Our Guide To The Best Gas Range Ovens In Canada In 2025 (And Where To Get Them)

CTV Newsa day ago

Cooking at home is one of the many necessities of life, and the range in your kitchen is one of the key things you'll need to make that an easy job. No one's cooking over campfires anymore, right? If you're a fan of gas appliances in general, your next kitchen replacement can easily fit your preferences if you choose a gas range oven.
Gas range ovens offer several benefits over electric alternatives, including faster heat-up times, improved energy efficiency, more precise temperature control, and greater versatility in terms of their compatibility with different cookware types. They can even help you save money on utilities, time on cleanup, and keep you fed during a power outage. Don't they sound perfect?
If a gas range oven is your ideal, but you're not sure how to choose the right one, we're here to help. Gas range ovens will vary in a number of features, including price, overall size, single vs. dual oven, number of burners, locations of controls, and much more. Every feature will affect how well it suits your needs, so it's a good idea to think about all of them.
This comprehensive guide will investigate the best gas range ovens in Canada and outline the criteria you should consider while making your purchase decision. Let's dive right into our top five products. The Best Gas Range Ovens Right Now Our Top Single Oven Pick for The Best Gas Range Oven GE PCGS930YPFS Profile 30" 5.6 Cu. Ft. True Convection 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Air Fry Range Review What We Think of the GE PCGS930YPFS Profile 30" 5.6 Cu. Ft. True Convection 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Air Fry Range
The GE PCGS930YPFS Profile 30" 5.6 Cu. Ft. True Convection 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Air Fry Range has a ton of great features working in your favour. One of the things we appreciate most is the controls location—all of the knobs, buttons, and the display screen are located at the front. You won't have to reach over hot items to control your range. What's even better is the Wi-Fi connectivity—say hello to remote operation! You can't beat that convenience.
We're also really pleased that this option offers an air fry cooking mode. If you love the taste of fried foods (who doesn't?) and want to skip the negative health effects of deep frying, this oven was made for you. Since it's also incredibly easy to keep clean with the steam-dependent self-cleaning feature, the gas range oven will be the only one working hard.
Luckily, we don't have any serious quality or performance issues to discuss with this one. The price tag might be a deterrent for some, though. It's more than twice the cost of the most affordable alternatives. The capacity (five burners and 5.6 cu. ft of oven space) might not be enough for every family, either.
All in all, the GE PCGS930YPFS Profile 30" 5.6 Cu. Ft. True Convection 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Air Fry Range will be an amazing addition to just about every kitchen. No matter where your priorities lie, we bet this one can give you what you're looking for. Performance: 5/5

We like so many things about the Café CC2S900P4MW2 30" 5.7 Cu. Ft. True Convection 6-Burner Slide-In Gas Range. One of its best features (in our opinion, at least) is the voice-assistant compatibility. You can control your oven from anywhere in your house! How cool is that? Its unique matte white finish and customizable hardware kit guarantee it'll look great with every décor scheme.
Its cooking capacity is another thing to admire. With six burners (including a built-in griddle!) and 5.7 cu. ft of oven space, this range is perfect for daily meals for large families, holiday gatherings, and meal prep in bulk. As a dual-fuel range, you'll get the benefits of a gas stovetop for faster cooking and more precise temperatures, as well as ultra-even heating inside the electric oven. Brilliant.
The main downside of choosing this option is the price tag. As one of the most expensive single-oven gas range ovens out there, it won't fit everyone's budget. While we think it's amazing enough to be worth the price, we totally understand if you'd prefer to keep looking for your perfect cooking companion.

We're excited to share the GE JCGBS66SEKSS 30" 5.0 Cu. Ft. 5-Burner Freestanding Gas Range with you. As one of the most affordable single oven options right now, it was an easy choice for our budget pick, but it has a lot more to offer than that. It's also one of the easiest to keep clean, and that's because of the 30-minute steam clean feature and the seamless cooktop—spills and crumbs won't be able to escape you, and the oven takes care of itself!
You'll also love the style of the center burner. It takes up the entire middle section of the stovetop so you can easily cook with griddles or oversized pans without interfering with other burners. Doesn't that sound great? The electric ignition is really reliable, too, and will feel like a major upgrade if you've been using an older gas range with a pilot light.
There are a couple of reasons you might feel this range isn't ideal for your kitchen. First, it's on the smaller end with a 5 cu. ft oven and only five burners, so it doesn't offer the same cooking capacity as larger options. Its oven controls and display are also located at the back instead of the front, so you might choose to look for a range with all front controls if reaching over burners sounds inconvenient to you.
All in all, the GE JCGBS66SEKSS 30" 5.0 Cu. Ft. 5-Burner Freestanding Gas Range is one of our favourites for shoppers on a budget. Whether you're looking for electric ignition, easy cleaning, or reliable cooking performance, this is a great option. Performance: 5/5

Reviewers have a good opinion of the GE JCGBS66SEKSS 30" 5.0 Cu. Ft. 5-Burner Freestanding Gas Range. The 30-minute self-cleaning feature is incredibly useful for keeping the oven clean, and they don't need to spend much time on the stovetop, either. The burners offer enough space for multiple pots/pans, and the center burner is perfect for griddles. They all loved the price, too. GE JCGBS66SEKSS 30" 5.0 Cu. Ft. 5-Burner Freestanding Gas Range Pros and Cons
Buy If… A self-cleaning steam clean feature sounds great

Warranty: 1 year Our Top Double Oven Pick Whirlpool WGG745S0FS 30" 6.0 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range Review What We Think of the Whirlpool WGG745S0FS 30" 6.0 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range
We are big fans of the Whirlpool WGG745S0FS 30" 6.0 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range, and we're going to share the reasons why right now. The oven's versatility is one of our favourite things about it. With extra programs like Rapid Preheat and Frozen Bake, you can tailor your cooking time and oven performance to the needs of each dish. It's very reliable with even heating in the oven, too.
The stovetop also has great things to offer. An extra-large middle burner gives space for things like griddles and oversized cookware, and a high-powered 1600 W burner dramatically cuts down on boil times and helps you sear meat. No matter what you're cooking on the stovetop, there's a burner that will be right for the job.
The higher-than-average price of this option is one of only two potential downsides we want to bring to your attention. If you're shopping on a tight budget, it might be a bit out of reach. The other concern you might have is with oven space. While it is larger than most single oven gas ranges, it's on the smaller side for double oven styles. If you're looking to maximize your cooking capacity, you might want to browse other options.
Overall, the Whirlpool WGG745S0FS 30" 6.0 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range has a lot to offer, no matter how much cooking you do. With great oven functions, an easy-to-clean stovetop, and a balanced price, it's got everything you're looking for. Performance: 5/5

Warranty: 1 year Our Upgrade Double Oven Pick Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range Review What We Think of the Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range
There are a lot of features to admire about the Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range. Its self-cleaning function is one of our favourites—it uses steam to lift off stubborn stains and food debris, so it only requires a simple wipe down. No more scrubbing or caustic oven cleaners! All of the controls are located on the front panel, too, so you'll never have to reach over hot dishes to make adjustments.
This gas range oven is also perfect for you if you like to serve large gatherings. With lots of oven space and six burners, you'll be able to make every dish at once. The stovetop even has a reversible grill/griddle plate to make sure it works for every meal. You'll get to enjoy smart features with this one, too. Remote operation through voice assistants or the companion app is a pretty convenient addition.
The extremely high price tag on this one is the main reason it won't be a great choice for everybody. If you're shopping on any kind of a budget, you might have to pass this one over. Also, since this is a dual-fuel range, it only uses gas for the stovetop (the ovens are electric). If you'd prefer an all-gas range, you'll need to look elsewhere.
All in all, the Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range is a wonderful appliance that will fit right in no matter what your cooking routine looks like. It's versatile, convenient, and easy to keep clean. Isn't that the trifecta we're all looking for? Performance: 5/5

Reviewers are very impressed by the Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range. The cooking capacity is essential, and each oven does a great job of isolating the cooking conditions. The smart features add a lot of convenience, and the self-cleaning feature is a huge hit. They'd all choose this one again. Café CC2S950P2MS1 30" Self-Clean True Convection Double Oven Slide-In Gas Range Pros and Cons

Warranty: 1 year Our Budget Double Oven Pick GE JCGSS86SPSS 30" 6.7 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range Review What We Think of the GE JCGSS86SPSS 30" 6.7 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range
We really like the GE JCGSS86SPSS 30" 6.7 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range. Of course, the price is one of our favourite things about it, because it's quite a bit less expensive than the average double oven gas range. The position of the front controls also makes us really happy. Instead of sticking straight out of the stove's front face, they're angled up toward the ceiling so you can't bump them or lean on them accidentally.
The self-cleaning mode is another feature to love. Since it cleans with steam, there are no chemicals, unpleasant odours, or tons of time involved. You'll also appreciate the cooking versatility on this one. With a middle burner for oddly shaped cookware and large griddles, two ovens, and a broil function, it's ideal for every type of meal you can dream up.
While we don't have any performance or quality issues to mention, there are a couple of usability things that you might not love. First, this range only has five burners, so if you're accustomed to six, you might not love it. Second, this range doesn't come with any smart features like voice assistant compatibility or remote operation. Hopefully, that won't be a dealbreaker.
Overall, the GE JCGSS86SPSS 30" 6.7 Cu. Ft. Double Oven 5-Burner Slide-In Gas Range is our top recommendation for anyone who is shopping on a budget and keen on a double oven style. It's not the fanciest gas range out there, but it sure gets the job done. Performance: 5/5

Every 'top pick' featured in our guides has earned its spot through careful analysis, not sponsorship. How to Properly Choose Your Gas Range Oven Price
The price of a gas range oven can vary anywhere between $850 and $4,500. Generally, more expensive gas ranges will have two ovens instead of one, at least one smart feature, a sixth burner, and possibly even extra functions like air frying. Single vs. Dual Oven
There are two main styles of gas range ovens: single ovens and dual ovens. Single oven styles are more affordable but don't offer as much cooking space. Dual oven styles will be more expensive, but they'll also let you cook two different dishes at different temperatures at the same time. Total Oven Capacity
Total oven capacity for a gas range oven typically falls between 5 and 7 cubic feet. The more space you have, the better you'll be able to cook multiple dishes at once, but larger options also take longer to heat and require more power. Location of Controls
Gas range ovens can have two locations for controls: the back panel and the front panel. The knobs for burners are always at the front, but the display and oven buttons can be at the front of back. It's up to you which location you prefer.
Disclaimer: The prices displayed are accurate at the time of publication. We'll do our best to keep them as up-to-date as possible, but you may see slight changes.

Retired soldier gets his medals back after accidental donation

It started with spring cleaning. Kelly and Margaret Grant, both retired from the military, filled some boxes with things they no longer needed and took them to local charities. They included suit jackets that were hanging in the closet. What the couple didn't realize was that Kelly Grant's military medals were still pinned to one of those jackets. Seven medals, earned over 30 years from tours in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Cyprus and Yugoslavia, had been accidently donated. "I was hoping they were in the house, so we were looking and looking and searching, and we couldn't find them anywhere," said Grant, who retired as a master warrant officer. WATCH | 'A series of unfortunate events that led to a really good outcome': The search for 7 missing medals from a long military career 3 hours ago Duration 4:00 Originally from Saint John, Grant was first posted in Calgary, then Winnipeg and Victoria, before his final posting at Base Gagetown, where he retired as master warrant officer. Among the lost medals was his prized Member of the Order of Military Merit. The Canadian Armed Forces criteria for the medal reads: "Appointment to the rank of Member of the Order of Military Merit recognizes outstanding meritorious service and demonstrated leadership in duties of great responsibility." At the end of last year, only 3,768 of those medals had been issued since the honour was created in 1972, according to the Armed Forces website. "Remembrance Day came and went, and I had to go to the service without my medals," Grant said. "It was very different standing with all your peers when they're displaying their medals, and I didn't have mine to display." Just looking at his medals brought him pride. Losing them weighed on him. "It was very saddening," he said. After Remembrance Day, he said, he accepted that his medals were gone. Not wanting to go through another ceremony without them, Grant commissioned a set of replicas. Those cost $500. A year later, Grant was still bothered by his medals' disappearance. He and his wife concluded they must have accidentally gone to one of several organizations that received their donations of clothing and furniture. Earlier this month, Grant posted on Facebook marketplace, writing: "I'm sad to say that my wife and I may have donated my military medals [along] with some clothing by accident. If anyone has found them can you contact me please, ty." Included was a photo of the medals he took from a framed portrait of him and his wife posing in their uniforms. "I had several people reach out to me saying they may have seen my medals at the Hospice House," Grant said. Hospice House is a 10-bed residential facility providing end-of-life care for terminally ill residents in downtown Fredericton. The charity operates on some provincial funding, and a lot of donations, including from sales of donated items. In this case, those included the accidently donated medals. "Someone had bought them," Grant said. On a Sunday afternoon, Terry McCormack, a collector of military memorabilia, received a message from a friend directing him to Grant's plea for his missing medals. "Within about 15 minutes I had contacted him," said McCormack, a former reservist of 35 years and Hospice House volunteer. "I said, 'Look, I've got your medals. Let's meet.'" Within half an hour, the two me were at Tim Hortons. "I was shocked and happy," said Grant, who had confirmed the medals were his after he was sent a photo of them. McCormack said he was pleased to reunite the former soldier with his accolades. He did request Grant pay him the amount that he'd paid the charity for them. "They weren't free," Grant told CBC News. "He had a receipt for $600, and that's what it cost me to get my medals back." Grant was just happy the medals were in his possession again. "I'm ecstatic to have them back," he said. "I promised these to my granddaughter, and now it's nice to say that she's going to have them." Charity response On learning what Grant had been through with his missing medals, Cindy Sheppard, the CEO of Hospice House, said she contacted him to let him know the charity was sending him the amount he paid to regain his medals. "Once he told me the story, I certainly offered Kelly his $600 back, for purchasing his own medals back," said Sheppard, whose organization operates Hospice Boutique. "He shouldn't have to pay for the medals he earned through service." Sheppard and McCormack both told CBC News that when the medals were first donated, staff tried to double-check if it was an accident, but because the Grants' donation was made anonymously, they didn't know what to do. After holding them for a while to make sure no one was looking for them, Hospice House eventually sold them to McCormack. And back again But the exchanges don't end there. Grant said that after Sheppard called to send him the $600, he had a conversation with his wife. "That was very, very, sweet of her to do," Grant said. "Now, knowing what the Hospice House stands for ... we're donating that money back to Hospice House." "It's an all-around good story," Sheppard said. "A series of unfortunate events that led to a really good outcome." Sheppard said any future medals sent to Hospice House will be passed on to the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion to ensure nothing like this happens again.
