Leading the current spike is Kerala, with 110 fresh infections, pushing its active caseload to 2,055, a majority of the country's total. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 17 new infections, taking its active cases to 714.
Gujarat is also seeing a major spike in active Covid cases, with 77 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections recorded to 1,358.
Despite the emergence of new subvariants, the JN.1 strain remains the most dominant, accounting for a staggering 53% of all positive cases across the country.
With the virus subtly shifting form and symptoms evolving, health authorities are urging the public to maintain precautionary measures, including hygiene, mask use in crowded places, and timely testing. Although hospitalisation remains low, experts warn that complacency could reverse progress.

Suspected Covid case detected in Dhanbad
Dhanbad: A suspected Covid case has been detected in the city, prompting swift action from the district health authorities. The patient, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, was reported to have symptoms related to the virus. Ludh reports highest 1-day Covid cases so far this yr
Ludhiana: Seven more persons tested positive for Covid in Ludhiana Saturday, marking the highest single-day tally for the district this year. According to the health department's daily Covid bulletin, the seven persons who tested positive include three males and four females. Among them are males aged 19, 22, and 28 years, and females aged 13, 13, 55, and 56 years. As of Saturday, the total number of cases reported in Ludhiana is 38, of which 15 are active cases. Thirteen patients are in home isolation and two are in hospital, while 21 persons, who tested positive, have completed home quarantine. A health department officer said of the 42 samples they received on Saturday, seven returned positive. Of the seven, two are asymptomatic and five symptomatic cases, with four having mild symptoms and one moderate. Health department officials said the patients admitted to the hospital are aged 55 and 56 years. The children who tested positive for Covid are from the same family. Dr Ramandeep Kaur, civil surgeon (Ludhiana), issued an advisory in view of a slight uptick in Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country. "Recorded 57 active COVID-19 cases as of today", says Sikkim Health Minister GT Dhungel
Gangtok: Sikkim Health Minister GT Dhungel said on Saturday that the state has 57 active Covid-19 cases . He added that the health department is fully prepared, with doctors, nurses, and medical staff on alert and hospitals equipped with beds, medicines, and necessary equipment. Speaking to the reporters, GT Dhungel said, "We have recorded 57 active cases as of today from across the state. The entire department is well-prepared, and all doctors, nurses, and technicians have been put on alert. The rooms have been equipped with adequate beds, medicines, and other necessary equipment." Meanwhile, health authorities in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have reported a mild uptick in COVID-19 cases, though officials assert that the situation remains under control with no indication of widespread concern. In Rajasthan, Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, Director of the Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, said that the state is currently seeing "30 to 35 new COVID-19 cases every day", with one death recorded so far. "We are seeing 30-35 cases of COVID every day in the state. We have sufficient stock of medicines," he said. Dr Sharma added that the deceased patient also suffered from tuberculosis and that the state has adequate supplies of medicines and is closely monitoring the situation.
