A gala event to announce the winners
The winners of the World Food Gift Challenge 2025 were announced at an award ceremony held in the presence of local and international guests from awarded and candidate regions, who gathered in Sicily to celebrate the 29th World Regions of Gastronomy Platform meeting (5-9 May).
On behalf of the jury, Dr. Edith M. Szivas claimed that: 'The jury had a very intense debate to make the selection of the best products. We based our decision on the assumption that a food gift should represent a destination and work as an ambassador. It should transport the person to the destination with all senses. The visual aspect is very important, as are the materials, smells, sounds, textures, and of course the flavours. Moreover, the whole process should be considered, including suitability for travel. However, the winning option is always the gift that brings joy to both the receiver and the buyer.'
IGCAT President, Dr. Diane Dodd noted that the Award aims to raise appreciation for local artisanal producers because they are the ones safeguarding our regions' intangible heritage and need to be valued for the exceptional work they do.
Mr. Salvatore Barbagallo, Regional Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries, delivered opening remarks thanking the producers from Sicily: 'This title is a source of pride for all Sicilians. It offers a powerful opportunity to showcase the richness and diversity of our island – its traditions, landscapes, and flavours – to Europe and the world. Sicily is vast and varied, and this award allows us to reveal its many hidden treasures'.
The ceremony also served as an occasion for IGCAT to formally thank the key institutional partners whose support was essential to securing and implementing the European Region of Gastronomy 2025 title for Sicily. Mr. Barbagallo; Fulvio Bellomo, Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries; and Luca Sammartino, Regional Deputy, were all publicly acknowledged for their leadership and commitment in ensuring the broader success of the project.
IGCAT also expressed deep appreciation to the local stakeholders who have actively contributed to advancing the region's gastronomic vision: Massimo Todaro, Antonino Scivoletto, Antonino Scarpato, Pietro Ambra, Alessandra Gentile and Prof. Vincenzo Russo. Their efforts were recognised as crucial to the promotion of regional gastronomy and the ursuit of cultural sustainability in Sicily.

Capri by private jet: A seamless journey to the island of elegance

Capri is not a place you stumble upon. It is a destination you seek with intention. When you choose to travel by private jet, you honor that intention from the very beginning. Capri is not simply a destination. It is an atmosphere, a mood, a world unto itself. Draped in myth and Mediterranean sunlight, the island has captivated emperors, artists, and modern tastemakers for generations. With its dramatic cliffs, azure grottos, and the understated glamour that flows through every piazza and villa, Capri is the kind of place that asks for your full attention. And for high-net-worth travelers, that begins with how you arrive. There is no airport on Capri. Commercial flights do not land here. The island's charm is partly owed to its isolation, which has preserved its exclusivity over the years. The typical route involves flying into Naples or Rome, followed by a car journey and a ferry crossing. For those seeking a more refined and time-efficient alternative, private jet charter offers a much more elegant solution. Private jets can land at Naples International Airport or Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport, both of which are within reach of Capri's coastline. From there, Platinum Jets coordinates a seamless onward transfer whether by private yacht, high-speed tender, or helicopter directly to the island. This level of care turns a fragmented journey into a curated experience. As a trusted private jet charter broker, Platinum Jets offers access to a global fleet of aircraft suited for every type of traveler. Whether you are flying in from London, Zurich, or New York, they can arrange the ideal aircraft and routing to suit your schedule. Their Instant Quote feature allows you to explore options and pricing in real time, ensuring your itinerary is organized with speed and clarity. The moment you leave the airport behind, the transition begins. You glide across the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the distance, or soar above the Amalfi Coast by helicopter. Either way, the stress of traditional travel disappears. Your arrival in Capri feels cinematic because it is. Once on the island, the experience only deepens. Mornings might begin with an espresso in the Piazzetta, followed by a private boat tour to the Blue Grotto or a leisurely afternoon shopping in boutiques tucked along Via Camerelle. Capri's luxury lies not in excess, but in its ability to offer beauty and stillness in equal measure. Evenings bring quiet glamour, whether at a family-run trattoria in Anacapri or a sea-view terrace at a five-star hotel. With Platinum Jets handling the logistics, your focus remains on what matters. Their service extends beyond the aircraft, including ground transportation, multilingual concierge support, and custom inflight experiences. For travelers accustomed to seamless luxury, this level of planning is not a perk. It is an expectation. Capri is not a place you stumble upon. It is a destination you seek with intention. When you choose to travel by private jet, you honor that intention from the very beginning. And with Platinum Jets as your private jet charter broker, every detail of the journey reflects the beauty of where you are going.

Aman Rosa Alpina reopens July 2025 in Italy's Dolomites, blending heritage, luxury, wellness, and exclusive alpine experiences for discerning travelers. Resting in the picturesque village of San Cassiano in Italy's UNESCO-protected Dolomites, the historic mountain retreat of Rosa Alpina will soon emerge anew, reimagined as a fully-fledged Aman sanctuary. Known for creating hotels and resorts that are sensitive and authentic to geography, design and cultural heritage – every Aman experience gently unfolds with simplicity and elegance providing an immediate sense of belonging. In anticipation of a 24 July opening, the pioneering ultra-luxury hospitality and lifestyle brand announce that reservations for Aman Rosa Alpina are now open, welcoming guests for the highly anticipated summer season and forthcoming winter season. Following an extensive refurbishment penned by internationally acclaimed architect and long-standing Aman collaborator, Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, Aman Rosa Alpina has been meticulously re-envisioned to future-proof its iconic status. Celebrating the enduring legacy of the Pizzinini family while exemplifying Aman's DNA of privacy, serenity and unparalleled service, the design balances heritage with contemporary appeal, while speaking to a connection with the destination. Through considered use of timber, black metal accents and natural stone the hotel's alpine spirit has been preserved, while a reimagined double-height arrival space anchored by a bespoke bar (inspired by Rosa Alpina's original piano bar) creates a new, lofty sanctuary flanked by the surrounding peaks. The transformation also includes a complete remodelling of all guestrooms and suites, the introduction of two new 150-square-metre Aman Suites and reconfiguration of the 280-square-metre Chalet Zeno, now offering two larger suites as a private retreat for up to four guests. Honouring its culinary heritage, Aman Rosa Alpina will debut a range of new dining and socialising concepts on opening including an Italian grill, an all-day lounge for afternoon tea and cocktails, and a dedicated breakfast room complete with live cooking stations. In addition, there will be a separate lounge for evening indulgence with premium cigars accompanied by aged spirits. For those seeking a more private experience, expert-led tastings uncovering Italy's culinary and wine culture will take place in a private wine library. For the upcoming winter season, Aman Rosa Alpina will introduce an additional restaurant, serving Japanese cuisine, with more details to follow. With a newly built Aman Spa, the brand's distinct wellness philosophy is introduced to this unique mountain setting. Three swimming pools (two indoor and one outdoor), a Jacuzzi and a thoughtfully curated treatment menu, complete with signature therapies which draw on the Dolomites' restorative powers, are set to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. Aman Rosa Alpina will also introduce a range of expanded amenities, including dedicated games rooms for children, teens and adults alongside three private cinemas. Elsewhere, the Ski Lounge features heated boot racks and offers curated equipment rental, ensuring a seamless transition between indoors and out. Speaking about the forthcoming opening Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO, Aman Group, said, 'The reimagining of Rosa Alpina as Aman Rosa Alpina marks a meaningful chapter for our brand. I first discovered this extraordinary property as a guest many years ago and developed a long-standing friendship with the Pizzinini family. What began as admiration quickly turned into a shared dream – to preserve and elevate the spirit of this unique place for future generations of Aman guests. The decision to partner and invest in the hotel was not only inspired by its unmatched location in the heart of the Dolomites, but to create a sanctuary that reflects both the culture of the region and the essence of Aman, through intuitive service, ultimate privacy and exclusive experiences.' It follows that with Aman's deep-rooted philosophy of connecting with the location, Aman Rosa Alpina will serve as an experiential gateway to the Dolomites' year-round wonders through privileged access to over 1,200 kilometres of slopes in winter and endless outdoor adventures—from hiking and biking to climbing – during the warmer months. Exclusive to the property, is the Pizzinini family's two private mountain cabins which will offer wood-fired lunch prepared by a private chef – the perfect finale to a guided hike. Elsewhere, families will also be well catered for with a specially designed activity centre offering immersive experiences for multi-generations. As Aman Rosa Alpina begins this new chapter, the Pizzinini family – headed by Hugo and Ursula – remains at the helm. Speaking about the evolution of the property, they said 'Τhe transition of the hotel into Aman Rosa Alpina marks an important and considered step forward. Partnering with Aman allows us to honour the legacy of our family's ownership and three generations of hospitality, while joining a brand renowned for its uncompromising attention to detail and deep reverence for place. Our commitment remains steadfast: Aman Rosa Alpina will continue to embody the spirit of the region, with the authenticity and excellence our guests have come to expect. As we embrace this exciting era, we look forward to welcoming new guests and reconnecting with those who have been part of our story for generations.'

Etihad Airways strengthens Italy

Etihad boosts Italy-Abu Dhabi routes, increasing flights, premium seats, and partnerships, supporting Abu Dhabi's tourism growth and cultural ties. ABU DHABI, UAE – Etihad Airways is reporting significant growth in travel demand between Italy and Abu Dhabi. The uplift is supporting Abu Dhabi's tourism ambitions and reinforcing broader commercial and cultural links between Italy and the UAE. Jurriaan Stelder, SVP Network, Alliances and Industry Affairs, Etihad Airways, said: 'The consistent growth we're seeing from the Italian market highlights Abu Dhabi's appeal as both a destination and global hub. Italian travellers are responding well to our offering, with steady demand across both leisure and business segments. This connectivity is strengthening tourism and supporting deeper ties across trade, culture and investment.' Italy has emerged as one of Etihad's fastest-growing European markets, with travel between Italy and Abu Dhabi increasing by 76% compared to 2023. This reflects the growing appeal of the UAE capital as a destination for Italian visitors. This sustained demand has prompted Etihad to increase frequencies to triple-daily flights between Milan Malpensa Airport and Abu Dhabi, and double-daily flights from Rome Fiumicino Airport, providing Italian travellers with convenient options to visit Abu Dhabi. The third daily frequency on Milan will be operated by Etihad's new Airbus A321LR, offering a premium experience that includes a dedicated First class cabin, fully lie-flat Business seats, high-speed Wi-Fi, and an enhanced onboard dining service. This aircraft brings Etihad's signature long-haul comfort to short- and medium haul travel, further elevating the travel experience for Italian guests. From November, Etihad will be offering more than 10,000 weekly seats between Italy and Abu Dhabi per direction, representing an 80% capacity increase compared to November 2023. The number of premium seats available will double to more than 1,000 per week, responding to increased demand in this segment. The airline continues to strengthen its presence in Italy through strategic partnerships. Through our partners ITA Airways and Trenitalia, travellers can travel from 14 domestic airports and 31 railway stations across Italy to connect to Etihad's flights from Rome and Milan. This builds on the successful codeshare partnership with ITA Airways which was established in December 2021, enabling enhanced connectivity between the UAE and Italy. Italian travellers are embracing Etihad's Abu Dhabi Stopover programme, which offers complimentary hotel stays for up to two nights, allowing visitors to experience Abu Dhabi's cultural attractions, pristine beaches, and world-class entertainment venues. Stopover bookings from the Italian market have grown by 92% since 2024. As demand from the Italian market continues to grow, Etihad is positioned to accommodate increasing passenger numbers with its current schedule. 'The solid performance of our Italy routes reflects Abu Dhabi's position as both a destination for Italian travellers and a convenient global hub,' said Stelder. 'This growth supports tourism while building long-term value through deeper ties with one of our most important European markets.'
