This thriller about old money teens has just been adapted into the perfect summer TV series
E Lockhart's YA thriller We Were Liars (£6.99, was the cult novel of 2014. Now, the twisty tome has been adapted into a TV series by Amazon Prime. The eight-episode series is the latest addition to the canon of rich-people-behaving-badly TV. The series will join the ranks among HBO's The White Lotus and Netflix's recent Sirens, as well as now-perennial classics like Succession and Gossip Girl. Just like the book, it centres around 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair, who is the eldest grandchild in the wealthy Sinclair family. Spending her summers on a private island at the family holiday home, she suffers from chronic migraines and memory loss after a serious head injury a few years before. Part love story and part amnesia thriller, the series follows Cadence's inner circle – dubbed the liars – as they try to piece together what happened that fateful summer. The show stars Gossip Girl's Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' s Joseph Zada and Esther McGregor as her cousins Johnny and Mirren, and Shubham Maheshwari as her friend, Gat. Fans of the cult series The Vampire Diaries will also recognise Candice King, who stars as Bess Sinclair. Here's everything you need to know about We Were Liars on Amazon Prime, and where to read the bestselling novel on which it is based. How to watch We Were Liars All eight episodes of We Were Liars are now available on Amazon Prime Video, meaning you can binge the whole series this summer. If you're not already a member, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial. After that, a Prime membership costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year. Alternatively, you can subscribe to Prime Video alone for £5.99 per month. Where to read E. Lockhart's We Were Liars We Were Liars became an instant New York Times bestseller upon its release in 2014. A story of mystery and deception, Cadence Sinclair is grappling with a fractured memory two years on from a serious head injury. Back on her wealthy family's private island for summer, Cadence and her confidants – otherwise known as 'liars' – spend the season trying to recall the events. In doing so, family secrets are unearthed, the consequences of actions laid bare and relationships reach a boiling point.

MobLand's future revealed after mixed reviews and cliffhanger ending that left fans reeling
MobLand's future has been revealed after mixed reviews and a cliffhanger ending that left fans reeling. The gangster drama, directed by Guy Ritchie, premiered on Paramount+ in March and features an A-list cast including Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. MobLand delves into the story of two crime families engulfed in 'a battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives,' according to the synopsis. Since the first season aired, the series has attracted a whopping 26 million views. Now, it has been confirmed that MobLand will see a second season and Paramount boss Chris McCarthy shared the news. 'We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom,' he said. It comes after lead star Pierce's 'unwatchable' accent sparked fan backlash. An insider told The Sun: 'Viewers have been mocking his Irish accent — which is ironic given he was born in Ireland and lived there till he was four years old. 'But he's always had a cut-glass English delivery. Clearly making the shift back to an Irish accent was not as smooth as expected.' Despite his best efforts at a realistic portrayal, some viewers still expressed issues with Pierce's accent and posted on X: 'Started watching #Mobland yesterday, it's brilliant, but why they made Pierce Brosnan (an Irishman) put on this thick Irish accent is beyond me, makes him almost laughable.'; 'For someone who's #Irish. #piercebrosnan accent in @MobLand_PPlus is atrocious.'; 'Mobland is very good except for Pierce Brosnan's awful sounding Irish accent (and he's Irish!!). Helen Mirren sounds more Irish than he. Anyway, it's gutsy.'; 'Pierce Brosnan's accent almost makes MobLand unwatchable. Surely they made him do that? And why? The bloke is Irish for f*** sake!' However, some defended Pierce and the series and commented: 'An authentic Irish accent isn't what it used to be but then again Ireland isn't what it used to be. 'Pierce Brosnan is superb in Mobland. I've no problems with his accent or acting. Doubt over a second season has nothing to do with his performance.' The season one finale caused a stir amongst fans too when it saw Harry (Tom Hardy) be stabbed by his wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt) and ended on a cliffhanger. It wasn't revealed to viewers whether he had survived or not and some felt it would be shared in a second season. According to The Sun, one fan posted: 'I saw a post about the ending being bad and Harry getting stabbed being a way for Tom Hardy to leave, but I feel like what followed after the stabbing was kind of a wink that nothing is going to happen to him. 'Harry is definitely the cherry on top of the cake and the showrunners are not oblivious to that. 'If the show has a season 2, Harry will be in there and he would've survived.' The series has received a respectable 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes and many viewers have shared positive verdicts. One fan posted on X: 'Just watched Episode 1 of #Mobland. I love everything Guy Ritchie, having Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan & Helen Mirren in the mix is such a deal sweetener. Another said: 'The show has so much potential, like I'm already sold with just one episode. Yes, yes, yes!' While someone else penned: 'Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Helen Mirren and loads more. Looks a good series.' A fourth wrote: 'Tom Hardy in a mob series, sign me up!' One viewer said: 'I just watched the first episode of #Mobland streaming on Paramount+ think it's going to be a great series.' Someone else added: '#Mobland is a series I can watch all day, every day.'

Benidorm reboot 'in crisis' as show's creator and lead star rocked by 'miserable' divorce after years of keeping marriage out of the spotlight
The Benidorm reboot is 'in crisis' after the show's creator and one of the lead stars were rocked by a 'miserable' divorce. Writer Derren Litten, 54, and Mateo Castellano star Jake Canuso, 55, had been together for years and lived in Benidorm, Spain. However, in 2022 they decided to go their separate ways and officially divorced last year. This could make the show's return to our screens, eight years after it was axed, a little bit complicated, according to insiders. A source told The Sun: 'Matteo is Benidorm, he's the character that everyone wants to see. 'He's been part of the Solana since the beginning so for him not to feature in any future reboot, well it just would not be the same without him. 'Jake created one of the show's most loved characters in Matteo, but with everything that's happened between him and Derren, it's not looking good.' Another added: 'Conversations have been had. 'The only way Jake will return is if ITV make him a huge offer, one that he could not possibly turn down. 'But obviously Derren is making negotiations difficult. He is the writer and creator and believes that he should make all the decisions. 'The fans would want to see Matteo, which ITV get. It's all become one big headache.' Taking to X to address their split last year, Derren said: 'I don't really talk about my personal life here but the reason I've been a bit scarce on the socials is for the last 18 months I've been going through a pretty miserable divorce. 'So I'm obviously poor now. And you thought we couldn't have more in common then we already do?!' MailOnline contacted Jake's rep for comment. Derren (pictured) said on X last year: 'I don't really talk about my personal life here but the reason I've been a bit scarce on the socials is for the last 18 months I've been going through a pretty miserable divorce' Jake played senior barman Mateo Castellanos at the hotel between 2007 and 2018. Benidorm aired 74 episodes across 10 series on ITV between 2007 and 2018. Fans were over the moon when a potential reboot hit headlines back in April. Just two months after its cancellation was confirmed, the show won best comedy at TV Choice Awards - with its creator Derren calling out the decision in his acceptance speech at the time. But fans may not have to wait too long for their Benidorm fix, as The Sun reported ITV bosses were in talks to reboot the show. A TV insider told the publication: 'Benidorm was adored by millions when it was suddenly cancelled. Fans will be thrilled to hear ITV wants to bring it back. 'An 11th series hasn't been commissioned yet, but there's major excitement building as early talks begin. The hilarious sitcom began in 2007 but came to an end in May 2018, and fans have been begging for more ever since 'Producers have started to reach out to the show's stars and are hopefully a decision can be made later this year.' Fans were ecstatic as the news circulated online, writing: 'Sincerely hope this is true!! Dearly missed show!'; 'Feel like I'm dreaming. Really hope they make this happen,'; 'Omg yay I hope they all come back!!'; 'Ur 5 days late for April fools... or its actually real?!?! Finally ITV bringing back a INCREDIBLE Show,'; 'Omg! I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement! This is the best news ever! I really hope the Garveys come back!' 'I hope so cause that would be the best birthday present every.' The ITV Brits abroad sitcom - which followed a group of holidaymakers in the Spanish resort and their hilarious escapades - came to an end in May 2018 after 11 years, and fans have been begging for more ever since. In 2023, show creator Derren teased a return of the beloved series as he announced that he was returning back to writing for 'both television and theatre'. He said: 'I have had clear, recent indications that certain TV channels are interested in my decision and I hope you will be watching the fruits of my labour in time to come.' Then, last month he sparked hope of its comeback once again when a fan asked on X: '@DerrenLitten @ITV Another series of Benidorm on the cards?' and he cryptically replied: 'Who knows...' Announcing the news on social media that it had been axed in 2018, Derren said: 'Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm! 'I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It's difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching!' Actor Shane Richie waded into the debate, admitting he has disappointed by the decision to axe Benidorm after 11-years. Sharing a GIF with fans, he wrote: 'Sunday is a day of rest I refuse to get angry... inhale, exhale Sammy, just breath you big lump of beautiful gorgeousness... F**k it !!!! Nooooooooooo!' Derren had initially dismissed reports that Benidorm was being taken off air after its 10th series. Posting on Twitter, he wrote: "Don't make me f**king laugh! (I enjoyed that story after series 6. And 7 and 8 and 9...) (sic)' He later removed the message and retweeted a series of positive fan posts. A source told The Sun at the time: 'Benidorm' has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it's run its course. 'The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it's still on a high.
