India score thrilling win as Iconic cricket venue stages
Mixed Disability International match
for first time
LONDON: India's Mixed Disability Team held its nerve and sealed a thrilling two-wicket win over England in the last over at Lord's in the third T20I of their ground-breaking Mixed Disability Vitality seven-match IT20 series at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
The occasion was historic as it was the first-ever international Disability match at the 'Home of Cricket.' 'When I started work in disability cricket, I never expected that this day would come, when the historic Lord's Cricket Ground stages an international Mixed Disability match. It's a huge day for Disability cricket,' Ian Martin, the head of Disability Cricket in English Cricket Board (ECB) said, while giving an emotional speech at the Long Room post the match.

The date, venue and the result of the match all made for a tremendous coincidence- 42 years back, India, led by the legendary Kapil Dev, had clinched the 1983 World Cup on June 25 at Lord's in 1983. "We dedicate our team's historic win to Kapil Dev sir's team's 1983 World-Cup winning team," said India' Mixed Disability team captain Ravindra Sante. Both teams wore black armbands during the match to mourn the passing away of former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi on Monday in London.

June 25 is incidentally celebrated as the 'World Mixed Disability Day.' The fixture at Lord's formed part of the Cricket Disability Day, and was the biggest ever one-off showcase of disability cricket, as it was the first time that India and England's mixed Disability teams played at Lord's. Hosted by the MCC, ECB and Lord's Taverners, the game was the showpiece event of this series.
India's Mixed Disability team is now trailing 2-1 in the series after losing the first two matches at Taunton and Wormsley Cricket Club.
In a first, all the seven matches of the series are being streamed live on Sony Liv.
Led by a magnificent show with the ball by seamer Vivek Kumar (three for 16 in three overs) and left-arm spinner and captain Ravindra Sante (three for eight in four overs), India's Mixed Disability team restricted England to just 123 for nine in 20 overs after the hosts elected to bat first. A. Brown was the lone warrior for England with a brilliant half-century (77, 47b, 5x4, 5x6).
Brown added 35 for the ninth wicket with A Pyle (4 not out) off just 17 balls to help England cross the 100-run mark.
He took 18 off the last over bowled by spinner Tarun, smashing him for two sixes, to give the hosts' total some respectability after they had collapsed to 49 for seven in 12 overs.

Staving off a superb fightback by England with the ball, India scampered to the target in the final over, losing eight wickets. The hero of the chase was middle-order batter Sai Akash, who made 44.
There are four more matches left in the series, with the next game to be played on Friday (June 27) at Worcester.
Brief Scores: England's Mixed Disability team 123-8 in 20 overs (A Brown 77; Vivek Kumar 3-8, Ravindra Sante 3-8) lost to India's Mixed Disability team 124-8 in 19.1 overs (Sai Akash 44) by two wickets.

Cues from Birmingham nets: Uncertainty over Bumrah, Arshdeep vs captain Gill, batting coach sweats it out with tailenders

Team India during the net session in Birmingham. (Pic credit: Sahil Malhotra/ in Birmingham: The Indian cricket team had their first training session in Birmingham on Friday and the side sweated it out for over three hours on a very pleasant morning. The sun was out but wasn't harsh as the steady breeze kept the conditions comfortable for training. Shubman Gill & Co. reached the venue around 9:15 am local time and all players were in attendance for the first taste of Birmingham conditions. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. They did travel back with the side in the team bus but didn't make an appearance while the rest of their teammates were doing their share of batting and bowling. India Sweat it out at the Nets in Birmingham Ahead of the 2nd Test vs England Mohammed Siraj's outing was restricted only with the bat only as the seamer worked a lot on the skill with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. There were plenty of drills for leaving, ducking and playing deliveries and he spent close to 30 minutes before leaving the nets and joining his fellow seamers inside. IC Markets Mendaftar Undo It has now become the most trending keyword in the Indian camp and will be repeated often in the build-up to the second Test as there is no clarity yet on ace pacer Bumrah's participation in the fixture. It's a call which will be taken by the bowler, in consultation with the medical team, and could well open or shut doors for the few waiting in the wings. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh had long spells, both with bat and ball, and were closely watched by the support staff led by head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gill & Agarkar Strategise at the Nets | India's Batting Plan for 2nd Test vs England? Arshdeep has been spending a lot of time with the bowling coach Morne Morkel in the nets and the duo had worked overtime in Leeds to fine-tune left-arm seamer's run-up, back-foot landing and overall alignment. After almost every delivery, they exchange notes and remain constantly in each other's ears. From Leeds to Birmingham, it has been a similar story for Arshdeep in the nets as he continues to be chatty with Morkel and is always up for a battle with his Punjab teammate Gill in the nets. Gill turns to his old friend whenever he has to work on something specific and Arshdeep runs in full steam to test the right-hander in the nets. He maintains that intensity even during the long hit and is matched there by fellow seamer Akash Deep. If the Bumrah call is taken soon, one between Arshdeep and Akash will be drafted in the Playing XI as India would be in desperate need of a new ball bowler and the two have the required skill set to both control the shining red cherry, and make it talk. Still early days and a lot of time before the Test gets underway on July 2 but both seamers are hitting the right notes in the training and could make that decision very hard for the Indian team management. The answers to their will they, won't they lie in the outcome of Bumrah's will he or won't he? Akash in full flow can trouble the best in the business and Arshdeep could well be the surprise card up India's sleeve at the moment. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. China sacks coach Branko Ivankovic after failure to qualify for FIFA World Cup 2026

China's football association on Friday said it has sacked national coach Branko Ivankovic after the country failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The decision followed a series of setbacks in qualifying for China, which has only ever played once in a World Cup. China lost 1-0 to Indonesia in early June, a result that effectively dashed the national team's hopes of qualifying. It ultimately finished second-to-last in its Asian group, with seven defeats in 10 matches. 'As the Chinese men's national team failed to qualify for the play-off stage, the contract of the coach and his staff has been automatically terminated, in accordance with the stipulated terms,' the Chinese Football Association said in a statement Friday. ALSO READ | What is ailing the Chinese Super League? History, issues and the way forward 'Branko Ivankovic will no longer lead the national team,' it said, thanking the Croatian, who has coached Dinamo Zagreb and Iran, for his 'hard work'. The Serbian coach of the Chinese U-19 men's national team, Dejan Djurdjevic, has been appointed interim national coach, the CFA said. The Chinese team is ranked 94th in the world by FIFA, continuing a downward slide that began several years ago. The side has long been the target of ridicule by Chinese fans due to its poor results and the multiple corruption scandals plaguing the sport. President Xi Jinping has said he wanted China to win the World Cup one day, but the latest flop means it has only ever played there once, in 2002, when it failed to get a point or score a goal.
