Zelensky: Russia Has Deployed 50,000 Troops for Its New Offensive - Jordan News
Zelensky: Russia Has Deployed 50,000 Troops for Its New Offensive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia has massed 50,000 troops near the Sumy region in northern Ukraine, but added that Kyiv has taken measures to prevent Moscow from launching a large-scale attack there. اضافة اعلان This escalation comes as Russia appears to be preparing for a new offensive in Ukraine, while Kyiv awaits a formal proposal from Moscow laying out its conditions for moving forward with ceasefire talks. Sumy lies across the border from Russia's Kursk region, where Ukraine previously held a pocket of territory for several months before being forced to almost completely withdraw last month—though it maintains control of some areas there. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Zelensky said: "Their largest and strongest forces are currently on the Kursk front, aiming to push our forces out and prepare for offensive operations in the Sumy region." Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a desire to establish a 'buffer zone' along Russia's border with Ukraine. Zelensky said he believes Russia wants a buffer zone approximately 10 kilometers deep. Russia has recently taken control of at least four border villages in the region and has made slow gains over the past few weeks along the front line near the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka. However, Zelensky noted that Ukrainian forces pushed the Russians back by four kilometers in that area over the span of two days. He added that Turkey, the Vatican, and Switzerland are the most likely venues for future negotiations with Russia. Malta, along with several unnamed African nations, has also expressed interest in hosting the talks. It was previously reported that Moscow does not consider the Vatican a serious venue for negotiations. Zelensky confirmed he will attend the upcoming G7 summit after receiving an invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the group. He also said he will likely participate in the upcoming European Union summit. Speaking about Ukraine's domestic arms production, Zelensky said he is seeking $30 billion in funding to fully utilize the country's fast-growing defense manufacturing sector.

Erdogan Calls on Russia and Ukraine to Resume Dialogue - Jordan News
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday urged Russia and Ukraine not to "close the door" on dialogue, expressing hope for the resumption of talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul on Monday. اضافة اعلان Speaking to reporters upon his return from a visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday, Erdogan said, according to the Turkish presidency: "We are in contact with Russia and Ukraine... We tell them that the door should not be closed as long as it remains open." He added, "In every meeting, we remind our interlocutors not to miss this opportunity," considering that "putting out this large fire in our region is a humanitarian duty." On Wednesday, Ukraine expressed readiness to hold new talks in Turkey on Monday following direct negotiations held on May 16 between Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul. However, Ukraine requested that Moscow, which initiated the talks, present its conditions in advance to ensure the meeting yields results. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, traveled to Ukraine on Thursday, where he is scheduled to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky. Turkey, a NATO member, has managed to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Turkey supplied drones to Kyiv while refraining from joining Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.

FM, EU official discuss Gaza ceasefire, regional developments
Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks on Thursday with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, focusing on efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and end the humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged Strip. Safadi underscored the urgent need to reach an exchange agreement that would result in an immediate ceasefire, open all crossings to allow the delivery of sufficient and unhindered humanitarian aid to all parts of Gaza, and empower United Nations agencies to distribute the aid effectively. He stressed that halting the killing of civilians and the inhumane starvation policies pursued by the Israeli government must be an urgent international priority, and that global efforts should be unified to achieve this goal. Safadi said the ongoing brutal Israeli aggression and the systematic starvation tactics have crossed all moral and legal boundaries, violated international humanitarian law, and must be stopped through effective and immediate international pressure. He warned that Israel's illegal measures in the West Bank are driving the situation toward an explosion and undermining all prospects for achieving the two-state solution the only viable path to a just and lasting peace. He commended the European Union's efforts to exert real pressure on Israel, including its decision to review the EU-Israel Association Agreement, as well as steps taken by some EU countries to impose sanctions and support the two-state solution. Safadi emphasized the need for a resolute international response to the massacres committed in Gaza. He reiterated that the aggression on Gaza will not bring security to Israel, and that only a just peace embodied in the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on Palestinian national soil, living in peace and security alongside Israel can ensure stability for all in the region. Safadi and Kallas also discussed ongoing regional and international efforts to prepare for the international conference co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, to be held in New York next month. The conference aims to produce practical outcomes that advance a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution. On Syria, the two officials exchanged views on recent developments. Safadi welcomed the European Union's decision to lift sanctions on Syria, stressing the importance of supporting the Syrian government's reconstruction efforts based on principles that safeguard Syria's unity, sovereignty, and security, eliminate terrorism, and protect the rights of all Syrians. Both sides affirmed the strength of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union and pledged continued cooperation across all fields to support regional and global peace and stability.
