colours too.
The Prestige 13 AI+ Ukiyo-e Edition, Stealth A16 AI+ Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, Prestige 16 AI+ Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, Claw A8, and Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition are all expected to be available later this year, though MSI hasn't dropped official pricing just yet.

It's also possibly the first time a chair has been compared to an Audi climate control system. Plus, there's HygennX tech going on to keep your set-up smelling like a showroom, not a locker room. It involves coffee grounds and silver threads in the chairs' material. If you're the kind of petrolhead who wants your backside supported with the same engineering ethos that went into an R8's seat bolsters, these gaming chairs might be worth a look. The SL3800 Audi Edition is going for $499, the SL5800 RS Edition lands at $599, and the PL4800 Audi Sport Edition tops the trio at $699. They're available for pre-order from Vertagear now, and ship in July.

Acer's newest release was a total surprise – you'll never guess what it is
So far at Computex 2025, Acer has released some excellent new computing devices – as you'd expect. My favourite so far has been the lightweight Swift Edge 14 that competes with the MacBook Air. But Acer's newest release was a total surprise – a health-tracking smart ring. Yep, I'll say it again. A health-tracking smart ring. I wear the Ultrahuman Air smart ring to track my steps and sleep when I don't want to wear my Apple Watch. It looks great, works really well, and even syncs with Apple Health. And other options from Samsung and Oura are quite popular. But Acer isn't a brand I expected to make a health wearable. That said, it seems the brand has done a good job. The FreeSense ring goes for $199 and doesn't require a monthly subscription – a big tick in my book. Wrapped in a lightweight titanium alloy, the FreeSense Ring aims to blend in while monitoring everything from your heart rate and HRV to blood oxygen levels and sleep. It comes in seven sizes and weighs just 2 to 3 grams. It's water resistant up to 50 metres and, crucially, doesn't look like you've strapped a fitness tracker to your knuckle. Of course, it's not just about looking slick. The real pitch here is wellness tracking without the monthly wallet drain. Unlike Oura, Acer isn't asking for a subscription to access the good stuff. That includes AI-driven insights via the companion app, which will analyse your vitals and spit out lifestyle advice. Whether these insights actually help you live better or just guilt-trip you into going to bed earlier remains to be seen. Battery life is pegged at four days, which, let's be honest, isn't exactly brag-worthy compared to some of the competition, but still nothing to be sniffed at. And there's a whiff of possibility that Acer might integrate the ring into its wider ecosystem in the future. Imagine waving your finger to pause a video on your Acer laptop or unlocking your device like a wizard. The Acer FreeSense Ring will be available from August with a price tag of $199 to $250. It comes in seven different sizes, and either matte rose gold or glossy black. As I mentioned, you don't need a subscription to access health data the ring collects.

My favourite gaming laptop just got a lot more affordable with this new Nvidia GPU
With great 3D performance for its size and surprisingly decent battery life, the Zephyrus G14 has long been one of my favourite gaming laptops. Earlier this year, Asus made it that much harder to resist breaking out the credit card and buying one. The 2024 Zephyrus G14 was a fantastic little laptop, but it maxed out with an RTX 4070. The 2025 Zephyrus G14 got enough cooling ability to cope with the demands of the new RTX 5080. 16GB of GDDR7 video memory and DLSS 4.0 support allowed this 1.5kg machine to power through even the most demanding games, with fancy effects like ray tracing enabled. It's paired with AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, up to 64GB of RAM, and 'multiple terabytes' of speedy SSD storage. But if you don't need that much graphical grunt, the new RTX 5060 version could be the one to go for. It dials things back just enough to bring the price down without gutting the machine's core appeal. You're still getting that gorgeous 3K 120Hz OLED display, and even with less GPU muscle, the RTX 5060 is no slouch. Nvidia reckons it's a solid 20% leap over the RTX 4060. It adds Multi Frame Generation to push frame rates even higher. Combine that with a slimmer, lighter build than almost anything else in its class and a new $1800 price tag, and it's looking like an easy sell. The larger Zephyrus G16 is also getting the RTX 5060 treatment, just like its little brother. The rest of Asus' ROG and TUF gaming laptop line-up is also joining the 5060 party. That's seven new machines in total, now offering cheaper configurations that undercut their 5070-toting siblings by around $300 to $400. The Strix G16 and G18 are basically more straightforward versions of the RGB-soaked Strix Scar models. The G16 starts at $1500 and tops out at $2100, covering the full span of the RTX 5060 range. Then there's the TUF Gaming range. The A14, A16, A18, and F16 all now come with RTX 5060 options. These are clearly built to hit price points, but they're still more than capable for mid-range gaming. You're looking at refresh rates of at least 144Hz, and port selections that are mildly embarrassing – the A18 still includes a USB 2.0 plug. The range starts at $1600 thanks to the RTX 5060.
