Ian Healy sledge backfires as Australia embarrassed by cricket minnows
Ian Healy's cutting criticism of Shamar Joseph has backfired spectacularly after the West Indies rolled Australia for just 180 in the first cricket Test in Bridgetown. The Aussie batters were embarrassed by the Windies (currently ranked World No.8) on Wednesday night, after Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat. A new-look top order of Sam Konstas, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis all failed, dismissed for 3, 3 and 5 respectively. With Marnus Labuschagne dropped and Steve Smith out with a finger injury, Konstas was recalled to open with Usman Khawaja, with Green and Inglis at 3 and 4. Konstas and Inglis were both dismissed by Joseph, who took 4-46 in a devastating display of bowling. Jayden Seales went one better with 5-60, but it was Joseph's stunning performance that had the cricket world talking. It came after Aussie legend Healy had launched a stunning rebuke of the 25-year-old, claiming he'd done absolutely nothing since the last time he destroyed Australia 17 months ago in Brisbane. Healy shot back at Joseph after he issued a challenge to Konstas. "OK Shamar, well you've delivered crap all year," Healy said on SEN radio on Tuesday. "So he better improve, that's what I'm saying. He's got real trouble. You're not Curtly Ambrose, champ." Joseph had told Konstas to "look out" and challenged him to play his famous reverse-ramp. "Well, that's up to him," he said. "I will do my part." On the opening day in Barbados, Konstas didn't have a chance to play his expensive game and only lasted 14 balls. Joseph then continued Green's tough start to life at No.3, the big man out for the same score as Konstas after struggling in the World Test Championship final. Joseph's masterclass came 17 months after he bowled the West Indies to a famous win over Australia at the Gabba in 2023, drawing the two-Test series 1-1. Joseph's heroics were part of the reason the current series has been expanded to three Tests. Smith's injury replacement Inglis was caught behind playing a woeful shot as he tried to counter-attack Seales, who went on to rip through the Aussie tail after tea. The dismissal of Inglis left the visitors reeling at 3-22 after 15.1 overs. Khawaja was dropped twice on his way to 47 before eventually being caught off an under-edge from Joseph. He put on an 89-run stand with Travis Head, who made 59 off 78 balls and was the only Aussie batter to show any real fight. But Head caught an outside edge from all-rounder Justin Greaves (1-26) only four deliveries after tea, and only some late hitting from Pat Cummins (28 off 18) saved Australia from even more embarrassment. Still, the total of 180 marked Australia's lowest total against the West Indies since 1995. Australia's batting display was described as "awful" and "pathetic", before the tourists claimed four early wickets in the Windies' batting innings. Thank you Ian Healy !! @Iheals — puneet sachdev (@puneetv22) June 25, 2025 Need Ian healy to keep talking down on Shamar Joseph pls. This guy is unbelievable when playing Australia — H 🎭 (@miasanH) June 25, 2025 Ian Healy might be smashing his tv, after watching Shamar Joseph's performance till now. @ahealy77 please check. — Shubham (@breathelfc) June 25, 2025 Yeah Ian Healy might have to sit this one out — Jordan Commissiong (@JCommiss) June 25, 2025 This is just plain awful. If things don't change, we're losing the Ashes at home without a doubt.#WIvAUS — Callum Binyon (@BinyonHawks) June 25, 2025 As per usual, another awful batting display 🤦♂️#WIvAUS #WIvsAUS — 🔁 (@Tutterdotcom) June 25, 2025 with AAP

England players driven by 'humbling' loss to Wallabies
Star utility back Elliot Daly says England were "humbled" by the Wallabies last year and is determined to ensure the British and Irish Lions don't suffer the same fate. The Lions, made up of the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, have been installed as hot favourites to defeat Australia in the upcoming three-Test series. The Wallabies have slipped to eighth in the world rankings and didn't even make it out of the group stage at the 2023 World Cup. But Australia have become a much more emboldened unit under master coach Joe Schmidt, their win over England at Twickenham last year evidence of that. An 84th-minute try to Max Jorgensen lifted the Wallabies to a famous 42-37 win in what proved to be the finest moment under Schmidt's leadership. MAX. JORGENSEN. 🔥#Wallabies #AutumnNationsSeries — Wallabies (@wallabies) November 9, 2024 Daly didn't play against the Wallabies on that fateful day at Twickenham, but he still remembers it well. "They humbled us, and watching that game was pretty tough," Daly said. "It was one where we had control of it and lost it, so it probably hurt a little bit more. "They showed the quality of a couple of their players in space and hopefully we can shut that down. "The way they are playing the game is exciting and they have got some dangerous players." The Lions begin their Australian tour with a match against the Western Force at Optus Stadium on Saturday night. And Lions players are already on notice after suffering a shock 28-24 loss to Argentina in Dublin last week. In the direct aftermath of that loss, Daly had a strong message for his teammates in the group huddle. "(There was) disappointment in the group," Daly said. "I just felt I wanted to say, 'Lads, this is our first game together, it wasn't perfect and there is stuff we can work on, but we need to use this as a stepping stone for when we get out to Australia and get on the front foot'. "On this tour, with a game every four days, we need to bounce back quickly and take the positives and go to the next game." Daly is on his third Lions tour and will line up against a familiar face on Saturday - Western Force star Kurtley Beale. Beale played with Daly at English club Wasps in 2016-17 and they formed a strong friendship. "If he didn't get injured in that semi-final against Leicester in 2017 I think we would have won the title," Daly said. "He came at a time when we were playing attacking rugby and he slotted in really well. "He is such a good lad to have around the group and is one guy you can always go for a beer with or a coffee and end up having a laugh."
