Moroccan activist jailed for «offensive» posts about Saudi Arabia
A court in the city of Khouribga sentenced, Monday, activist and member of the Justice and Spirituality Group (Al Adl Wal Ihsan), Mohamed Boustati, to one year in prison on charges of defamation. This verdict came after he posted comments on his Facebook account about the war in Gaza, which were deemed «offensive» to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, lawyer Mohamed Nouini explained that the trial was based on a complaint filed by Saudi intelligence services «regarding posts they considered offensive to Saudi institutions and symbols». He added that the posts under investigation involved «general political» criticisms of the stances of some Arab countries towards the war in Gaza and normalization with Israel, without providing details on the content of these posts.
The lawyer also noted that the defendant «denied some of the accusations and stated that his Facebook account had been hacked». Nevertheless, the court ruled that the posts in question amounted to «defamation».
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, members of the National Brigade arrested Mohamed Boustati at his workplace in the city of Settat, and he was transferred overnight to Khouribga. He was presented before the public prosecutor of the same city on Friday, February 28, 2025, and was prosecuted in custody.

'Morocco has a satisfactory number of official holidays during which work is suspended, with 17 days compared to 13 days in Egypt, 9 days in Algeria, and 15 days in Tunisia,' El Fallah Seghrouchni stated. These official holidays are governed by Decree No. 2.77.169 dated February 28, 1977, which established the framework for religious and national holidays in public administrations and institutions. Regarding religious holidays specifically, El Fallah Seghrouchni pointed out that Eid al-Adha celebrations in various Muslim countries range between one and three days, similar to Morocco's practice. Any potential revision of holiday regulations would require comprehensive stakeholder involvement, according to the minister. 'Studying the possibility of revising the decrees regulating official and religious holidays requires involving all public and private sector stakeholders to address the issue from various economic and social perspectives,' she explained. The minister also mentioned that Moroccan legislation provides for exceptional leave allowances. 'The Moroccan legislator has established, alongside the administrative leave system, exceptional leave or permission to be absent, granted to employees who provide family justifications or exceptional reasons, not exceeding ten days per year,' she elaborated. 'This system of leaves collectively aims to ensure decent working conditions for employees on one hand, and guarantee the continuity of public services on the other.' She further noted that Article 3 of Decree No. 2.05.916 issued in July 2005, which determines working days and hours in state and territorial administrations, allows for exceptional work stoppages by decision of the Head of Government. On several occasions, such as during Eid al-Fitr, work has been suspended exceptionally to facilitate citizen travel and reduce traffic congestion on various national road networks coinciding with these religious occasions. Rabat_ In an ongoing effort to silence anyone who dares to expose or document its genocide in Gaza, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have accused Palestinian Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal of being a Hamas fighter—an outright attempt to justify their plan to kill him. In a statement that effectively serves as a death threat, the IOF claimed Bassal, who has served in Civil Defence since 2008, has misused his role as a spokesperson by 'spreading false and unverified information to international media, falsely attributing war crimes to Israel, and presenting fabricated data.' The IOF then revealed their true intent by acknowledging that Bassal's disclosures reached the global media and caused 'a severe distortion of the reality on the ground,' undermining their narrative, delegitimizing him, and isolating him before executing their final step. Their 'evidence'? A list written in Arabic, which they claim is a 'Hamas membership list'—a fabrication that exposes their blatant disregard for truth and their willingness to manufacture whatever is necessary to legitimize further crimes. The IOF's recent statement not only targets Bassal but also aims to tarnish the entire Civil Defence in Gaza. Familiar with Israel's playbook of smear, isolate, and assassinate, the Civil Defence issued a firm response, condemning the accusations as incitement. 'We reject the inciting Israeli allegations against the Civil Defence and its official spokesperson, and we warn of their malicious intent,' declared the press release. The organization also revealed that it has received numerous messages from international media outlets, stating that Israel has contacted them directly, urging rejection of the Civil Defence's narrative. 'We strongly warn against falling for the dangerous smear campaign orchestrated by the Israeli occupation army, which seeks to bring our institution and its official spokesperson under a calculated smear campaign, the consequences of which we deeply fear.' The Civil Defence called for urgent intervention from the International Civil Defence Organisation, human rights bodies, and press freedom advocates to prevent this campaign of lies from succeeding. As Israel's campaign of genocide in Gaza intensifies, every Palestinian with a phone has become a journalist, exposing Israel's true face to the world as a genocidal, apartheid state that has long maintained a façade of being 'the only democracy in the Middle East' while systematically erasing Palestinian existence. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Israel has so far killed at least 184 journalists in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon since October 2023—the deadliest period for journalists since records began in 1992. Their absence is painfully felt across social media and news outlets, as many Palestinians are too starved, injured, or silenced to document their own annihilation amid Israel's unchecked brutality.
