Sam Adekugbe, Brian White spark Whitecaps to 2-1 victory over Galaxy
Defender Sam Adekugbe scored early, Brian White scored late and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 on Sunday, handing the defending MLS Cup champions a second straight defeat to begin the season.
Following the lead of some Canadian fans at hockey and basketball games, many fans booed during "The Star-Spangled Banner" in reaction to President Donald Trump's planned tariffs and repeated remarks about making the country the 51st state.
Adekugbe scored unassisted in the 3rd minute to give the Whitecaps (2-0-0) the lead. It was his second goal of the season and his third in 44 appearances with the club.
L.A. pulled even in the 39th minute when Gabriel Pec used assists from Miguel Berry and 21-year-old rookie midfielder Elijah Wynder to score the Galaxy's first goal of the season. Pec had 16 goals and 14 assists as a rookie last season in the championship run. The Galaxy lost 2-0 to San Diego FC — an expansion team — in their home opener.
White's winner came in the 87th minute when he used his head to score off a long pass from Pedro Vite. It was the first goal for White, who is coming off back-to-back 15-goal seasons. Vite's helper was his first of the season and the ninth of his career.
Yohei Takaoka finished with one save for the Whitecaps.
Novak Micovic saved two shots in his sixth career start for the Galaxy.
Vancouver rolled to a 4-1 road victory over the Portland Timbers last week in the debut of head coach Jesper Sørensen. Newcomer Jayden Nelson stole the show in the match when he joined Alphonso Davis (2018) as the only Whitecaps to have a goal and three assists. He was the fourth player in club history with four goal contributions in a single match.
The Whitecaps will host CF Montreal on Saturday. The Galaxy return home to play St. Louis City on Sunday.

Warriors' Trade Target Gets Update After Recent Bulls Report
Warriors' Trade Target Gets Update After Recent Bulls Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the NBA offseason right around the corner with the NBA Finals beginning on Thursday, teams are preparing to make some crucial moves to upgrade their roster ahead of next season. Advertisement Among them are the Golden State Warriors, who are looking to upgrade their roster around their aging trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as they try to chase another championship next season. Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler (10) and guard Steph Curry (30).© David Gonzales-Imagn Images Of course, the Warriors have been linked to many players heading into the offseason including Giannis Antetokounmpo and a pair of Chicago Bulls stars in Nikola Vucevic and Coby White. On Tuesday, the Warriors received a major update regarding one of the Bulls' stars. 'This is outside speculative, but two different East personnel figures believe that the Bulls are unlikely to retain both Josh Giddey and Coby White. If Giddey gets locked in, White could be moved. I'm skeptical of that idea because that sounds like a radical concept for the Bulls and that doesn't sound like them. Saving money sounds like them, but not like this,' Hardwood Paroxysm reported. This is a massive update for both the Bulls and the Warriors as it appears that Chicago is looking to make some moves this offseason, which could see them move on from either Giddey or White. Advertisement Of course, there have already been reports of the Bulls looking to trade Vucevic this summer, whom has been linked to the Warriors, and now another trade target for Golden State may also be on the move. Nell Redmond-Imagn Images In a perfect world for the Warriors, they could look to make a move with the Bulls to land both Vucevic and White from them this summer, though it would drain them of their trade assets. Despite this, adding just one of Chicago's trade pieces could go a long way, especially in White who would also become a key part of Golden State's future due to his age. While that may be the case, the Bulls have held off on making trades in the past, look at how long it took them to move both DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, but that may change this summer as they continue their rebuild. Cowboys Not 'One-Man Show' Under Brian Schottenheimer
Cowboys Not 'One-Man Show' Under Brian Schottenheimer originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer won't be a "my way or the highway" type of coach. Instead, it will be a different way of doing things at The Star under his guidance. Advertisement While yes, the buck starts and stops with Schotty, that doesn't mean it will be all his ideas that get used. Granted, the majority of them will be, but the first-time head coach knows the power of opening up his ears and listening to the thoughts and ideas of everyone in the building. It doesn't matter which side of the ball it is; Schotty has made it clear that he isn't ruling The Star with an iron fist. "I'll listen to anybody, this is not just a one-man show," Schottenheimer said. "Having been here for a couple years helps, as we put it together, the players have feedback, and again they're the ones that bring it to life. When you talk about the things we'll implement, whether it's cuts, splits, or shifts, motions, those are kind of philosophical beliefs, things I like and believe in, and so we'll probably do them. "At the end of the day, I'm always going to listen to a player's opinion, I might not do it, but I'm going to listen. I'm gonna always take everybody's input and at the end of the day make the decisions based on what's best for helping us win a Super Bowl." Brian Schottenheimer And DakBy Tony Fisher Player input is huge, and we know that with veterans at key positions, the Cowboys will look to lean on what they like and what they don't. Advertisement Yes, Schottenheimer will have the final say, but players just want to be heard. Not shut down or shut out of a conversation, especially when it is their careers, reputations, and livelihoods on the line every week. Things have gotten off to a solid start for Schottenheimer in his first offseason as a head coach, and yes, we know you can take all of this with a grain of salt, but the more we listen, the more we like it. Will Schotty's collective thought translate to wins? That's unknown, but players feel comfortable when they are heard, and it is clear that Schottenheimer has just as much input as the players. And that, my friends, is one way to get everyone pulling in the same direction, which right now, the Cowboys appear to be doing.
